Chapter Text
This is a fanfic with two universes; many of the events are different from the original works.
Subaru Natsuki died forever.
A somewhat melancholic end to the story, but I can't help it, I'm dead forever. Unfortunately, my button...try againIt broke at the very last moment, when my past self would laugh at seeing my future self die in practically one. side quest.
Yes, I still had RbD in my arsenal of abilities, but something happened during the fight that caused my permanent death. It didn't seem like a mistake; I'm sure Satella wouldn't let me die in the middle of my journey, so I died right at the end, where I could tell it was the fight with the...boss optional. I don't want to disappoint my past self, the one who believed I could face anything with determination, but if the controls break, I can't transmit commands through thought. Now, facing what ended my own life, it seems that the place I am in has always existed, but it has been developing as I progressed on my journey.
I won't lie, I managed to accomplish what I wanted, making Emilia the queen of Lugunica. It took quite a while, counting the time I had to start over, but I achieved my main goal. Afterwards, I also ensured that the people I care about had a happy ending for each of them, using my past lives as bargaining chips to obtain what was necessary for the perfect conclusion.
Wait, before you say I should value my life more, yes, I have valued it enough for a long time, but still, there are times when there isn't much choice. The world always seems to be at war with me, trying to see how much my mind can endure after so many deaths, and the result is: No, I don't lose mentally. I must say that after so many comings and goings, and after living almost two lives in one, I've acquired a condition that will take a long time to disappear, something like an extended monologue about any action I take or see, always thinking about whether I can continue, or if I should just use life as a waste product and gather enough information to move on.
Yes, I know it's a terrible way to live, but don't blame me for my difficult journey.
Listen, I really did make Emilia queen, I managed to help who I wanted to, and then I decided I would just relax, but still trying to prevent evil from happening to the people I care about. I don't kill myself for nothing, but I try to survive to the limit that this life can provide me with in terms of usefulness so I can try again, that's just how I am.
Perhaps at one point I told myself that this was a terrible way to live, and I won't deny it, I don't give up easily on the moment, but even so, I won't give up any further on a destiny where I can be happy with the outcome, always aiming for the option where I can see the people around me and say, "Everything is alright!", with a big smile on my face.
Unfortunately, it seems the world had other plans for my life. I thought about marrying Emilia when the time came, even Rem, even though monogamy was my inner law, I couldn't leave either of them out of my life, romantically or not. I even got to the point of wanting to start a family with these people, to enjoy what I call finally starting my life in another world, from scratch.
I won't go into too much detail about what happened to everyone, but I can vaguely touch on those who are always by my side, like Garfiel, who seems to have opened his heart to Mimi's impulsive feelings, and they seem to be planning to actually become a couple. I'm still curious how they decided to agree to work together to create their own guild, where Mimi handles the brains and Garfiel the grunt work… Buddha, tell me, how did that work out? Nothing against my amazing feline friends, but the guild really became a success. Hey, Buddha, why didn't that work out for me?!
Otto continued working for Emilia, now directly for the kingdom, but his plans are also intertwined with something personal: love. It seems that good people are facing what I like to call "Crush Syndrome," where everyone, all of a sudden, starts wanting a partner to call their boyfriend or girlfriend, and Otto, yes, him, ended up suffering from it. I won't deny it, I really rooted for him to get together with someone, and his relationship with Frederica progressed to the point where he at least asked her out on a date. That's my boy, Otto!
Meili has grown quite a bit too. She still has some habits that remind me of Elsa, but she's become a wonderful woman. I'd say she's practically a daughter I partially raised, but I can say I'm proud to see what she's become. Seeing the power she held, and after everything was resolved with an official pardon given not only by Emilia, but by the entire kingdom after seeing what she had become after years of trying to change, she decided to embark on a journey alone, becoming a wanderer searching for a way to make her Divine Protection useful to anyone, like an animal savior of the Mabeasts. I call her Meirwin, a reference only I understood to "Steve Irwin." I hope the ending isn't the same; she's a strong woman, and she's still my girl!
Regarding Ram, it seems she didn't get what she wanted with Roswaal, and even I can't stomach her strange romance with him, but who understands someone's heart? Apparently, even after everything, Roswaal continued living like a duke in the region, still tending to his enclosure, and being kept away from Vulcanica with his claws, staying by Ram's side, who never abandoned him, being the almost perfect maid for quite some time, until, momentarily, Roswaal was forced to call another maid, a friend of Petra's from when she was still a child. Ram stayed with Roswaal, and nothing changed in their relationship, although I think it will be difficult for her to thaw his heart; our favorite clown seems to accept his sister's feelings better.
Speaking of Petra, she achieved what she wanted when she grew up, becoming a beautiful woman with an incredible independent job that she built herself: her own flower shop called "Flowers Lovers," an idea I suggested and she adopted. Even with the unusual name, Petra really enjoyed giving flowers to people she cares about. In fact, I was the first person she gave a flower to at the opening… Yes, I understood her intention, but I wasn't going to refuse, you know?! I cried a lot that day… Even so, Petra has also become a lovely woman with a new circle of friends, although she always comes back to talk to me, Emilia, and Rem.
Regarding Spica, she remained in Volakia for quite some time before moving to the territories Emilia possessed to build her new legacy in Lugunica as well. She still seems to have the same appearance as always, perhaps a consequence of being partially Emilia's daughter, but continuing with her new experiences, she practically became an essential piece in the reconstruction of Lugunica after the events with Capella, dealing with what remained of the corrupted parts of the archbishop, until nothing was left. After that, she came to live with me in our mansion. After everything, she still wanted to help, but she also decided to become a servant in the mansion. Of course, I initially refused, but she said, after finally learning to speak (I couldn't believe it when she said Subawu!), and asking Emilia personally, that she wanted to learn how to be someone who takes care of a house. This made her part of the family.
Regarding Frederica, her story is intertwined with Otto's; I don't have much to say, except that I'm surprised she actually accepted Otto's equally surprising advances.
Clind hasn't been seen since Capella was defeated. I looked into it further, and it seems he went to Gusteko to take care of personal matters.
Now about Shaula… It’s hard to say, but I still miss hearing her call me Master. I wasn’t the one who was there to raise her, nor the one who stayed with her in her early days, and then the one she abandoned, but still, I care about her. She’s someone I won’t allow to be unhappy in her final days. I need to do as I did with Beatrice, and repay the 400 years she spent alone, with interest, and quite high interest at that! Unfortunately, she won’t be with me, and she accompanies Meili, still in a form that barely resembles human, but who has a heart bigger than mine.
Regarding Beatrice, she is still by my side, my daughter whom I love equally along with all the others I have brought into my family. Of course, she is the one I see most often, she knows the most about everything I do, so obviously she is the one I am closest to. In fact, she was the one who was by my side when I finally died, a few minutes ago.
I blame myself for letting her watch me die in such a pathetic way. I couldn't even watch her cry as a way of punishing myself for failing.
About Emilia and Rem… It's difficult to talk when you live under the same roof as two beauties, one who is in my heart, and another who is in my heart. I still can't believe I'm so lucky as to have this in my alternate life. I can say that they are what kept me standing long enough to say that I managed to do what I wanted in this world…
I still wonder if something was missing, or if that thought of completion was what caused me to die definitively.
