It's Not Easy to Take Care of a Sick Mr. Milverton

Summary:

Mr. Milverton gets sick - and he also gets onto Ruskin's nerves.

Work Text:

"Mr. Milverton, you should take a nap. It will help you recover sooner." Ruskin told his employer for who knows how many times on this day. Mr. Milverton got sick yesterday and ever since then, Ruskin just couldn't bear with him. Mr. Milverton was always hard to handle - he was eccentric and had strange beliefs about himself and humanity,.and Ruskin also thought that his plans were sometimes over the top - but under normal circumstances, he could manage. He learned how to deal with Mr. Milverton's weirdness during the years he served him, but even this knowledge didn't help him when his employer fell ill. If that happened, Mr. Milverton started to act like a whiny five-year-old who didn't do as Ruskin told and kept wanting to leave the bed.

However, not even when he was like that, Ruskin fell so low to beg him. After all, Mr. Milverton was an adult. He would never beg an adult - not even if the adult in question was his employer and lover.

"I don't want to take a nap, Ruskin." Mr. Milverton shook his head and sneezed. Ruskin immediately handed him a tissue so he could blow his nose. Mr. Milverton did it and after throwing the used tissue onto the ground - he can't even keep order when he is sick, Ruskin rolled his eyes - he continued. "I want to do something." He gave a glance at Ruskin, trying to seem irresistible, but he was not so much when his cheeks were red and his voice hoarse from the sickness.

"You can do something, sir. Sleep." Ruskin brought up the suggestion again while he felt more and more pathetic - like he was truly talking to a child.

"But I want to do something outside of the bed." Mr. Milverton innocently blinked. "Let me work a bit. It will do good for my health."

"No, it won't." Ruskin let out a sigh. Mr. Milverton was acting ridiculous. "Rest will do good for your health, so you should take a nap as the doctor advised you. The sooner you recover, the sooner you can work." He tried to bring some sense to his stubborn employer's head.

"But I am not that sick." Mr. Milverton opposed. "I am just bored.

"You wouldn't be bored if you took a damn nap!" Ruskin lashed out with some annoyance. He tried to be patient as much as he could, but he had enough. He wanted Mr. Milverton to heal soon and let him do whatever he wished to do - but if he kept fighting back, he made his own recovery slower.

Mr. Milverton stared at him and didn't say anything. It was clear for Ruskin that his harsh comment surprised him even if he got used to his sarcasm. But to Ruskin's relief, the little firmness finally made an effect. Mr. Milverton slowly nodded and lay back in the bed.

"If you say so." He answered and his golden eyes were wide and full of questions.

Now that he obeyed, Ruskin felt some guilt about lashing out at his sick employer. He took his hand into his own and gave a gentle, apologizing kiss to his forehead.

"After you sleep, I promise that I will come up with a way I can entertain you with while you are resting." He swore. "Believe me, I will not let you stay bored."

Mr. Milverton flashed a smile at him like this was what he really wanted to hear.

"You better not let it." He smirked and closed his eyes. Despite his hard fight against it, Ruskin soon heard that he was asleep. He remained on his employer's side and held his hand.

It was much easier to take care of Mr. Milverton when he was sleeping.
