“You're gonna get a call tomorrow from the Chief,” Bobby informed him. “You're being reinstated to active duty. The brass didn't want the headache. They're afraid of the bad press.”
And, just like that, the nerves disappeared, replaced by something far lighter and giddier. “Well -” Buck let out a relieved laugh. “That – that's awesome.”
Except Bobby didn’t look relieved. “Yeah, maybe not. They gave me the option to transfer you.” Buck’s stomach dropped. “They understood how I might not want you back after everything you put us through,” Bobby added. And then – “I accepted her offer.”
