“If you are waiting for an invitation,” says a synthesized voice in lieu of a greeting. “I believe one has been pending for some time now.”
The pinch between Milo’s brow loosens. Instead, he blinks dumbly at the oddly-shaped figure in the doorway. The blank, unreadable expression of a porcelain mask sends a shiver down his spine. Dressed in scrubs, the person in the doorway examines him with appropriately clinical interest, the three lights haloing their head teetering as they tilt it to one side.
When Milo doesn’t say anything, the stranger tries again, more pointed this time. “Would you like to come in?”
