“Hi there. My name’s May,” she introduced herself, speaking softly. “I’m one of the volunteers here at FEAST. What’s your names?”
The two girls looked nervous but eased a bit at May's softness. The blonde replied. “My name is Sara…” She turned to the redhead. “This is my sister, Jean.”
May nodded and smiled at the two kids. “Where are your parents?”
The kids grew uncomfortable at the question which concerned May.
“Hey, what's wrong?”
Jean and Sara started crying. “Our mom left us.” Sara spoke through tears. “She said she didn't want us anymore.” That broke May's heart. “We have nowhere else to go.”