By preserving my memories, I will keep everything I've lived through in my heart forever, even if I live eternally in this limbo.
Of course, I can't ignore what happened, how I died.
I'm not one to dwell on details; death has never been acceptable to me, as it's the end of everything, and I've overcome the end many times. But, in short, I'm a knight, I have to carry out knightly missions, even as a partner of the queen, I still need to show that I'm someone capable of helping ordinary people, and that ended up being the reason for my death.
Facing someone whose name I don't remember, but I do recall their gray hair, similar to Otto's, but so long it touched the ground. Damn Otto, even in my death his face appears!
That's it, I'm dead, there's nothing more to be done.
But when my life was gone, I was still able to open my eyes to see a vast, black expanse.
Initially, the place I nicknamed "Shadow Garden," a cool way to refer to the empty field of shadows, had nothing, not even me with my body. It was as if my soul, my existence, was able to wander in this world without a body. However, as I progressed in this world to which I was summoned, I managed to gain authority by killing the other archbishops, and I became someone capable of being called a sage, and this also evolved within the Shadow Garden, allowing me, little by little, to obtain a physical body in this alternate world.
The plan that I always forgot when I woke up was right in front of me again this time, and it was what was considered Subaru Natsuki's afterlife.
I forgot to mention, but this monologue just happened, I'm really weird…
Looking at my hands, I was surprised to see my complete body. On my journey, I unfortunately lost my left arm, leaving me with only my right arm, but here in this world, nothing changed, not even my appearance. I wanted to look more like my father, so I started growing my hair out, and when my beard appeared, I thought about channeling 50% of Subaru Natsuki into a nice beard. Emilia said it was cool to pull it out, and Rem always said it was better to cut it because she was the one who most liked to run her hand over my face.
Continuing on, nothing had changed here on this land; I felt like a teenager, exactly as I was when I came into this world. It seems that the Shadow Garden only...updatedEven before I came to this world, I looked like a Subaru Natsuki with a terrible mindset of social isolation, even though I couldn't really do that right, I actually inherited my father's best genes.
Still lost in my own thoughts, I looked around to see what was new.
"I can speak."
The words came out of my mouth, but not in the form of thoughts. The surprise was immediate; I put my hand over my mouth and tested my new vocal cords.
"One, two, three! The bill comes to 300 yen. Tell me, do you want it with mayonnaise or without?"
Raising my hand in the air, I have already acquired a new skill: Speaking. Considering that I am dead, I have to rejoice in the achievements of the afterlife.
"It seems this place hasn't changed at all, that smoke is still there, swirling around... Who am I trying to fool, am I in limbo? I've played too much with my own life, is this my final sentence?"
I didn't want to live forever thinking about what I did, this is a punishment greater than any I could have imagined, get me out of here!
Walking through the large place, I searched for something that could inflate my hopes. It would be nice if I at least had someone to talk to, or a television to watch the series I haven't finished. Even though Iyou liveA part of a fantasy world, I miss television. Oh, what a cruel world, I can't watch the series!
"Can I at least get—Invisible Providence!"
Clenching my hand into a fist, I braced myself for the pain that would follow.
"What?"
The invisible hand emerged from my stomach without any problem, just like it could in my normal body, but this time, there was no pain, my brain didn't tremble as a result, the hand simply appeared and stayed still.
"Is there no pain in the afterlife?"
Using the invisible hand, I tried to hurt myself by pulling at the skin of my arm. It's true, I'm naked, it's strange to see your younger body like this, I was much older!
Ouch! That still hurts!
The invisible hand tugged at the skin on my arm; if I were to trust it, I'm sure it would tear off a piece of that skin. I wonder if there's some kind of special regeneration in that place, otherwise I'd be a dead man with missing body parts—it can't be!
But this was good to confirm that the pain existed, but that it was no longer directed at the authority of laziness, which was still in my possession.
"Wait, if unseen providence remains, then..."
I closed my eyes, attempting to test another authority in my possession, Cor Leonis.
I found it interesting how everything around me was visually represented; instead of the Shadow Garden being a large, nebulous plane, it turned out to be a starry reality, with various bright points that looked like several constellations joined together in a three-dimensional universe that I could walk through.
"Great, so I can test the others... Huh?"
Even with my eyes closed, I felt my presence with Cor Leonis and another.
Yes, another presence at the location.
I opened my eyes in shock, seeing that I wasn't alone. It was awful to present myself naked to someone, so I covered my private parts and closed my eyes again to see who this presence was. If I remember correctly, the people I can see are mostly those I trust or who trust me; usually enemies are shown as blurs that prevent me from tracing their movements, even though I can tell where they are.
"Who are you?"
Seeking that presence, my heart leaped as I saw her move quickly until… she stopped in front of me.
Opening my eyes again, I faced what would be the non-hostile presence.
"I am you."
The moment froze, and I only analyzed the person's face. Small eyes, long hair, a scruffy beard, and no left arm.
"You...『Subaru Natsuki』"
I couldn't answer correctly. Seeing myself is truly impressive, I've aged so much!
Wait, this isn't the time for this, what's happening? I thought it was time for some old flashback of mine, then some memories started flashing through my head, specifically at the Pleiades Watchtower.
"Yes, I am you. It's annoying to repeat the same scene, but this time it's a completely different context."
"Stop, just stop talking, what's happening, is divine punishment a conversation with myself?!"
"Calm down, it's not that serious. You just need to know that I am you, the same old 『Subaru Natsuki』."
"No, no, this conversation isn't happening again. I'm Subaru Natsuki, are you by any chance my alter ego?"
"Really, we should have something like this; it's what's missing to complete the protagonist package. Will I receive a blessing at the end of my life too? I hope so—"
"Be an OP skill!"
"Be an OP skill!"
"We really are the same person!"
Swinging my arm as I spoke, I put my hand to my face, trying to reason why this was happening.
The last time I had to confront myself was in the Corridor of Memories, where I had to talk to myself for the first time, not just mentally. I had confirmation that my actions were also observed by myself, and that they truly made me a better person for others. It was still difficult to accept that I was a person who deserved this.glazingThat's all true, but I have to get used to it; I'm truly amazing.
"Damn, why are we talking at this exact moment?"
"Why wouldn't 『Subaru Natsuki』 want to have a conversation with himself in his final moments?"
"Very cliché, usually the villain assumes the role of yourself to manipulate the hero... WAIT A MINUTE, IS THAT WHAT'S HAPPENING?!"
"No, I don't think so? I hope not. Yeah, no. I don't want to."
"Same thoughts then... Tell me, what else do you want to talk to me about?"
It's a moment of just me with myself, a conversation without interruptions.
I want to believe that it's not a new villain messing with my head. A conversation with myself in the afterlife is even a little philosophical, not that I think it's the best way to deal with everything in the end, but it's interesting to know that Subaru Natsuki will meet 『Subaru Natsuki』 in his final moments to talk about what he's been through.
