    Summary

There are rules in the old forest.

    1. Do not follow familiar voices into the trees.
    2. Do not invite something across your threshold unless you know what stands on the other side.
    3. Be careful what you give freely.

When a string of unnatural deaths leads Will Graham into the forest, he finds Hannibal Lecter—an ancient creature wearing the shape of a man, and the first being Will has met who seems to understand what he is. Hannibal should frighten him. Instead, Will keeps coming back. And when something in the forest begins hunting him, Will finds himself turning to Hannibal for answers, protection, and understanding. Hannibal asks for nothing in return. Perhaps that is the most dangerous thing about him.
