“Hey, Sammy,” Bucky said, when there was a break in the conversation.
“Yeah?”
“Can I walk you through a hypothetical?” He asked, voice deceptively nonchalant.
Sam wasn’t buying it though.
“No,” he replied, tone clipped, and eyed Bucky suspiciously.
Historically, those seven words coming out of his ex-husband’s mouth had never meant anything good, particularly for Sam. And from the unbelievably innocent expression taking over Bucky’s face, Sam didn’t think this time would be any different.
“But sweetheart —
“No to that too,” Sam cut in, lips pursing. Then he sighed. “Actually, you should probably get back in your car. Aisha will be done in a minute, so —
“So, I’d better make this quick,” Bucky interrupted, wearing that trademark half smile of his that always seemed to make Sam’s good sense fly right out the window. “I think we should spend Christmas together, as a family I mean.”