I closed my eyes, thinking for a moment about what I should say. I'm facing myself; there should be something more special than seeing my older self talking to the younger version of myself, which, in this case, is me. A little confusing, but it makes sense as a metaphor for the final phase of life.
"Hello? I can't hear your thoughts; thinking for too long might lead to fictional scenarios."
“We don’t share ideas, much less intentions… You’re truly a new 『Subaru Natsuki』.”
"You can call me that, but I'm here for another reason too, I want to make you a proposal."
A proposal? That's new to me. Usually, people just barge into my house without asking permission and immediately throw their proposals out there. Wait, is that me?!
"Man, I'm really being myself..."
Looking up, seeing nothing, I sighed deeply, finally accepting my position. I'm dead, I don't have enough pride to refuse a request while my life is gone, I just have to listen and accept it in the end. If it's something like returning to the world I was in before, I would accept without thinking, even if it's very selfish to leave everything behind and simply return to my parents' world. I'm dead, what can I do?
I wanted at least to talk to them one more time, if possible, to live life in Saitama as I should have lived it. The memories, everything I lived in this world wouldn't disappear, but still, I would carry it all with me until the moment I died as a normal person in a normal world. But still, something inside me said it was a different proposition…
"I know what you're thinking, and yes, I love my parents, but unfortunately, I don't know how to go back."
"Yes, I figured, but I'm still a little sad."
"You can't think too much about coming back, but thinking of them fondly is something that will always remain."
"My parents are amazing, after all. I can't forget them."
"Yes yes…"
We both nodded, then laughed.
"Okay, let me pass on the proposal."
"Come at me with everything you've got, Subaru Natsuki, let me see what else I can do."
Placing his hand on his hip, he, or rather, I myself, looked at me, smiling in the way I'm most accustomed to. This posture truly gives off an absurd sense of confidence; I'm amazing!
"You can still return to the world, but with a difference. It will be the beginning of the beginning."
His words echoed in my mind. I had to put my hand over my ears, but his voice, my voice, still passed through my eardrums, as if echoing inside my head.
"You're going to have to complete a goal for me, for yourself, so that everything continues as it should."
My voice is really menacing when I'm serious, I can feel my heart beating faster.
Still, hearing that I can continue with my life ignited a flame of determination within me. My dark eyes turned to myself… Then, I realized that I was observing myself, looking younger.
"What?!"
Touching my body, I'm wearing the clothes I died in, except for the fatal wound on my chest. My hair, my missing arm, everything is back, as if I've finally become whole again. Still confused, I looked at 『Subaru Natsuki』 (emphasis added), who is naked, looking at me with the same eyes I had when I was younger, the same eyes that still believed I could move mountains with my determination.
His words, the same ones I've heard all my life, continued with the proposal, which resonated in my mind.
“My goal is the same as yours: to live. Therefore, Subaru Natsuki, do what I'm proposing: Go to the world I love so much, and obtain the fragments that certain women hold in their hearts, to complete your own, and then return to where you left off.”
Fragments of the candidates, heart, return? Is that all? Is that all I need to do to get back to where I was?
My death, the authority of envy not working, is already absurd, but now a way to circumvent that and return to where I died using my own actions, that's even more absurd.
Still not believing I could do it, I looked at my youthful-looking self and touched my own chest, feeling the fabric of my clothing with the tear where my heart is positioned.
"How can I go back to the beginning and then back to where I was? That doesn't make sense. Fragments in the heart? Will I have to kill them by any chance? What do you mean by that?!"
"Calm down, calm down, I'll give you the context. You want to bring this up."skip"In everything? This dialogue is mandatory, Subaru Natsuki."
"Then go ahead! What do I have to do? I'll only give my answer after that!"
Even though I'm happy about the possibility of returning, I've started to get angry knowing that what I'm about to do won't have consequences in the future, according to what I myself am saying. It's impossible, it can't be that simple and easy, there has to be some catch. As an avid player of games that has traps, I know there's something hidden in that goal.
It can't be that my reward is that big.
Therefore, it's obvious that the way to obtain it has to be difficult.
"Unfortunately, you're starting in an unfamiliar world, but one that contains elements and people you may recognize walking among these newcomers. You have to make the other four candidates you met in the past fall in love with you, and even kiss them. That's all, and you have the pieces to complete your heart. It's possible to make others fall in love with you too, but that's your decision. Everything will be new, so get ready to explore the world."
THAT'S THE HARD WAY TO GET IT!
"Fall in love? Are you telling me I have to... create a harem?"
"What? Subaru Natsuki has never wished for this at least once? Even if we like monogamy, being surrounded by beautiful people is nice too."
"No more, now I'm older and more aware of the world, I don't want to break people's hearts out of selfishness!"
"So, you reject my proposal?"
“I…”
I closed my mouth.
I couldn't accept such a proposal; it went against who I am, even more so now that I'm older.
Still, the possibility of continuing with the good life I had is a great temptation.
I didn't have biological children, I didn't leave any inheritance in that world other than my actions, so nothing remains of Subaru Natsuki except that. It's nice to be remembered, but I wanted to leave something more. It's not my ultimate goal, actually, but…
Damn, stupid thoughts, what do I do? What do I do, what do I do, what do I do…
"We don't have much time, either. We'd better think about it soon."
"I'm in an afterlife, aren't I? How can there be a time limit?"
"Precisely for that reason. I, 『Subaru Natsuki』, will disappear so that you can continue."
“— — —”
I was speechless; I had to decide what to do now…
I didn't want to betray what I've always pursued, but I don't want to accept an ending like this. The option ofretryIt comes with consequences, but when have I not died and lived with them? It's just more of the same…
No… I can think that way… But what can I do?
I thought about letting it go and seeing what the afterlife would bring, but it was too difficult to accept this ending. I couldn't betray my own heart, my feelings, the emotion of being with the people I love.
Anguish tightened my throat; I tried to answer with "No" and "Yes," but nothing came out. I simply succumbed to weakness. At this moment, I am dead. A dead person doesn't choose, but I had the opportunity to choose.
Placing my hand on my head, I fell to my knees, resting my hand on my leg, as I began to recall moments in this world.
All the people I've known, loved, cared about, and who care about me… I can't be selfish with them too.
My decision…
"...I love everyone very much."
"I know."
"...I don't want to abandon them."
"Yes I know."
"...But... Still..."
“— — —”
Running my hand over my chest, I decided to listen to what my own heart had to say.
I heard the slow beats; I was in a tense situation, but my body remained normal, as if only in that moment could I summon my true will…
"There's also something I want you to do—"
"I... I accept the offer. Let me start over."
May I go through hell, but may I be with them when it's all over.
『Subaru Natsuki』 smiled, seeing my response. A smile that could be terrifying, but which offered a glimmer of hope should I achieve my goal.
With a single clap, the whole world vanished. The shadows that covered this endless landscape vanished, leaving only a white plane, formed by an eternal, endless void.
I blinked repeatedly, my eyes adjusting to the new lighting. That terrain, once hid stars, was now an endless void with nothing, no underlying message; it was merely an alternate plane.
My body also began to feel the change; first I felt weakness in my legs, eventually kneeling on the colorless ground. Then, it felt like an important part of me was being taken away, but I didn't know what.
"What?"
"HOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO, YOU ACCEPTED!"
"What do you mean by that? You offered me the proposal, of course I accepted, 『Subaru Natsuki』!"
This doesn't seem right at all, what's going on? Why is he laughing so much? His laughter irritates me. I don't like it. Did I say something wrong? This isn't the Shadow Garden. Why do I feel so bad? What happened?
"I only needed one opportunity and a few minutes to convince Subaru Natsuki of my plan! How incredible! I really am the smartest! I didn't even need to convince him very much!"
The face of 『Subaru Natsuki』 began to slowly disappear. The white background began to take over my vision, and the face of 『Subaru Natsuki』 began to turn into a white canvas.
An appearance similar to a human, but which resembled nothing. My face went from that of a young man to something trying to look human, like in a painting; its features were quite caricatured, its body quite normal in shape, without hair, without fur, without any color that differentiated it from the white color palette.
"What…"
"If you want to say something, say that this was a mission very easy for me, Subaru Natsuki. One proposal, one Yes, and that's it, you're in my possession."
“— — —”
What did he mean by possession?
"Hmph!"
"Ah! I forgot, changing plans can be a bit complicated for beings that already existed. It's difficult to pull someone who is from a defined plane, as opposed to a simple reincarnation.”
"Reincarnation? A defined plan? You… You are not me…"
"Of course not! You are you, and I am me... Or, how can I introduce myself to you now..."
I didn't want to hear it, I don't want to believe it.
I accepted, of course I accepted, how could I have doubted? His presence, his words, everything made sense in my head, even if I wanted to deny it, I…
Wait.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait…
I accept it very easily, why didn't I think more? I'm the one who always thinks more after I've achieved my goal.
Something's on my mind... My mind... Am I thinking the way I want to?
Placing my hand on my head, I began to feel that some of the feelings I had weren't truly what I felt. An emotion of… Trust. Blind trust.
"What is that…"
I blindly trusted someone again, someone who is always careful. I accepted whose proposal…?!
"You can call me Hitogami! The one who needs your help, Subaru Natsuki, for my special little project in the world I inhabit."
"...Hitogami."
It's not Subaru Natsuki, it's not me, it's not him, what's happening…
I'm dead forever, aren't I? Why is he having so much fun with my cornered situation? What's going on? I should have accepted it, shouldn't I?
"I know your head is a mess after all this, but since I like seeing your expression, I'll say it openly. I just needed to interrupt a little bit his incredible ability to let me have a little chat like a brother from another world."
"Brother from another world?"
"A little white lie! A little joke! A proposal accepted by a mortal with a God! Something that is NOT. REVOCABLE!"
"...Huh? But wait, I don't understand, this is... I..."
Is it a good thing? A bad thing? I'm definitely dead, aren't I?
Trust… I truly trusted my own words for a few good minutes. I accepted his proposal to try and retrieve these strange fragments, and now, he's amusing himself with my confusion, calling himself Hitogami, some kind of God from another world…
Looking around at the blank canvas, I tried to find some further answers. I closed my eyes after seeing nothing, and searched using Cor Leonis to—
I don't see anyone else but myself.
“Wait…”
“No, I don’t expect it, I’ve already said enough, little Subaru Natsuki. I quite like your name, it sticks in my head nicely… Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have other people to talk to…”
"Calm down, calm down, what am I going to do? What have I done?! WHAT HAVE I DONE, DAMN IT?!"
Trying to get up, I fell to my knees again, bracing myself on the ground before hitting my head. I looked up, my expression confused, but also containing a slight hint of anger. Why did he do this? I don't understand. I trusted him… Could it be… Is that it, trust?
Did I... Do I do something wrong?
"You're an intelligent person, Subaru Natsuki. I've explored your mind a bit, and upon closer inspection, you're quite a bright and profound young adult! Enduring death, who would have thought we could come back from the dead! You're amazing!"
"No... Don't talk about me like that."
"He killed the archbishops, even those who could have been his friends, regrets some of his decisions, and is saddened by the stories of some witches. You REALLY are the good guy in the story. Hey, hey, how about I call you BIG BRO? You look like the Big Bro to a lot of people!"
Felt used to call me that, not anymore… I don't want to hear his voice or see his face when he says it, I feel sick, I want to vomit but I can't. I touch my stomach with my hand, the pain of his words, the fact that I accepted something, that I lost something. I no longer feel the authority, what is happening…
"I didn't mention my little request, did I? Well then..."Meet a certain person, and…”
His smile widened to the point where his cheeks cracked. No blood came out, no sound, just the caricature of a white face with blank expressions trying to look evil… And he succeeded.
I felt the sweat trickling down my body, the same sweat I always felt, a bad feeling that I had done something much, much worse than I thought. The worst thing I thought of were the two options: creating a harem that I don't want, or abandoning the people I love out of selfishness, and now… What remained was a bitter and cruel response for Subaru Natsuki.
The voice of that being, Hitogami, why did he do this to me? Satella, if you can hear my prayers, please appear.
I just want to hear your voice, I never thought I'd beg you to save me again, but here I am, unconsciously begging you to save me… Then I remembered a phrase.
"Leave him—"
"I RETURN BY DEATH!"
Screaming loud enough to empty my lungs, I let the last part of my speech echo in my throat; the high-pitched, hopeful tone hurt my ears, and caused me to fall prostrate again, too weak to gasp for air.
Still, I felt something touch my leg, then it passed over my thigh, then my stomach, and finally, it caressed my heart as if it were something precious… But his hand squeezed tightly, almost killing me instantly. It was then that I realized that time had frozen again, and Hitogami's face, the same one that had been smiling because I had accepted his proposal, kept its mouth open in a frightened expression. Perhaps he didn't imagine that I would use a card like that, something I myself don't like, but this time, I must say I don't mind having my heart ached.
"WAIT A MINUTE, I GOT EVERYTHING! NO ONE CAN GET HERE—!"
The world I was in began to crack, or rather, in my vision, I was disappearing. Hitogami began waving his hands as he tried to ward off a shadow that began to devour the place, his domain, while I merely watched from afar, seeing how powerful Satella's love for me was.
"Even if you do this to me, SUBARU NATSUKI. Understand that you accepted my proposal! You NEED to take those fragments, otherwise, YOUR LIFE IS MINE!"
Touching my chest, my heart began to stabilize after the tightness. As a final act, I pointed at Hitogami, something I'd done countless times before, and that I wouldn't give up on again, showing my determination in a warning:
"I'll be back to get you, you bastard."
A beautiful phrase.
"Damn you, Subaru Natsuki, I'm going to make your life a—"
Before I could hear, I fell beyond the edge of the ground, simply into the void.
His dominion could not tolerate my existence, nor Satella's, causing me to be the first to be cast far away, precisely to the world where he holds power.
First, I felt my mind drift away from my body, and then I woke up with the bright sunlight tearing through my vision.
Feeling something strange on my face, I began to touch my own body, checking if anything was missing.
Damn, what is it this time…
Touching more than I should have, I felt the presence of something that shouldn't be there... My left arm.
