A sound sleep after a while

Summary:

During their second year after the war, Izuku's mental (and physical) health took a toll.

Who else can help him besides his beloved boyfriend?

Work Text:

Second year at UA highschool.

Class 2-A, previously well-known as 1-A, survived a traumatic time: a war.

While the war had left everyone effected in one way or another, everyone started seeking help, provided by UA of course.

While they're still not perfectly 'okay' or as they used to, they're improving a ton! Afterall, no one can get as well as they were (before a traumatic incident, that is) within a span of 8 months.

That is, except for one student.

Izuku Midoriya.

With the guilt of being Tenko's 'murderer', the loss of One For All, and his dream of becoming a hero, his mental (and physical) health took a toll. Despite all the help his school tried to provide, either through therapy or counselling, Izuku just simply would not open up, let alone listen. He kept everything bottled up, and only occasionally told the person in charge (usually Mr. Aizawa) of what's happening to him, consistently smiling and continuing to encourage his peers while his embers fade faster every second.

Izuku lost a ton of weight, leaving him nearly looking like All Might if not a bit more healthier. Sometimes, very few times, his friends and teacher would find Izuku in the middle of... One of his episodes. Those episodes consist of izuku shoving food into his mouth to the point he'd start feeling sick to his stomach, then proceeds to throw it up in the nearest bathroom stall.

