    The house was silent, and he couldn’t see the glow of any lamps.

    “Shane?” He called.

    No reply.

    Ilya checked his watch, 8:49. Huh. He knew Shane went to bed early but not that early. He toed off his shoes and placed his bag on the bench by the table before heading upstairs to the bedroom.

    He opened the door, and sure enough, Shane’s sleeping form laid on the bed, curled up under the large duvet. Ilya smiled to himself before walking to the side of the bed. He crouched down and gently shook his sleeping boyfriend.

    “Shane,” he said softly.

    “Jesus Christ!” Shane huffed out, jolting awake.

    Ilya pulled his hand back. “Sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you.”

    Shane rubbed his eyes as he tried to wake up fully. “Ilya?”

    Or: Ilya decided to surprise Shane by coming to see him the night before he had planed to and finds out Shane is sick and didn't tell him
