Summary
Renée is five when she meets Lau in a garden neither of them knows how to reach.
His name is Laurefindelë, which Ren decides is far too much name for one person, so Lau it is. Weirdly, he has pointy ears. She does not.
For a while, these are the strangest things about him… and then, they grow up.
When everyone else starts calling him Glorfindel, Ren mostly thinks they have made an already ridiculous name worse. The rest of his history is harder to laugh at—and, sooner rather than later, much harder to keep at a distance.
Or: Irmo, Nienna, and Námo meddle, and Ren spends several Ages being impressed by Lau for reasons that have very little to do with the legend that has become Glorfindel.
