Belos coughed immediately in response, as if that had set something off. He hid half his face behind one of his arms, but Luz’s eyes were trained for things like this.
That right there was a giant blush spreading over his face. The great Emperor Belos, ruler of the Boiling Isles, strongest witch around, was embarrassed.
When Luz gets stuck in Emperor Belos' head, she begins to realize that he isn't as much of a monster as he seems to be. There are still traces of humanity left in him.