It made them feel horrible. They knew what was going on but they couldn't do anything to help. Anything.

~~~
One time, Yaoyorozu woke up from her sleep. She looked at the clock and saw it read 3:49 AM. She couldn't go back to sleep, so she decided to make herself a cup of tea. Maybe that'll help with calming her nerves and hopefully allow her fall back asleep, considering the heavy day her and her classmates have in school tomorrow-- well, technically in a few hours.
She grabbed a shawl and walked out of her room towards the elevator and pressed the 'GF' button. Once she reached the dimly lit common area she could hear some muffled noises, though she couldn't make them out. She peaked her head behind the wall only to see Izuku shoving food down his throat, as if he hadn't ate in days and that he was starving. Which she didn't doubt. She hadn't seen him come down to eat with the class for so long, even in the school cafeteria. He would either skip breakfast by taking extra time to get ready or simply disappear from their line of sight during lunch hours.
"Midoriya...?" she called out softly, "Are you okay?" she softly clutched the shawl wrapped around her, hoping her voice didn't startle him. To her worse nightmare, Izuku completely froze. Slowly turning to face her she could see he was panicked. Horribly. She slowly stepped closer, "Izu- Midoriya, it's okay!" she tried reassuring him holding a hand out, Izuku fully turned to face her, most likely ready to bolt.
"Would you like me to make some tea? To drink with that i mean. It might help with digestion," she suggested softly  (attempting to play it cool) she now stood right infront of him. A worried expression on her face.
Before she could add anything (and before he could reply) Izuku bolted straight to the common bathroom, hand on his mouth. "Midoriya!" she shouted, running after him. She hoped the her voice wasn't loud. At least not loud enough to wake up any of her peers, or teacher. But that was the least of her worries right now.
Izuku crashed down infront of a toilet. It was white and plain, nothing fancy. Yaoyorozu ran after him but briefly stopped in her tracks when she realised she'd be entering the boys bathroom, she took a deep breath through her nose and out her mouth. She stepped into the bathroom and kneeled down next to Izuku, while he threw up what food he had just eaten.
"It'll be okay," Yaoyorozu whispered, rubbing soft, small circles on her friends back. After a few moments Izuku mumbled something that Yaoyorozu didn't catch, "I'm sorry, do you mind repeating that?" she asked softly, her voice gentle as always.
"I'm so sorry," Izuku choked out, fat tears streaming down his cheeks. Yaoyorozu eyes widened slightly, before she could say anything Izuku started throwing up once again. She rubbed circles on his back again, her expression softening, "It's not your fault, Izuku." the taller girl pulled out---created--- a small towel from her forearm, holding back tears, "You saved all of us. You did what you could for-"
"What the fuck?" Yaoyorozu looked up at the familiar, rough voice that had interrupted her. "Bakugo?" her eyes widened slightly, standing up a bit while still leaning towards him and a hand still on Izuku's back, who was now leaning against the toilet seat completely, fighting back a fainting spell.
"I'm sorry, did I wake you up?" she asked, smiling softly.
"No, I couldn't sleep." Bakugo admitted whilst walking inside the bathroom, stepping closer to the pair. Eyes narrowing, "Did it happen again?" his voice was uncharacteristically calm. Soft even. Which become a some sort of common occurrence, considering he's nearly always high on pain killers.
Yaoyorozu hesitated for a moment, before nodding, quietly adding, "I wanted to make myself some tea, but then I saw Izuku..." she trailed off looking at izuku's tired face.
"'m fine..." Izuku mumbled, his words were mushed together. Her eyes narrowed but never losing their gentleness, "Do you still feel like vomiting?" she kneeled down again to his height while Bakugo stepped closer to the pair, ready to pick him up and walk him back to his dorm room. Izuku weakly shook his head. Bakugo fully entered the now cramped stall and wrapped Izuku's arm around his neck and picked him up with a small grunt, considering he lacked use in one arm momentarily.
"Please wait a moment!" Yaoyorozu stood up quickly, she ran over to the nearby sink and damped the small towel she had previously created, Bakugo clicked his tongue on the roof of his mouth watching Yaoyorozu move. "I'd like to clean up his face a bit," she walked right back over, using her free hand to lift up Izuku's face towards her. He looked rather pale. Might be coming down with a fever? But it could also be because he threw up. "If he went back to sleep like this then he might get sick." she wiped his face.
"This damn depression phase of his needs to end." Bakugo scowled, Yaoyorozu eyed him, frowning, "Not only is he worrying the teachers, but he's also worrying us, and
auntie. Fuck, even my mom's worried about him." Izuku's face scrunched up slightly, saddened by what Bakugo said, "I'm... sorry..."
"Stop apologising you damn nerd!" Bakugo yelled in his ear, only to quickly school his tone and mutter out a small 'my bad' while turning his head away. "Well, I'm done. Bakugo, try to be careful on the way, okay?" Yaoyorozu looked at him in her stern yet gentle face, "Do you need help carrying him?" she asked. Bakugo wanted looked at her and then scoffed and turned around with his childhood friend held close, "I don't."
Yet, she still trailed after them outside the bathroom and stopped when they reached the elevator, "Try to sleep, Izuku, okay?" she softly said looking at Izuku who weakly nodded, then looked at Bakugo, "You too, Bakugo."
The elevator doors closed and Yaoyorozu saw the pair being lifted from the glass elevator walls. She sighed and went back to the kitchen to make herself the well deserved tea. She pondered whether or not to mention this to Mr. Aizawa, telling him it happened again. She decided she'll just simply send him a text message, informing him if anything that Izuku might not be able to go to school in a couple of hours.
~~~~~~

Bakugo opened Izuku's dorm room and waltzed right in. It was still full of All Might merch, pictures of their classmates and friends stood on his desk and walls every now and then, giving people something else to look at other than just All Might.

Bakugo reached Izuku's bed and threw him on it, "Damn it, I need to work on my arm more." his voice rough, as he rubbed his forearm. He sighed, tried to tuck Izuku in his blankets. He did the best he could with one arm (by covering his stomach and chest), and was about to leave before Izuku muttered something. Bakugo turned around, eyes narrowing into a(n accidental) glare, "What did you say?"

"ank.. yu.."

"Hah? Speak up!"

"Thank you.. Kacchan..."

Bakugo watched Izuku for a few moments, seeing him drift off to sleep and then sighed again. He left the room and closed the door gently behind him.

"Bakugo?" a calm voice called out, "Is everything okay with Izuku?"

