Groggy eyes blinked open, taking in the hazy scene that flooded the quickly darkening senses. The sun was setting, the dull light beginning to fade over piles of rock and rubble. There was a light breeze in the air, and the sound of faint voices carried along it.
It was cold.
A hand lifted slowly into view. Blood covered the skin, the crimson liquid already beginning to dry in ugly, uneven clumps.
There was too much of it.
The fingers flexed once.
Alive.
The realization came without relief.
Cursed energy moved through the body in violent currents.
Pain followed.
Every nerve seemed to recoil from it. Every muscle seized beneath the foreign pressure, as though the energy itself did not belong there.
A sharp breath escaped between clenched teeth.
The hand fell against the ground.
For several moments, there was nothing but pain.
Then it began to fade.
Slowly.
Alive.
After minutes of cringing against the agony of cursed energy pouring into this body, a hand came to grip at its side, grasping at the healthy skin there.
The hands were shaky, unsure.
A lightening bolt of pain shot through bones, and it felt as if every single one would shatter with the sheer input of cursed energy. This body was… rejecting it. Why?
