Work Text:

Coco got out of bed slowly, her eyes acclimatising to the light streaming in through the window. To her surprise, her roommate wasn’t in their shared space, reading or drawing spells. There were quite a few crumpled papers on her desk, though.
‘Typical Agott, always working on her spells,’ Coco thought to herself, a knowing smile on her face. She tumbled down the stairs and found Richeh observing Brushbuddy munching on some fruit.

“Good morning,” she said.

“Good morning Richeh! Uh… where are the others?”

“Master Olly is in his room. Agott and Tetia went with Master Qifrey to Kalhn to buy supplies.”

“Why didn’t you go with them?”

“I wasn’t in the mood, and I have whatever I need already.”

“I see. Okay then, I’m heading back upstairs.”

“See ya.” Brushbuddy made a little squeaking noise.

She entered her and Agott’s quarters, a bread roll in hand, and decided to see what spells her roommate had been practicing this time. She unfurled the papers on her desk and was met not by seals and sigils but just writing.

‘What could these be?’ she wondered.

One page read:

“Things to gift Coco

  • Flowers
  • Grimoires
  • Fabric
  • Ink?”

The next:

“Where to present all this to her

  • In the room (evening time for ambience)
  • Outdoors (picnic?)
  • Maybe I could recreate Tetia’s fluffy cloud magic

(I’ll consider the options based on what she likes.)”

Coco giggled at the sight. ‘Oh, Agott,’ she thought to herself. Her roommate really did care for her under that nonchalant exterior. Coco was glad that she was expressing it more.

‘I’ll leave these right as they were.’

Determined to get a good spot ready for the two of them, Coco laid down a picnic sheet, with spells drawn on it to prevent it from flying away with the breeze, and spread out utensils and an assortment of snacks, like honey puddings and fruits. She’d picked the spot from where the sunset was best viewed, and the grass was just the right height, soft and lush, adorned with wildflowers. Once it was all set, she eagerly anticipated Agott’s return.

It was almost time. Coco watched Agott and the others enter the atelier, bags and boxes of things piled up in their arms. She waited a while, expecting Agott to be in search of her, and, sure enough, she saw her looking this way and that outside the atelier soon after.

“Over here!” she called, waving enthusiastically her way. Agott looked surprised for a moment, but promptly reached the hill Coco was on, using her sylph shoes.

“Coco, what’s all this?” she asked, taking in everything.

“I thought we could spend the evening here, together,” she replied, “if that’s alright-“

“It’s lovely,” Agott remarked, a blush creeping up her cheeks, “Thank you, Coco.

On that note, I also have some surprises for you,” she said, handing her a well-wrapped box and a bouquet of flowers, and sitting before her, watching as she smelled the flowers and smiled contently.

“These are so gorgeous, Agott! And they smell wonderful!!”

“They’re not as pretty as you, though,” her companion said with a grin.

“Where’d you get that from? And how’d you know I like these flowers best?” Coco inquired playfully.

“I have my ways,” Agott replied, knowing full well that line was Tetia’s idea and desperately trying not to blush too hard at seeing Coco smile. “Open the box, too.”

Coco did as told, carefully peeling away the smooth wrapping so as not to tear it, and prying open the box. She couldn’t help but gasp at the sight.

Inside was a bottle of gleaming emerald ink, matching her hair, that swished when she picked it up, and an intricately decorated grimoire. She flipped the pages of the book, revealing dozens of dazzling spells, all of which were just for the sake of being beautiful.

“Agott!! This is splendid!!” she exclaimed, excited as could be. “Let’s cast a spell from here right now, one we both like.”

She agreed, and, using the viridian ink, Coco drew a spell that caused the now darkening sky to be filled with glistening, breathtaking lights. The two wore wide grins as they took in the marvels of it, and then their eyes met each other once more.

“This is the best gift I could’ve asked for,” Coco said. “Thank you so much, Agott!” She embraced her tightly, and she did the same.

“I’m glad I could make you happy, Coco,” Agott told her.

“You always do, Agott,” she replied back.

Hand in hand, they gazed at the stars, enjoying the bliss of each other’s company.