"He's fine, IcyHot. Go back to sleep." Bakugo ordered as he walked past Shoto to walk to his own room. Shoto raised an eyebrow, then walked towards his boyfriend's room before being (rudely) interrupted, "I said go back to sleep!" Bakugo shouted, it was a little loud but not loud enough to alarm, or wake up anyone else (If they were deep sleepers anyway).

Bakugo coughed lightly before continuing, "He just fell back asleep. Don't disturb him."

"I see." Shoto's reply was short and calm, he, with no regard to what Bakugo just said, walked up to Izuku's door and creaked it open only to see that Izuku really was asleep and well. He closed the door quietly behind him and looked at Bakugo, who was fuming with rage, "Calm down, Bakugo. It's not good for your heart." He deadpanned, then bowed his head and walked off to his own room, "Sleep well."

'I'm going go kill that IcyHot bastard during training today.' Bakugo thought as he stomped off to his own room on a completely different floor.

~~~~~~
Finally, everyone woke up from their sleep. Meeting in the common area, most already in their uniform while a few still in their pajamas.
"Alright!" Iida called out, getting everyone's attention, "Since we're all here let's start eating breakfast before heading to class, we have a long day ahead of us today!"
Some grumpled and groaned at the reminder of how hard their day will be, while others continued talking with whoever they were talking to. Shoto perked up, looking around the room to try to find his boyfriend.
"Where's Izuku?" Shoto asked, not to anyone in particular but he still got a reply from his relatively new classmate, Shinso, either way, "He should be coming down in a bit," picking up an egg from his plate and eating it, he shrugged, "That's what he said anyway."
Shoto hummed, slightly relieved. But something was still rubbing him the wrong way, "Did you talk to him?"
"Yeah," the purple haired boy took a sip from his glass of water, "Just a morning greeting, though, nothing much."
"I see."
The feeling did not leave Shoto, even after arriving in class.
It, instead, multipled.
~~~~~~

It was near afternoon. To be more exact, it was 10:52. He has not seen Izuku all morning. Or in class, actually.

The bell rang, a few minutes later, indicating the start of a small break in-between classes. He used that time to go up to his homeroom teacher.

"Mr. Aizawa," Shoto called out, his teacher looking down at him, while picking up his signature sleeping bag---with the addition of some childish stickers---seemingly out of nowhere, "Yeah?"

"Have you seen Izuku?" his question was direct and straight to the point. His voice didn't do a very good job at hiding his worry though, "I didn't see him during breakfast nor has he been answering my texts."

"I have, yes," his teacher turned around to face him, "He'll be taking a couple of days off school because of a nasty fever." he rubbed the back of his neck, his hair up in a half bun, "Didn't he tell you?"

Shoto shook his head and looked down, "Shouldn't he be with Recovery Girl, then?"

"Recovery Girl can't cure fevers," Aizawa's voice even and tired. "I already checked up on him this morning, picked up some medicine and cooling pads, and if you must know, I'll be checking up on him during training as well."

A few minutes of silence fell between them. Aizawa scanned and tried to read his students face. It was full of worry. He sighed, looking over at a clock.

"Look, kid," Shoto looked up, eyes hopeful, "Your heroics training shouldn't start until 2 or so hours. You can go visit him, but you have to come back before they start, alright?"

