Work Text:

It had been a full year since Evil Morty started dropping by to see Morty. They had known each other for three years now, but somehow, this third year felt different—Evil Morty was visiting Prime Morty twice as often. At first, he would just portal in uninvited, but eventually, he changed his approach, walking right up to the front door carrying gifts, presents, and bouquets of flowers for Morty. Being a clever guy, Evil Morty knew how to make a lasting impression. Winning over the family of the person you had a crush on was a surefire way to make your mission a whole lot easier.

Usually, the person opening the door was Summer, Beth, or occasionally Jerry, but almost every single time, it was Morty. Today was no exception. He stood outside the Smith residence as the cold air and last night’s snow blanketed the front yard. Evil Morty was dressed sharp in an overcoat layered over a turtleneck and sleek slacks, presenting a composed and dignified look. After all, besides gifts, first impressions depended heavily on presentation.

Evil Morty stood in his signature posture—hands clasped behind his back, standing straight and composed. After pressing the doorbell and waiting a moment, the door finally swung open. The warmth from the indoor heater drifted out, revealing Prime Morty standing on the other side, wearing a sweater layered over another jacket, long pants, and the scarf that Evil Morty himself had bought him.
Morty flashed him a small, nervous smile, his cheeks tinged with a soft pink. The teenager greeted him over the background noise of Rick’s ranting

"H-hey, Evan." That was the name Morty had given him. He probably didn't want to call his alternate universe self "Evil" all the time, especially not on a day they were going on a date.

"Hey. Ready to go?" Evil Morty held out a bouquet of flowers toward Morty. Red roses. Yes, it was an aggressively bold move, but so what? If he wanted to give him an even bigger bouquet, he easily could.
Morty looked slightly flustered, but he took them anyway, his face growing even redder. The teenager clutched the bouquet to his chest, stared at it for a moment, and then leaned in to take a sniff before looking up through his lashes at Evil Morty.

"Th-the flowers smell so nice. U-um, is that a stupid thing to say? I mean, they’re flowers, of course they smell nice."

Seeing that, Evil Morty felt a wave of warmth spread through his entire chest. He let out a soft, relaxed sigh with a smile.
"Not at all. I'm glad you like them. Actually, not all roses have a scent, you know," he said, pulling out his portal gun.
"R-right. Of course," Morty muttered, trying to look away because his face was probably burning bright red right now. He tried his best to keep his composure. A yellow portal hissed open, and Evan offered his hand. Morty glanced at it for a second before shyly slipping his hand into his. Evan led him step-by-step through the portal.

Evan and Morty had mutual feelings for each other. Evan had spent the entire past year winning over everyone in the Smith household—well, except for Rick—just so they would trust him enough to look after their youngest son. Truth be told, he was already fully capable of protecting and caring for Morty, and he would happily do so for the rest of his life.

They arrived on a foreign planet, one graced by two permanent moons hanging in the sky. Blue meadows stretched out, dotted with bizarre-looking flowers, while faint, firefly-like glows drifted intermittently across the landscape. It was a peaceful planet located far outside the Curve—Evil Morty's own private sanctuary, or rather, Evan's.

Right in front of them stood a weeping willow. As they walked closer, they found a dinner table set up beneath a white fabric gazebo, beautifully decorated with flowers, with a lit candle flickering at the center. Evil Morty had gone all out this time, leaving Morty completely speechless. He hadn't prepared himself for this at all; his face must have looked like a ripe tomato because the other man couldn't help but chuckle.

"It's just dinner. Go on, have a seat," Evan said, stepping forward to pull out a chair for Morty.
"H-hey, dammit! I-I didn't prepare myself to have a fancy candlelight dinner on y-your private planet!" Morty stammered, shaking his head to snap out of his daze as he shot Evan a playful glare—not genuinely angry—before dropping his gaze and walking over to take his seat.
Evan leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to the curly brown hair of the other boy, making Morty blush even harder.
"H-hey!" With his ears burning bright red and looking utterly flustered, Evil Morty laughed softly and walked around to take the seat opposite him.
An automated butler robot arrived to serve dinner: a juicy steak. Morty didn't touch his food right away. Instead, he looked around, a gentle evening breeze brushing against his face. The view in front of him was breathtaking. The universe is truly infinite, he thought to himself.
Every movement of Morty's was caught in Evan’s gaze. His expression softened remarkably whenever he was around Morty. This kid made him feel inexplicably at ease.