Opening my eyes wide after the fear subsided, I was blinded by the sunlight. Reflexively covering them with my left hand, I spent some time observing what I had regained after escaping Hitogami's control. Not only that, but I also began to touch my body, feeling a fabric I hadn't worn in a long time.
"My tracksuit..."
Touching the rest of my body, I began to notice some differences from the clothes I normally own. It wasn't the same old equestrian outfit I usually wear; it was simply my old tracksuit, the same one I wore at home. Furthermore, my body seemed less athletic than usual, younger, as if I had just stepped out of a convenience store. It's a little funny to think that everything really went back to square one just by starting in a new world from scratch.
However, a strange sensation in his fingers and the sound of packaging falling brought him fully awake to the present moment:
"The convenience store bag. It's truly a forced summoning to another world."
I didn't say anything so grandiose. After I accepted Hitogami's proposal, something in my stomach started to churn. I don't consider myself someone who holds grudges, but this person was on the same level as an archbishop of sin, someone who doesn't deserve to live, worthy of divine punishment, even if he is a God in this world, as he himself said, may this wretch be caught by the judgment of the gods and end up in an incredible prison!
But let's see what we have here. I'm no longer in the actual capital, that's already a change. I feel like I'm far from any big city, that's another point too.
Although I observed the sky to calculate how much time is left until nightfall, I'd say I'm right at the peak of the day, nothing exact. Looking around, I searched for any kind of civilization—and there it was, in a few seconds I spotted houses and kettles running. It doesn't seem to be winter, so they must be… baking some food.
Instead of being summoned to the middle of the royal capital without understanding anything of the language or the surrounding culture, now I've been summoned to the middle of nowhere, understanding nothing, and without even knowing if the culture is the same… But, observing the little houses around me more closely, I must say that I'm in a village, with a cluster of people living at a considerable distance, each with their own plot of land. So, considering all this, I already consider that I'm living in a moment similar to the medieval age, where everyone takes care of their own life. Considering what that idiot Hitogami said, it seems that this world must be special. I don't think it would be so easy to contact God in a normal world like mine.
"What am I doing? It's still morning in this world. I should hurry and find somewhere to stay."
Telling myself to start in this new world, I picked up my shopping bag and looked around. Realizing I'd begun my journey sprawled on the grass, my clothes were anything but clean for an average villager, let alone any clothes appropriate for this time of year. If I'm wrong and I'm simply in some random location in Europe, I want to see my parents again, but I doubt that's the case…
I won't deny it, I'd at least like to have my old equipment back…
Looking down at my waist, my Guiltywhip has vanished, along with the short sword I obtained as a knight. Now in my hands, I hold a shopping bag and a flip phone, not a pleasant start for a summoned being.
Looking back now, it's almost nostalgic to think that, one day, in that world where I gained so much, I was in a position to discover everything, until I was brutally murdered and began the journey to save Emilia…
“Emilia…”
Saying her name causes a pang in my heart. I won't forget anything about her—her smile, her voice, her hair, even her scent. I won't forget!
"This is just a phase, Subaru. You're Kenichi's son, you never give up!"
Tapping my foot on the ground, I decided to move on to the house I found most interesting. There doesn't seem to be a large walled city nearby, so I have to start from the bottom, which is why I began by exercising and walking slowly so as not to tire myself out. I need to conserve energy in case everything goes wrong.
The houses were simple, often made of reinforced wood and rubble. I didn't see any houses made with more modern materials; they were truly standard medieval constructions, where only the family did manual labor to have a place to live. I would only have the courage to do that if it were to create the perfect house for Emilia-tan. A huge mansion for her!
Continuing on, I looked across the yellow wheat fields until I reached the path where carts probably pass. Using my excellent knowledge of medieval worlds, it seems to be a transit point between two cities, probably a village at the intersection of two large locations. If so, I can seize the opportunity and move to a big city, starting from scratch and putting my knowledge into practice. Perhaps they have some kind of system similar to Lagmite stones that could generate something akin to electricity.
If I think too big, I'll end up hitting the clouds like that.
After swinging my shopping bag beside me as I walked along the dirt path, I encountered the first person I could speak to.
First, I spotted what appeared to be a simple cart, with a horse in front, quite normal for a medieval world. Looking at what interested me, I tried to find out who was driving it.
A woman of youthful appearance. She seemed to be in her thirties and wore clothes similar to those of an old-fashioned maid, without luxurious details, just a black garment with white pieces, exactly like a...maid. She was perfect for asking for information. Her hair had a color that set her apart from the average Japanese person, and her violet eyes were hidden behind oval glasses. As a first impression, I must say that this world also has beautiful women, but nothing compares to the beauty of Emilia, as well as Rem's.
I can't waste any time...!
Walking closer, I stopped right beside the trail, raising my arm to signal a request.
The woman seemed focused on her task, but decided to stop her horse, looking at me with her large violet eyes. It's a beautiful color, really, but nothing surpasses the vivid purple I've always seen… Enough, then glazing it's too much even for me.
Waving my hand in a friendly manner, I started a conversation.
“My name is Subaru Natsuki! I’m looking for a place to stay, a guesthouse, or any useful information about a big city. As you can see, I’m penniless, broke, and I need a quick, financially rewarding job so I don’t die! So, I’d be happy to receive any information!”
After introducing myself, I quickly asked a question to avoid extra conversation. I'm rushing things to avoid problems later, especially when night falls.
Looking at the woman, she seemed a little confused about what I'd said, so I tried again:
"I'm just looking for a place to stay, nothing more. Any help would be appreciated, Miss!"
Again, the woman looked around, confused. Scratching her head slightly, her composure suggested she hadn't understood ANYTHING I said. I even thought she might be deaf, or that she didn't have vocal cords, but as soon as she opened her mouth, I… I didn't understand a thing she said.
The woman started speaking in a language I didn't know, and that automatically put me in a terrible predicament… I don't know the language of this world, so I'm okay, but really at rock bottom.
No way, I'm going to have to learn a new language? Again? Even Japanese doesn't work here?
I tried to communicate in another way, making a house sign with my hands, and miming going inside, eating, and finding out information by tapping my finger on my head.
The woman, again, didn't seem to understand, and as the situation had already become awkward, she gestured for me to come closer. Having no other options, I got close enough for her to point to the seat next to her. It seems she's also decided to deal with me differently: Instead of abandoning me, she's going to take me somewhere to stay! Do I really look like a dying man with this appearance? How sad, I wonder what Otto would do in this situation.
"You're inviting me? Great, a maid who doesn't try to kill me right away!"
Even if she doesn't understand me, my expressions speak for themselves. Her smile appeared instantly; perhaps she has plans for me. I just hope she doesn't harvest my organs for some terrible experiment! I don't want to die so soon!
To die…?
When I sat down next to the woman, I started thinking about the possibility of… me no longer having RbD, and that made me slightly insecure about how I should proceed with people. Everything was always hostile towards me, so I was always careful, but how dangerous is this world for me to worry more or less than enough?
The woman beside me seemed to notice my distressed face and appeared to be trying to communicate with me, but her interest quickly shifted to what I was wearing and the plastic bag. Her violet eyes turned to the bag, and she pointed, questioning in her language. Obviously, I didn't understand what she said, but I slowly began to adapt to the words coming from her mouth.
