Chapter 1: Just saying

Chapter Text

“Will you marry me?”

Taehyung froze staring at Jin in shock. His mind racing with so many thoughts at the question. Marriage? Could he do that? Would that even be possible? His family approved of his dating a male. Hell they even called to check up on his boyfriend more than they checked up on him. But would that change their relationship? No. Yes. Maybe.

“Fuck…” Taehyung barely even realized that breathed out the word.

Jin looked confused and glancing down at the stack of papers in his hand, flicking through a couple of pages. “Uh... Taehyung-ah… That isn’t in the script…”

Taehyung shook his head both physically and mentally. “Right, right. Script. I am reading from a script.” He replied blinking furiously trying to focus.

Jin cocked his head to the side considering Taehyung. Taehyung’s normally tanned face was paled considerably and his dark brown eyes were wide. Normally this wouldn’t worry Jin as Taehyung often reacts to things a little oddly. Just last week he cried because the coffee machine broke. Not because he needed coffee or even that it was an expensive machine but because he liked the coffee machine. Fred was a good friend to him and the fact that they threw Fred the coffee machine away without consulting Taehyung resulted in a twenty minute crying fit that was only resolved by Jin frantically calling Jungkook to come calm his boyfriend down.

But this was different. Jin had been given an opportunity to play a supporting actor in a new drama coming up and had been rehearsing his lines with Taehyung since day one. The boy had a good acting persona and was actually really good at helping Jin rehearse the lines and get a good grip on his character. Taehyung would go from spacey, hyper, random Alien V and turn into… well Taehyung. He was focused and serious with all of his suggestions and advice. Except for today evidently.

“Uh… sorry Hyung. My brain just went off on its own and I got caught up in my uh own thoughts?” Taehyung said a bit embarrassed.

Jin set down his script and crossed his arms going into full Mom stance. “What’s wrong Tae-ah?” Jin’s tone was no nonsense and would not back down.

Taehyung sighed looking down at the floor of the apartment absently noting that they needed to vacuum again. He looked up through his bangs.

“Hyung, I think I am in love with Jungkook.”

Jin face palmed, letting his hand cover his face and mumbling his words. “Tae-ah… You have been dating Jungkook for over 4 years. I am pretty sure you have been in love with him for awhile.”

Taehyung face fell, his voice distressed. “No Hyung, you don’t understand. I LOVE , love him.”

Jin lowered his hand and stared at him in confusion. “Yes Taehyung. You love h-. You know what I am clearly not understanding what you mean. Please explain.”

Taehyung struggled with what he was trying to say and stood up to start pacing the floor. His feelings were swirling and he just couldn’t put them into words. Yes he has loved his Kookie for many years, and if he were to admit it was a couple years before they actually started dating but that is beside the point. Because Taehyung had passed love and it has turned into… love. The love that is there forever no matter what. The love that allowed him to understand exactly what Jungkook was feeling with a single sound. The love allowed Jungkook to somehow know when Taehyung was having a bad day and would wordlessly take him into their bedroom and start making Taehyung a nest to hide in. The love that when Jungkook fell down the stairs and broke his leg, Taehyung knew before his phone even rang that something was wrong. He loved Jungkook and he never wanted to let him go. He wanted to make the world see that. He wanted… He stopped his pacing in the middle of the floor and just dropped to sit there with knees drawn up to his chin.

“Hyung. I want to marry Jungkook.”

Jin’s eyes widened. “Oh. Oh! That’s… That great Tae-ah! Why are you freaking out?” He asked one half of his mind already planning the wedding cake the other half focusing on Tae who was still sitting on the floor.

Taehyung shrugged thinking for a moment, his brain was still spinning around. He was quiet for so long that Jin had finished planning the cake and had begun planning the reception thinking that the lamb skewers would be a hit not only for one of the grooms but for the guests as well.. He jerked in surprise when Taehyung’s husky voice spoke softly.

“Hyung what if he says no?”

Jin stared at him baffled. “Why would he say no? He loves lamb! I am sure he would love it for the reception!”