Morty made him fall in love—perhaps because he was so ordinary, unpretentious, and completely honest with his own heart. A thousand little things had inspired him to take a leap of faith and try loving someone again. He had always preferred solitude; love made people weak, and acknowledging those feelings only brought turmoil to the mind.

But all that chaos quieted down whenever he was with Morty. It felt like coming home to a warm house.

They had hugged once before—back then, Evil Morty had tried to fight it... and ended up giving in. Surrendering to that warmth. The empty void inside him was suddenly filled by this person who had somehow wandered into his wasteland and tried to plant flowers there. Now, flowers bloomed everywhere, far outnumbering all the bouquets he had ever given Morty. No matter how he tried to repay that, it would never be enough. And now, that very person was sitting right across from him.

Dinner passed smoothly. Afterward, they sat together amidst the field of white flowers, gazing up at a sky blanketed by hundreds of thousands of stars forming the Milky Way. Neither of them spoke, but the silence wasn't awkward in the slightest. They let the quiet do its work, weaving the two young hearts closer together.
Morty leaned his head against Evan’s shoulder. Evan gently stroked the brown locks of his hair. He wanted to freeze time right then and drink it in for all eternity.

"You're... you're not going to disappear on me, right?" Morty finally whispered the lingering fear in both of their hearts.
Evan looked down at the boy leaning against him and pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead.
"Where would I go? When you're right here."
The teenager's face flushed pink once more as he looked up at his Evan—Evil Morty, the one he loved. The handsome face looking back at him was so tender that it made Morty's lips feel overwhelmingly irresistible. Before he could even overthink it, Morty's soft lips pressed against Evan's chin, followed by a deep, lingering gaze.

Evan blushed, then broke into a warm smile. He cupped Morty's chin, tilting his face up, and pressed his lips firmly against the other's. He could feel the warmth of Morty's breath. It was intimate, profound, and sweet enough to melt his entire heart like honey.
The kiss lasted a long time. Evan kissed him, pulling back just enough for the teenager to catch his breath, only to dive right back in—kissing his cheeks, his forehead, his eyelids, his neck, and the lobes of his ears. When he finally pulled back, Morty’s face was flushed bright red. Panting softly, the boy buried his face straight into Evan's chest to hide his flushed embarrassment.
Evan wrapped his arms tightly around him and spoke up.

"Be my boyfriend, Prime."

It was a sentence he never, in a million years, thought would leave his lips.
The teenager froze in shock, then looked up to meet Evan's eyes. Evan reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. Inside rested a silver ring, delicately crafted with tiny, shimmering gold accents. Morty looked back and forth between Evan's face and the ring, his face turning so red he couldn't possibly hide it anymore.

"M-me? Are you sure about this? I mean, you know how I am... I'm such an idio—" Evan cut him off.
"Then let's be idiots together from now on. Stay with me, Prime. You can whine and throw tantrums with me all you want; I can handle it, as long as it's you. Whatever you're going through, if you're weak, I'll spend the rest of my life protecting you. If you think you're foolish, I'll teach you everything, as long as you ask. No matter how hard things get, it's effortless for me as long as you're the one by my side. If you grow old, I'll grow old with you. And if anyone dares to hurt you, I will wipe out their entire species. You are my universe, Prime. You make me feel alive again... so,"

He dropped to one knee right in front of Morty.

"Stay by my side. Let me be the one to do this for you."

Snow was falling lightly. Morty walked back home, accompanied by a young man wearing an eyepatch.
Beth opened the front door, wearing a welcoming smile.
"Oh, you're back—oh." She didn't finish her sentence when she caught sight of the two of them. The eyepatch-wearing boy had his arm around Morty’s shoulders. A ring glistened on his finger—and on Morty's as well.
"U-um, Mom, well..." Morty stammered, his face flushed pink with shyness.
"Me and Evan, we—"
"We're dating," Evan finished the sentence smoothly.
Beth stood frozen in absolute shock. Hearing the commotion, the rest of the people in the living room came pouring out to the front door to see what was going on. Summer immediately whipped out her phone to record video of the two of them.
"What the hell? Are you guys dating or getting married?! Look at those rings!"
"What the—just how full of yourselves can you two possibly be?! Bchhh! You're acting just like your mother, Morty!!" Rick yelled out from inside, his voice loud and thoroughly unimpressed.
Jerry chimed in, "E-either way, you guys should come inside first! It's freezing out there!"
Evan looked down at Morty. Morty flashed him a sweet, brilliant smile, and together, they stepped inside the house.