As I showed her the contents of the bag, which she leaned against to observe and raise a curious eyebrow, I tried to understand her language. It didn't sound like Japanese, much less any common language I remember; if I could say so, it was as if I were trying to learn Latin, which I know very little of.
"If you can't understand, I can use mime for you."
As I speak, I move my hands, as if trying to communicate with her, but it doesn't seem to have worked. Then, after she observed what I was wearing and had, I simply looked ahead and waited for her to reach her destination, which luckily didn't take long.
Unfortunately, we almost got caught in a heavy rain, but it passed quickly in one part of the field. This world is truly strange…
The trip was boring and uneventful; I couldn't talk to anyone, so I just sat quietly observing the tranquil scenery. Stopping in front of a house that, I must say, was much more organized than the others I passed, it seemed to belong to an interesting family, above average compared to others in the region, especially since it had a maid…
When she arrived, the woman got out and untied the horse, walking over to the load she picked up. It looked like delicacies, using barrels to store food or something to preserve it, besides wheat, lots of wheat. Apparently, trade is quite strong locally, and long journeys are only for local merchants close to each other. I wonder if, as in medieval times, tax collectors must come to keep the collection up to date…
Oh, of course, I need to help too!
Putting my bag aside, I quickly jumped over to the woman's side. She seemed surprised that I had arrived, and reacted by waving her hand as if to say she didn't need help, but I insisted with a smile, picking up the barrel in front of her— What a weight! How does she carry that?!
Unfortunately, my body is weaker than usual, so a regular barrel was a struggle to put down outside the carriage, whereas for the woman, she lifted it, slightly swayed her dress, and climbed down without a problem. I must say, these worlds are truly incredible…
She said something to me, but realizing it was impossible to communicate, she shouted what sounded like someone's name; this much I understand: Paul.
It's a common name in my world, not in Japan, but in the West, so I should learn everything quickly if it's as I'm thinking.
I wonder if I'm just deluding myself and I'm still in the world I've always been in, but I've never had problems with the language, only with reading.
Leaning against the barrel, I waited for whoever the maid called, only for a man to appear, also youthful in appearance, with blond hair, eyes as green as grass, and a short strand of hair tied back. At his waist, a sword, dressed in clothes similar to those of a retired warrior. I must assume he was certainly a swordsman in the past, and that now he is simply resting. A true retirement even in his thirties!
"Do you even understand me? Damn, it seems not."
He approached, raising his hand as if to greet me, but my words confused him. This was truly awful; I'll have to learn everything from scratch.
The woman and theThe men started talking, while he pointed at me and seemed quite curious about what I was wearing and carrying, as well as pointing in a certain direction. They probably think I'm lost, which I really am! The conversation between them didn't last long, after all another woman appeared.
As I said before, beauty truly reigns supreme in these worlds. A blonde woman with blue hair and a voluptuous figure, slightly less grand than the maid, but still exuding the air of a beautiful peasant woman from centuries past. She seemed preoccupied with something before seeing what happened.
Hey, I feel like an animal on display…
Now, the three of them seemed to be discussing what to do about me.
The word "Millis" came up quite a bit from that woman, who, judging by the conversation and repetition of words, seemed to be called Zenith, while the maid's name sounded something like Lilia. Quite different names from each other; I fear that language is also quite culturally relevant. I wonder if it's universal or not…
After their argument, the woman—Zenith—seemed to be scolding Paul. Did he think about throwing me away from his house? Oh, don't think like that, I don't want to be thrown! Although, in my first days at the mansion, Rem wasn't very fond of me, but I can't blame her…
Lilia seemed to abstain from the discussion, even though she was the one who brought me here. Zenith pointed at Paul and then crossed her arms. The man opened his mouth, but nothing came out, as if he had accepted defeat. Take that, man of the house, that's how women of the house deal with their dogs. Woof!
Wait, she's getting closer.
Zenith stopped right in front of me and said something in his language. His gaze seemed to expect a response, so I delivered:
"I don't understand the language. I'm illiterate. I need HELP!"
It seems they didn't understand what I said either. What a mess, just give me a textbook and I'll learn on my own—
“A-ah!”
Startled, the woman took my hand and shook it gently. Her gaze seemed worried, the same look a mother gives to her child. I felt welcomed, even though I don't understand anything they're saying. I doubt writing will be of any use either, but nothing that will stop me from starting my new life from scratch in this other world.
She really didn't know how to deal with me; her expression alone said it all. Paul, standing next to her, seemed to agree with my inner opinion. There's nothing to be done about me, but Zenith again said some words I didn't understand, and left her probable husband alone.
Looking at Lilia, she asked something and— AH! This isn't going anywhere, I have to learn on my own, so I'll say goodbye and continue along the trail…
“...Huh?”
Hearing a higher-pitched voice coming from the entrance, where there were only a few separate stones forming a wall, I saw two people. First, a small girl, similar in height to Petra when she was younger, wearing a large hat, with striking blue eyes and hair, and, obviously most importantly, a huge staff in her hands.
A world of magic, so not much has changed.
Unfortunately, my attempts to use magic were only possible with Beatrice by my side. Without her, my constantly broken mana gate would leak out what I had, and cause me to die from… Wait, if I returned to my original body, then I shouldn't have any problems with that, right?
Still lost in thought, I sighed with confidence, pushing aside one of the problems that could have hindered me. Now, returning to the girl, I must say that she is...yourselfIf we're judging simple NPC characters in a story by their hair color, she must be involved with Water or Wind magic. If she's a bit more advanced, perhaps closer to Ice, similar to what Rem did, but I can't say much just by observing. Her clothes are quite different from other people's; she really seems to know what she's doing. I'll consider her an average mage based on her youthful appearance. Maybe she's younger or around my age, which is perfect! If she knows Japanese, even better!
Now, next to her, let's see, a small child, maybe six years old at most, blond hair, green eyes, obviously the children of the two behind me. He has a wand in his hands, and seems to be a little wizard too… Incredible! INCREDIBLE! Even children can be wizards?!
"Cool, maybe I can do something cool like that too."
I let my thoughts slip out, but it's okay, nobody understands me.
I just found it strange that the little boy stared at me for quite a while, worrying the girl next to him. Could they be school friends? She doesn't seem to be in the same class as him; could she just be an acquaintance? Or an instructor…?
"...Japan... Japanese."
“Hm?”
My eyes widened, the boy said something that…
Wait, Japanese?
He pointed at me, mainly at my clothes, and when his green eyes swept over my plastic bag, he looked like he was seeing a ghost. He quickly approached his parents and, speaking very fast, seemed to be saying something, like a warning. Did I do something wrong? Don't tell me we're in a world where the Japanese have been eradicated?!
After speaking, his parents seemed thoughtful, while the girl behind him blinked repeatedly.
Should I really be here? I feel like I'm getting in the way.
"I'm leaving, don't worry. I won't be a bother."
"Wait."
My ears perked up at the sound of my own language. Looking back at the family, I searched for who had said those words, only for my eyes to fall on the blond boy, still gripping his wand tightly. Had he accidentally spoken the word I know, or did he actually know it…
"Are you... lost?"
