It had been nearly 200 years since Shelby Grace- no. Since Shelby Goldsmith left the horrors of Oakhurst behind. Nearly 200 years since her and her coven had left Oakhurst and moved to London.
Those who had left were herself, Ren, Owen, Legs, Drift, Apo, Abolish and Sausage. Cleo and Pearl survived too but were more than content with maintaining and living in the manor, and rebuilding the town.
And the ghost of Pyro still followed her around. For some reason or other there was something keeping him tethered to this world, and he was also the one person who couldn't run from Shelby’s incessant babbling about the newest haunting or sighting.
Legundo had gone off on his own, still being tracked by the organisation and he was experimenting with more modern medicine. While overcoming his trauma by volunteering at hospitals and places that need a doctor. Last she heard he got his phd in working with patients and was the best surgeon at his current hospital.
Sausage and Ren had accompanied Apo on her way home and after seeing her off, went to travel the world for new ideas to cure his voice and the next bit of inspiration to write a novel of.
Abolish and Owen live relatively close by to Drift and her. When asked why they didn't just move in, Owen said he likes his peace and quiet and Abolish claims he is too messy. Which Shelby knows is a lie, that man would vacuum the whole place if he saw a single speck of dust and his room was always clear of clutter and mess.
But anyways, it had nearly been 200 years since the tragedy of Oakhurst and 180 years since Abolish announced he got Scott’s old fortune back and they would never have to work a day in their eternal lives.
But Shelby was incredibly bored. Writing was fun for only so long and the news and blogs she kept up to date with hadn't posted anything note-worthy in a long time. Last she checked Ghost Hunt UK was still broken up and their lead was being scrutinised by the community of supernatural hunters.
Drift hadn't been in the house much ever since she got a police job a couple years back.
Pyro was always out and about, annoying Abolish or popping in to visit Cherri and Apo. Thankfully Cherri had practically begged to turn so she could live out eternal life with Apo and Pyro was a very helpful ghost and always made sure they had enough food.
So yeah, Shelby was bored out of her mind. So she was scrolling on her phone one day when she saw a post about something called the Magnus Institute. Doing a bit more digging it seemed they specialised in supernatural things, they had an entire section called the Archives whose job it was to take real people's statements for star’s sake! And all Shelby saw was unlimited potential, inspiration unlike any other. She was going to try to get a job at the Magnus Institute. Perhaps as a receptionist so she could meet all the interesting faces and ponder what stories lay behind their eyes.
Drift was so shocked when she said this.
“Shelby nothing good has ever come from that institute, trust me. They have some kind of conspiracy going on and me, Basira and Daisy and the other section 31’s are the only ones who can actually take care of strange shit around there. It is too dangerous.” she said finally but Drift knew deep down when she said ‘nothing good ever came from there’ Shelby would respond with how she would make it better.
“Maybe nothing good has happened because they don't have me! Besides, I'm immortal and with the shoddy ways people have to ‘kill’ a vampire I will be perfectly safe!”
“Just because people kill feral vampires like that doesn't mean it will not hurt like hell.”
Shelby was silent for a little before looking down and staring back up at her solemnly.
Puppy dog eyes, or bat eyes, both were equally cute.
“Fine. But get Pyro to be invisible with you. Police activity is low around there and I don't want you getting hurt.” Drift sighed as Shelby went on a tangent about all the inspiration she would find there.
She deserved nice things after Avid and Scott. Her mind unwillingly drifted to them as Shelby prattled on.
Firstly was how Scott ended his time in Oakhurst. Martyn had found a book and when everyone was going to be turned to get out of Oakhurst he used it. Turns out it was a last ditch effort by the original witch that put him to sleep in case he woke up again. And that book sent him back into a deep slumber, one he may not wake from for a millenia.
Shelby was his best friend and was so excited to show him the world outside, given that he skipped 600 years.
Nobody stopped it when Martyn died from the conflict of sires and Ren was quickly subdued and brought out of Oakhurst by Apo and Sausage. She hoped he was ok now and could see all that was good about vampires, not just the bad bits he was taught and shown. With Sausage she could almost guarantee it.
Secondly Avid had died to Owen and Pyro’s hand and Shelby had staked Pyro for it. She was going to stake Owen too but when he shoved the personnel diary of Avid into her hands and she skimmed it her eyes had filled with tears. Avid had planned to get the barrier to fall and then stake all of the vampires, including her, Drift and Scott, then go and live his new eternal life. When Pyro and Owen had found out about it they went to stop him.
Shelby had sobbed into Owen’s arms for an hour after that and swore to never kill again without proper cause. When Pyro’s ghost popped up a while later everyone was shocked but Shelby was over the moon.
That was only a brief memory tour as Shelby nodded her head and ran off to go find Pyro and Abolish.
