   Summary

   "Ava, you promised," Grace was crying; he was devastated. They promised that if he stopped pursuing a doctorate and became a teacher, they would not punish him. Ava promised him that she would keep him safe, that he was safe here with his kids, so why was he being sent to die?

   A whimpered escaped him; his scent was letting his feelings be known, truly screaming that he felt betrayed, scared, and not safe.

   "I know, I'm sorry," she whispered, letting her scent slip for the first time, and he was overwhelmed by it; it was screaming to him that she felt scared.

   "Please, Ava, please." The door was being opened with brutal force, fear crawled into his bones, and before he could be imperiled, he heard her.

   "Run."