No, he really does know my language. Is Japanese an unofficial language in some places? Incredible, even a child knows something like that, but their parents don't.
His eyes trembled as he looked at me. I know I have a delinquent-looking face, and my strange clothes don't help in gaining intimacy with anyone, but do I even scare children?
"Lost? Yes, I am, very much so. I started a game and put it in the wrong language! Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Pointing at me, the child seemed increasingly surprised.
The girl next to him tried to call him; apparently his name is Rudy, or something like that. He immediately looked at her and started speaking in this strange language. It seemed he was explaining who I was, or what problem I had.
Children are really smart in this world…
"Listen... Young man, I can help you, but first I need to know... Your name, where you're from, what you're looking for here?"
Hearing him speak my language so easily again, I smiled. Placing my hand on my chest, I considered introducing myself as a knight, but then I thought of having a nostalgic introduction:
"My name is Subaru Natsuki!"
Raising my hand upwards, I pointed high and bent my waist in a classic pose of party disco which I found interesting.
"Son of Kenichi Natsuki! I'm currently unemployed and trying to find a way to support myself! Don't go easy on me, I can handle it. Where I come from, the strong are rewarded after hard battles! So, I'm just asking for a little help to start my journey!"
After my excellent presentation, Rudy just stared at me for a few seconds and, lowering his head, he let out a weak laugh. I didn't mind, actually, I smiled along with him while I waited for his response.
This is very serious. Serious, far too serious.
I finally managed to leave home. I thought I'd be just another reclusive child, kept by my parents until adulthood, learning on my own when Paul threw me out, kicking my ass, and telling me to figure out my own life. But no, that didn't happen. I learned earlier that I don't need to be afraid of anyone in this new life. My reincarnation didn't bring anything from my past life into this one, except for my mind and knowledge.
Sure, I have to brag a little about being able to accomplish things that older people can, all thanks to my more advanced adult mind compared to most of those around me, but I have to give Roxy all the thanks. I never imagined that in my afterlife, I would be taught by a little beauty.yourselfShyly, it seems that some of my dreams were actually fulfilled when I died.
After returning from my official Water Magic mastery course at the Saint level, I thought about studying more about how to perform these spells in a different way. This world truly has a simple system, yet it's complex if you want to modify the magic entirely. Luckily for me, with my old knowledge, I can modify these spells by adding calculations or thoughts that might not even exist in this world. It really is a...cheatIt's about reincarnation, but there's no one to say the game can't be played that way.
Returning with Roxy on horseback, I dismounted with her help, preparing to show my parents the incredible son they have, but something seemed to appear first to spoil my grand arrival.
Hey, listen here, your son is now a Saint!
As I approached, a strange young man in black clothes was talking to my family. Could he be some kind of merchant trying to sell a strange object? If he knew the magic to dissolve clothes, I would buy them all— Wait.
Passing by the entrance of my house, I looked at her black hair, her ordinary clothes for someone smuggled indoors, and eyes that could only come from one place.
Japan. A… Japanese person?
It's been so long since I last remembered my homeland. Aside from past traumas, there was nothing I brought with me from that place except a basic understanding of the modern world. This person in front of me was the very definition of Japan's existence.
If I dropped my wand from my hands, the shock was enough to make the pressure rise. My small legs managed to support the swaying of my body, while the past began to come back to hunt me.
But no, I couldn't think that way, I don't even know if he's really from there, but everything indicates that he is. I doubt anyone would have the modern capabilities to create clothes like that, something that only existed in my past life.
His clothes were similar to mine when I was a recluse at home, but his confident gaze shattered any past comparison with me; he's ten times better than me, even in looks. Damn, young men are really handsome when they're well-groomed, but his eyes are terrifying. Terrifying! He looks quite tired; I'd say that instead of reincarnating, he came straight from a summoning. Are people from other worlds really that common? I need to hide so as not to reveal that I come from another life; it could be dangerous!
"Japanese."
Oops, I let slip what I was thinking; having a child's body makes keeping secrets very difficult. At that age, nobody could hide what they wanted from their mother; Zenith herself was a pro at finding out what I was hiding, but there was something she didn't know…WaitOh my god, what am I thinking? There's a Japanese guy in front of me! Oh, God of this world, do you want me to have a companion or helper? It would be better to have someone close to my age, not someone already grown up. I, who am old, feel like the youngest here!
His wide eyes tell me everything; he really did come from Japan. Damn, I see I'm at an impasse between telling Paul to kick his ass and cut off any connection I had with my past life, or helping the poor guy who doesn't even know the language of this world.
I almost lost my composure thinking about what I could do, so I sought help from the person I trust most in this world, Roxy.
Looking at Roxy, she also seemed surprised to see him, but nothing beyond the realm of stranger. She also seemed interested in his clothes. That's right, Mistress Roxy, look how great convict's clothes are, wear them for as many days as you like, they never go bad!
Still, it didn't take me long to think about what I would do. Right after learning so much about this world, it also gave me something I want to leave with others: that there are people capable of helping because they want to. Perhaps it's the famous "empathy begets empathy," and with Master Roxy's kindness, I need to pass that kindness on to someone else, starting with this strange boy. I must say that, being older than him, I'm practically his senpai too. Damn, that really fills me with a feeling of superiority. Look, I came into this world and I'm still dominating it as a child of only six years old!
Okay, I've decided. I'm going to help him. I want to see how far this little teenager goes. I want to see him grow up and become a great person in the future, nothing more than appreciating the immense potential of human beings.Go, joker!
After the boy said those words in Japanese, I started to get excited to see what this world could offer me. Maybe starting with a good conversation without ending up dead at the hands of a gut-hunting assassin will help me like this world faster than my previous one.
No, it's impossible, and I would never stop loving the people who live there, especially knowing that they are still well, even though I'm not with them there. The factor of starting life in another world, from scratch, but now truly in another world again, I must say that my start is much better than before.
I wonder if I brought anything with me besides the legendary starting equipment I lost on the first day, but even if I try to search within myself, it doesn't seem like the authorities have stayed with me. I wonder where they went…
"You're in a very difficult situation, Natsuki-san. But don't worry, I know what to do. Just know that you can pay off this debt later!"
A smile appeared, and then words in Japanese escaped his lips. Wow, I've already started backward in terms of being a prodigy. Does this world have something more in store for me?
Remaining quiet, I leaned against the carriage, looking at the people who would be his family; they seemed quite confused by our conversation.
"Let me talk to my parents first, I had a great idea..."
So, the boy, only six years old, initiated a small meeting with his own parents. Even though the man, Paul, seemed not to believe his words, Zenith, on the other hand, seemed to repeat the word Millis again, while clasping his hands in a smile, and ended by hugging Rudy tightly, who returned the hug.
After that, he turned to me, translating their conversation:
“You’re young, so you can certainly help around the house with whatever you can! Maybe even in a position below Lilia, I just don’t know where you could sleep— But know that my mother insisted on helping you, a dying homeless person, so that at least you wouldn’t leave our property like a lost dog!”
His words are echoing in my head; he really insulted me in several different ways to say that I am afuckedThank you, child!
