Work Text:
Frodo woke up and wanted to go back to sleep, there is this ache that will never go away. Since getting rid of the ring the gentle hobbit has never been the same.
He doesn't understand why he isn't better now, it has been a few months since the journey and he feels the same. Since the Fellowship disbanded the little hobbits still live in Gondor with Aragorn and Legolas. They didn't want to got back to Hobbiton because of the close bonds that they made over their year away.
He felt the weight of his Sam on this back with his arms around his waist. Ever since the journey Sam rarely lets Frodo out of his sight and Frodo can't say that he minds.
The brown haired Hobbit flipped around and burrowed his face in the blond's chest. He hears the crickets chirping like ghosts in the darkness.
As he moves he gives a slight whimper as his shoulder aches then his back seizes and the little Hobbit couldn't hold it in any longer so he let out a slight scream.
The other three Hobbits in the bed shot up ready to fight only to find their friend in pain. They immediately flocked to Frodo.
"My dear Frodo, what troubles you?" Sam asks.
Frodo couldn't speak the pain being to much
"Pippin get Ada and Ama" Merry told Pippin.
Pippin took off without a word to the connecting bedroom that was put in when the Hobbits told Aragorn they were staying with him for a while.
Sam tried to hold the injured hobbits but Frodo couldn't stop squirming.
Pippin ran back to the bedroom with Aragorn and Legolas in tow.
"Oh little one…" Aragorn whispered
"Ada…" Frodo called out
The king scooped the Hobbit up in his arms
"What is wrong my little love? What is hurting." Legolas said running his fingers through Frodo's curly hair.
"It hurts" Frodo whimpers rubbing at his chest
"I know little one, I know." Aragorn said.
Thankfully, he had the hindsight to bring the cream made of kingsfold. The king opened the little hobbits shirt and the little one inhaled sharply thinking the King was going to hurt him.
"Fret not little love I am here to help you" Aragorn said.
The other three Hobbits were hovering over their friend.
Sam was holding Frodo's hand with tears building up in his eyes.
"Its okay little love,Frodo will be fine soon." Legolas said
"But I want him to be fine now!" Sam exclaimed
Legolas nodded understanding the frustration.
Merry was holding Pippin to his chesy as the Took cried. They both looked at their poorly cousin in worry.
Aragorn rubbed the balm into the skin and Frodo finally settled. Squirming coming to a halt.
For a moment everyone just breathed.
"…sorry." Frodo mewed out closing his sky blue eyes.
Aragorn shook his head and cupped the little Hobbit's cheek.
"You have nothing to be sorry for little love." He said bumping their foreheads together.
Frodo started to cry again and buried his head in the kings chest trying to wrap his arms around his Ada.
Aragorn cried the first time his little ones called him Ada and Legolas Ama. He was honored that the Hobbits still trusted him that much even after anything. The Hobbits moving in with him and Legolas was one of the better ideas they have had. Frodo was by far the shyest one out of the four. It took a lot of coaxing, forehead bumps and cheek kisses for him even to step out of this room, to interact with the outside world. Not that the Fellowship blamed him at all.
He has made so much progress but recovery isn't linear. The family sat in silence, only the occasional sniffle from the injured Hobbit.
"Sometimes it feels like my finger is still there. I feel Gollum's teeth digging into skin that isn't there anymore." Frodo whispers out.
Sam grabs onto the four fingered hand and squeezes tight.
"Well that devil is long gone, my dear. You are safe here with me and Ada, Ama, and your cousins." Sam said with conviction. With the other's nodding along.
Frodo looked at his family and used his other hand to grab on to Aragorn.
"Stay?" he whispered
"Of couse little love. We will always be here." Aragorn said as he laid down next to Frodo. Legolas grabbed onto Pippin wiping away his tears and Merry laid on Pippin's other side. Samwise was spooning Frodo and Frodo was buried into the King's chest.
The Fellowship slept through the night.
