Cass could swear that if it weren’t for the tight pull of her bodice as it was bieng fastened she would of thought all of this to be a dream, she was standing infront of a Large mirror wearing a gown and jewellery she’s sure cost more than she’d ever see in her life, with half of her hair braided down her back and makeup that made her feel grown. Her wedding day, something that she has anticipated her whole life was finally here, and she was about to marry the man of her dreams who would love her for the rest of her life.
To think they’d only met a couple of months ago, it felt like only yesterday he approached her as she was attending to duties at her ladies debut party. She remembered how he had been drawn to her, gazing at cass like she was the most tantalising girl he’d ever seen. At the time she couldn’t believe anyone of the ton would be interested in a ladies maid let alone cass, but he had spent months courting her and gaining blessings to marry cass as soon as possible, all of that leading to this moment.
Cass was pulled from her thoughts as a maid fixed a long flowing veil to her hair before informing her that she was ready, taking the bouquet from the side table cass took in her appearance. And wow. gone was the small girl she usually saw reflected back at her through the glass, what stood there now was a beautiful young lady about to have everything a woman could ever want. Despite her prior warnings of superstitions cass couldn’t wait anymore, she had to go see her fiancé to let him see this new her before the world behind the church doors did. Making her way down the back hallways of the chapel cass couldn’t help but start to feel unnerved. Surely there should be more staff back here…..
she was however put at ease by the sound of her loves voice behind the door to the room he was getting ready In, however she was instantly stilled by the sound of another man she couldn’t recognise talking to him.
“ this is risky, surely you know this I mean people will notice –“
The newcomer was cut of by her fiancés cocky tone
“ hardly, as long as she Is see in public for the first couple months the ton will surely forget about her I mean she’s a lady’s maid.”
The blood drained from cass’s face as she unconsciously stepped away from the door.
They were talking about her.
Her fiancé continued “ look this is the opportunity of a lifetime, I get to keep my very own blood supply and do whatever I want with it”
“ still we — consulted — sire. Sco— would know what — do. An d —u get to ke — little blood si —-“
Cass couldn’t focus on the conversation anymore. Blood supply ? What where they gunna do to her. She didn’t want to know. She spun around bolting down the hallway past the rooms of presents from both her guests and fiancé, she needed to get out of there now, she can not- no she will not Marry that man. She could feel the heels of her shoes start to bleed from where they rubbed on her pumps staining her pure white shoes and the bottom of her dress red. she ran with the front of her dress bunched up in her hands and veil flying wildly behind her as she approached large ornate wooden doors at the end of the corridor.
Without a moments notice she burst through the doors franticly surveying the sea of faces looking at her with worry. She didn’t care, she was getting out of there, she continued to sprint down the aisle towards the exit. arms lurched to grab her to no avail, she just kept running through the doors to the cool morning air, past the ornate carriage she was supposed to ride into her happily ever after in and kept going down the dirt path away from the building, away from her fiancé, her friends, her family, the future she though she was going to have, and the fate she couldn’t accept.
Eventually cass’s legs tired and she had to cease her running, looking around she found herself in the forest on the outskirts of the city, the sky Turing a deep shade of orange. how long had she been running, not long enough she supplied as she heard a twig brake behind her. Turing around she was met with a tall gentleman who had unnaturally pale skin, blue hair and a look that seemed as if cass had personally disappointed him.
“ all this trouble for you, what a waste.” He tsked sizing her up as something frantic took over his gaze.
And in that moment cass knew, fate was a cruel thing that you could never quite escape from the grasp of. This is how she would end, at least she thought, this seems like a better end than what could have been.
“ this isn’t personal.” The gentleman spoke, “I just have to put an end to the Childe’s silly obsession before he makes me look bad infront of the council. I’ll try to make it as painless as possible.”
Now cas would like to say she though of some noble final words, or that she took her death with dignity, but she didn’t want her final moments to be dishonest. when the stranger forced his teeth through the skin of her neck she uselessly flailed, kicking and grabbing as if hoping to catch hold of her final breath that she had wasted screeching for a saviour who wasn’t listening.
The next day there was no gossip of the newly weds nuptials but instead of the insanity that had possessed the bride,
the screaming from the woods
And the tragic case of Cassandra gale.