And to think that the beginning of Subaru Natsuki would be like this…
"So, you're going to help me. Thank you so much. Could you translate this for your mother?"
“Zenith, call her Lady Zenith. And by the way… call me Rudeus. Rudeus Greyrat!”
Her small hand reached out to me. I'm not used to shaking children's hands, but as a thank you, I simply ran my hand over her mouth, feeling her light brown hair between my fingers.
"Rudeus. Rudy, I understand, I understand... Truly, this world knows how to welcome some people. Thank you!"
I had to thank that little child for everything.
It was strange to think that I had returned to my old body, without my abilities, with an older mind, and in a position below that of a child of six years old at most, but that's how fantasy worlds are, they are old but quite new in some concepts.
I couldn't just sit by the window and expect everything to be handed to me on a silver platter. Nothing is easy in Subaru Natsuki's life. I had to conquer this world through sheer grit, pure fighting and struggle, and if I have to lower myself to the level of a child, so be it. I'm not proud enough to dwell on such matters.
My goal is simply to return to the world I belong in, and I intend not to disrupt this one I'm in, which only serves as a crutch for my return. I will live like the great Natsuki I should!
I hope my knowledge of Isekai helps this time; before, I was just a random pick-up artist, and I hope I don't repeat the same beginning!
I thought, as I watched Rudeus translate what I said to his mother. Zenith looked at me and then at him, saying something in her language, smiling at me at the end. Did she accept?
"You are truly lucky, thank the Millis church for everything, Natsuki-san."
"Millis? So that's what she was saying..."
First piece of information: church. So this place really reflects an ordinary world, but it must be difficult to escape the usual "human normal" in any world I go to. I already know all this in advance, at least. I hope there are other tips that will help me get used to this world.
The truth is, I need to act like a teenager so as not to arouse suspicion; it's hard to be as naive as I used to be while my mind is constantly working!
"So, what happened? Did your parents agree? What was the proposal again?"
"Simple, you'll live with us near the stables. Since my mother wants you to at least know where you are when you leave here, I'll help you with the language! Of course, you won't live here for free; you'll have to help Lilia and me with anything we ask. You'll be our doormat!"
"Did I become a servant? Well, it's not like that's anything new to me..."
It reminded me of the beginning of the week at the mansion. It was only for a short time that I trained enough to be a butler, but I'm glad that also applies in another world. Thank you, Rem, Ram!
"Just that?"
"...Uh, is there a problem?"
"No, no. I just thought it would be more difficult, all of this was accepted too easily, are you angels?!"
The child made a surprised expression, while chuckling softly.
He's really smart, I can't be outdone by a child!
"I'll help you, but first, I need to do something with my family."
Pointing with his wand, he waved it between his fingers. He must have learned some amazing magic at this age and wants to show his parents, how cool.
Well, realizing it was an interaction where I didn't have any dialogue, I stepped away and approached the carriage, looking at Lilia, who had stared at me throughout the conversation, only to look away when this happened. Am I really that flashy? I need new clothes and a new look…
Realizing I might be getting in the way, I walked a little way off to observe the yellow fields of this village. Truly, I'm in another world, the same Subaru Natsuki who just left the convenience store.
I still remember everyone, and I also remember the person who tricked me into coming here.
It's true, I can NEVER forget his name, much less his expressionless face. I don't consider this world disposable because he inhabits it, but rather that it's held hostage by an entity that shouldn't even be at the top of this world.
I can't do anything right now. Initially, Subaru Natsuki will do things the Natsuki way: kick down the front door and walk in with just an introduction. I'll take care of the rest.I discoverThat's how this family functions.
I heard voices behind me, it seems they're having fun with what Rudeus has learned... Cool, I feel like a stranger enjoying someone else's happiness.
I hope I can achieve that same happiness.
Then I heard shouting, it sounds like they're arguing about something. If it were me, know that I wouldn't hold back when it comes to exploding my lungs in a shouting match... But it doesn't seem to be.
I waited and waited until it was my moment…
Looking down, I saw the sun beginning to set on the other side, showing that time had passed more quickly than I thought. I snapped back to reality when I heard my name being called:
"Natsuki-san! Come here!"
I went back to see what the reason was, only to find Paul staring at me with serious eyes. It seems the topic has finally come back to me. The girl with blue hair disappeared in the meantime; I don't know what happened, but it seems she returned home. If she lives in this area, I plan to meet her too.
People seemed sadder, maybe it was a farewell? Damn. I appeared At a terrible time, I don't want to disrupt these people's memories like an intruder.
Although, that's how I am in this world, a random intruder.
Paul said something in his language, but realizing I didn't understand, he simply extended his hand in a simple handshake.
I looked at that and then turned my eyes to Rudeus, who quickly translated. He also seemed quite sad, but looking at me made him return to his normal posture. A child that age already understands complex feelings and important moments; what an incredible upbringing she had.
“Paul said that now, with an extra room in the house, you can work here, receiving food and instruction as compensation. But you'll have to work harder than Lilia because you're a grown man.”
I've imagined something like this before; in this world, I should be considered an adult. It surprises me that they still accept a grown man like me, especially when I don't even understand what they're saying. Really, these people are very kind to me; I should thank Rudeus for knowing my language… which, by the way, I'll ask him how he knows.
"If I don't cause trouble, then I accept!"
I extended my hand and shook Paul's, feeling the strength of his arm immediately. It was a handshake between men, so strength had to be involved.
After finalizing my hiring/assistance at this company, I felt like everything happened very quickly. Could it be that I'm just not used to moments like this?
"That's right, you'll have to call me sensei!"
So, officially, Subaru Natsuki became a summoned being from another world, for the second time, on a mission to return to his former world.

Elsewhere, a man walks alone. His yellow eyes, more powerful than ordinary magic, sensed a new pressure emanating from a certain area. The jolt was enough to make him stop everything he was doing and observe, as if he knew exactly what had happened, in a particular direction. The roots of his powers traced near his eyes, as he seemed surprised by the change.
"Anomaly."
The words left his mouth. His expression didn't change for a moment, but he seemed surprised by the emergence of something he hadn't expected.
Changing course, he decided to follow a different path, even abandoning what he was doing. It seems that he wouldn't be going in the same direction as the change, but rather to a strategic location that could work in the future.
"Any problem? Don't tell anyone that someone caught the Dragon God's attention."
The woman's voice made the man look at her.
"Save your energy for walking. You can't even walk for an hour."
"Don't say that to a lady, Orsted. You should carry me the whole trip, but you're a brute who hates women."
The woman with white hair and pale skin shook her head. She wore comfortable black clothes to withstand the cold, while she looked quite weak, exactly as the man had said.
"Echidna, I'm taking you on my journey because you're helpful, and also because you know so much about what I ask for help with. Don't complicate things more than necessary."
Orsted, with white hair, deep sanpaku eyes, and an imposing presence, always wears large clothes that conceal his true body and Dragon God scars.
The two became a duo a long time ago, all caused by the merging of two worlds into one.
It was time for him to plan how to kill a certain person, and Subaru Natsuki enters this story with his power, still hidden even from himself, of Return by Death.