Taehyung stared at him blankly. “What?”

Jin waved his arms around emphasizing his point. “If Jungkook had his way, he would have lamb everyday, for every meal! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find new recipes so we all don’t get tired of lamb? Unless it’s you who wouldn’t want lamb? I can understand since you all live together now and it would be tiring to eat lamb all the time...”

Taehyung dropped his face into his hand almost identical to the look Jin had worn earlier. “Hyung,” he groaned out exasperated, “are you really planning the wedding reception when I haven’t even proposed yet?!”

Jin blinked. Oh right.

Taehyung stood up stretching his arms above his head, his back popping nicely and rolled his neck. Jin watched him curiously. “Tae-ah, do you really think Jungkook would say no to marrying you?”

Taehyung shrugged looking exhausted suddenly. His brain had finally stopped running around and he now was left with a headache. “I am a lot to handle, Hyung. You of all people know this.”

Jin winced at how resigned Taehyung sounded. Yes, Jin did know. Taehyung had suffered a lot when was younger and if it wasn’t for his older neighbor, Jin, practically adopting him as a brother he wouldn’t of survived it. Juvenile Taehyung was scattered. He would bounce from interesting thing to interesting thing. One moment he would be doing college level Calculus at age 14 and the next he would be chasing butterflies. He had no friends because he would say whatever he was thinking and would not understand if someone took offense to it. He hardly ever ate because he just never remembered, and those were good days. His bad days… he could almost become catatonic. Jin had first met 14 year old Taehyung on a bad day. Jin was 19 and had just moved in next to Taehyung’s family when he was just a freshman in college. The theater and fine arts major had no idea what to do with the crying boy he found on his doorstep. Taehyung had been so out of it that he was trying to open Jin’s door, thinking that it was his, and when it refused to open he just laid down on the ground and cried. His brain was just refusing to process anything. It was all too much.

Jin shuddered at the memory of that day. One would think that a first meeting like that would've caused him to move at the very least and certainly not create a 10 year friendship. With Jin’s help Taehyung gained a little stability in the world. At Jin’s prompting, Taehyung’s parents enrolled Taehyung in a school that was better equipped with his behavior. From there he learned how to handle his bad days and how to focus his brain when it flits off on random tangents. There he met Jimin and the two became inseparable. A couple years later Jin’s cousin Jungkook showed up on his doorstep with all of his worldly possessions shoved into paper bags and a black eye. Courtesy of Jin’s uncle. It was quite possible Taehyung fell in love with the small angry boy who responded to love with a fist because that was all he knew. The rest was history. Taehyung eventually graduated high school with Jimin at his side and together they bought a small apartment near the university. Shortly after that Jungkook and Taehyung began dating and when Jungkook graduated high school he moved from Jin’s apartment into Taehyung’s and Jimin’s.

He stood up from where he was sitting in the couch and slowly walked over to Taehyung and held up his arms for Taehyung to either move into them or to move away. Never touch Taehyung without warning and at it was best to always let him initiate it. Taehyung hesitated for a moment before walking into Jin’s arms wrapping his own around the slightly taller male’s waist. Jin tightened his arms around him in a small hug and said softly.

“Tae-ah, this is going to seem really harsh but you need to realize it. Okay?” He inquired carefully. Taehyung nodded.

Jin took a deep breath. “Tae-ah, if you were to much to handle Jungkook would've left you ages ago. People are horrible. They are selfish and never do anything unless they get something out of it. But sometimes what they are getting is not so bad. So if Jungkook has stayed with you then that means you are giving him something that he needs. You just need to ask yourself what it is that you are giving him and can you keep giving him that for the rest of your lives?”

Taehyung was quiet for a long moment and took comfort in his hyung’s words and arms. He understood what Jin was saying. Eventually he stepped back and gave Jin a small smile.

“You’re right, Hyung.” He looked down at the floor blushing a bit. “So uh… any ideas on how I should propose?”

Jin’s eyes light up like a child a Christmas.

Note to self: It is probably not a good idea to ask a hopeless romantic for advice on how to propose. Just saying.