"Yes, Mr. Aizawa," Shoto's voice was calm, yet it held a hint of excitement and happiness. Without skipping a beat, he ran out the class ignoring the questions from his classmates, through the wide halls of U.A. and aimed for Class 2-A's dorms.

~~~~~~~
Izuku was tired and exhausted. He was also hungry but he can't bring himself to eat at all. Mr. Aizawa had practically forced down a toast with some jam and a banana down his throat, like, 2? 3? or so hours ago just so he'd be able to take his medicine.
He thought about going back to sleep until he heard a knock on his door. Is it Mr. Aizawa again? Or maybe All Might? All Might sent him a text an hour ago telling him he'll try to find the time to check on him, and hopes that he's doing a little better. They might've come to check up on him. Until, he heard the one voice that makes his heart flutter.
"Izuku? Are you awake?" gentle knocks continued. Izuku opened his eyes slowly, blinking them awake. He let out a soft groan as he tried to sit, and eventually, stand up. "I'm coming in, okay?" the door opened, Shoto stood there staring at Izuku, looking disheveled, while breathing heavily. Izuku could tell Shoto ran all the way here, even in his foggy state.
"Hey," Izuku smiled softly, his voice hoarse and weak.
"Hey." Izuku's room was dimly lit. Lights turned off with the curtains having a small gap between them. Shoto walked towards him, his breathing gradually slowing down, "Don't sit up."
"I'm fine, Shoto, re-" Izuku tried flashed one of his smiles, but was interrupted by a dry cough that sounded more painful than it felt.
"That's what you said last time and you ended up passing out." Shoto ignored the cough for a moment, his voice was cold and stern, but filled with worry. I mean, can you blame him? Shoto put his hands gently on Izuku's shoulders, pushing him down.
"I really am fine, Shoto. I promise!" Izuku tried resisting a bit. But between his sick body, and Shoto's strong arms, we could tell who won.
Izuku now laid flat on his bed, "Mr. Aizawa said it was a small fever and that I'll be as good as new later today!" Shoto narrowed his eyes, putting his palm on Izuku's forehead to check for the fever, "Really?" he asked, feigning conviction. Izuku nodded slowly. "Is that so-"
"Yeah!"
"-Because he told me that you had a nasty fever that'll leave you bedridden for a couple of days." Shoto rested his hand back to his side.
Izuku looked at him stunned. He turned his head and pouted, but did not argue. Cause, damn it. Mr. Aizawa really told him everything, huh.
Shoto shuffled around the medicine on the shorter boy's bed side table, mumbling as he read each note plastered on the cardboard box. A habit he picked him from his boyfriend.
"I'll be back," Shoto abruptly told Izuku as he placed the medicine back on the table, and disappeared into the hallway. Izuku stared at the door, the last place he saw Shoto, and slowly blinked his eyes drifting off to sleep.
After a couple of minutes, Shoto returned with a mug full of soup that Aizawa seemed to have prepared----thank god for Mr. Aizawa--- for Izuku. Shoto knew that Izuku wouldn't eat lot, and if he did he would throw it all up anyway. So he brought a mug instead of bowl.
"Izuku," Shoto called out, walking closer to the bed. He placed the mug on the bed side table as he sat on the edge of the bed. "Izuku."
Izuku let out a soft hum, opening his eyes, blinking a few times to adjust to the dim light. Shoto then took Izuku by the upperarms and slowly pulled him up, fairly easily too. Allowing him to get used to the different position he now was in, then smoothly flopped him on his lap. A hand on Izuku's back to support him from behind and another to pull him closer by thighs. The shorter boy then leaned into the warmth of the taller boy's left side, leaving his head in the crook of Shoto's neck.
Shoto grabbed the mug and held it up towards Izuku's mouth, "Drink this, after this you'll need to drink two pills... I think." Izuku hesitated as he looked at the mug that was nearly pressed against his lips. He shifted slightly, letting out a soft whine as he faced Shoto's shoulder, blocking access to his face--- moreso, his mouth.
Shoto sighed softly, understanding his concern, "How about we interchange sips?" he asked. Izuku turned his head slowly to look at shoto.
"What do you mean?" Izuku raised an eyebrow, breathing a little unevenly.
"I take a sip from the soup and then you take one," he explained, voice fond, "That way you'd still be digesting something other than the medicine."
Izuku nodded seriously despite his exhaustion, he leaned further towards his boyfriend again, a hand clutching at his uniform.
Shoto started, deliberately taking a small sip. It was rather salty, but he supposed it was good for sick people. Then, he moved the mug infront of Izuku's mouth. Izuku took a deep breath in and out through his mouth, closing his eyes as he leans forward slightly. Shoto pressed the mug against the others lips while tilting it slightly up as Izuku gulped the soup, Shoto made sure Izuku took larger sips than he himself did.
this continued up until the soup was finished.
Shoto went to place the mug back on the bed side table and took the medicine Izuku now needed, "How was it?" Shoto asked as he broke apart the foil surrounding the pill.
"I guess it... Wasn't bad" Izuku admitted, clutching at his stomach, "It... It felt nice..."
Shoto smiled softly as he handed Izuku his pills, "Yeah, it did." maybe not the soup, but exchanging sips with Izuku made Shoto happy. Izuku took the pills and swallowed them dryly, "I can do that everytime, if you'd like," Izuku looked up at him, big green eyes staring at Shoto.
Shoto couldn't help but tilt Izuku's head up and place a kiss on his marred cheek. Izuku giggled slightly before slowly moving his arms around Shoto's neck.
Shoto threw himself back on Izuku's bed as the latter followed in suit. "Let's go to sleep. You must be exhausted," Shoto spoke as he cuddled up against his boyfriend. Izuku's head rested in the crook of Shoto's neck as their legs intertwined.
"Don't you have class?" Izuku asked, as he pulled himself closer.
"But you have to come back before they start, alright?" Aizawa's words echoed in his brain.
"No," he lied. "Mr. Aizawa let me off today, I guess to take care of you if you need anything. Y'know." he mumbled into Izuku's hair. Yeah. Shoto will deal with the consequences later. Right now, his boyfriend needs him more than anything.
Izuku hummed in response, "Love you, Shouchan." Finally, Izuku drifted off to sleep.
"Love you, too, bun" Shoto replied before pulling Izuku a bit more closer, nuzzling into his chest.
~~~~~~

Bonus:

Shoto was sweating profusely. Yeah, sure, he did say he will deal with the consequences later. If anything, he just wanted to go back in Izuku's bed right now.

But if anything, he's in the common room area, trapped by his teacher's capture scarf. In front of him standing an extremely irritated and angry Mr. Aizawa. Just what happened in training today to make him this pissed off?

"Didn't i tell you to come back before afternoon training?" Aizawa's brow twitched, "Or was i not clear?"

"Mr. Aizawa, he might've accidentally fallen asleep!" Yaoyorozu interjected nervously from the side. Only for Aizawa to turn his glare towards her did she let out a small yelp.

After a moment of silence from Shoto, Aizawa sighed in defeat. Letting go of his capture weapon, he turned to Shoto immediately, pointing at him, "3 day house arrest, and not a single complaint!" he yelled, then stormed off to his room.

"Was that supposed to be a punishment?!" Ashido's voice came from the couch, as she was putting on a green face mask.

"Yeah dude, he'd be with Izuku the entire time! That's hardly a punishment!" Kaminari replied, as he was getting his nails painted by Tsu, who giggled at his reasoning.

"Well, considering he will be left in the dark about school related topics then..." Shoji trailed off, letting others continue the obvious thought.

"Still, man! I'd honestly do anything to be on house arrest with Katsuki," Kirishima replied, grinning while looking up at Bakugo who was running his hand through his hair.

"Shut it, shitty hair!" Bakugo yelled, gripping Kirishima's hair while the latter let out small yelps of pain.

Shoto looked at his teacher. He spotted the faintest of smiles on his lips.

Yeah. He knew he wasn't punishing Shoto.

~~~~~~
"I'm so sorry, Shoto!" Izuku apologised as he sat next to his boyfriend, feeling much better, "You got sick because of me!"
Shoto laid flat on his futon, "My fever, if it can be counted as one anyway, isn't as bad as yours, Izuku," he smiled softly. That's true, he can regulate his temperature and will be as good as new in a couple of hours really. "But I guess it's your turn to take care of me."
Izuku let out an airy giggle and leaned down, "Of course! Anything you want," he kissed Shoto on the forehead.
"Well, first case of order will be..." Shoto trailed off, thinking, "Cuddle with me. That might be the only way I'd get better and get rid of this horrible fever," he said dramatically.
Izuku chuckled, he shifted himself so he lays down next to Shoto, under his blanket. Shoto quickly wasted no time in wrapping his arms around Izuku and pulling him close.
Izuku returned the gesture, smiling contently.
