Summary:

"How did you even manage this?"

"Guy punched me." Kai's voice was thick, slightly muffled by the tissues and blood still pouring from his nose.

"I gathered that Kai," Nya wasn't even surprised. Kai had come home plenty of times when they were younger with various fight injuries, sometimes for justified reasons, sometimes not.

Work Text:

Nya shoved the tissues against her brother's face, stemming the steady flow of blood from his nose. He'd walked into the Bounty's kitchen, a hand under his nose collecting the drips falling from it. She turned on the tap, rinsing the blood of his hand as he continued to hold the tissues to his face.

"He wa' bigger than me."

"And you're a Ninja!" She turned to look at him, throwing her hands up in exasperation. He was even wearing his Gi, not even looking like a civilian.

"Yeah."

"So, why did he punch you?"

"I di'n't think he ha' the guts."

Nya just stared at him. Her mouth actually fell open. Of all the reasons her brother had come home injured; this had got to be one of the most ridiculous. Standing up for someone else was one thing, as were ninja missions. Nya could handle his ego – years of practice – and even his tendency to take risks. But this was new.

She turned back to the sink, rinsing her own hands. He was so stupid! Going and getting punched in the face because he didn't know when to shut up. She grabbed his hand and shoved him roughly towards the counter, gesturing him to sit.

She tilted his head back, pulling the tissues from his nose. The blood had mostly stopped now, and she began to poke his nose, checking for any breaks. Finding none, she met his eyes, and he broke out into the most stubborn grin – blood stained teeth showing. Nya gave him her best unimpressed glare, but the longer she held his gaze, the wider his smile grew. It was infectious, and she had to duck her head as she tried to hold in a laugh.

Grabbing a cloth from the cupboard, she ran it under the tap before returning and beginning to wipe the blood off Kai's face. She carefully cleaned him up, before whacking him round the head with the cloth.

"Hey!" he ducked back, indignation colouring his featured, "What was that for?!"

"You are the stupidest person I've ever met."

"Now that's unfair," he waggled his eyebrows at her, "you've met Jay."

She gasped, feigning outrage and swatted at him again, "I, happen to like Jay."

Kai hopped down off the counter, swaggering around the kitchen. He turned to her, squinting his eyes, bending over and doing a very passable imitation of the old lady who used to teach them at school.

"Now you listen here girl," he croaked, wiggling his finger, "you look out now deary—boys are nothing but trouble."

Nya burst out laughing, no longer able to contain herself. She doubled over, hands on her knees, breathless as the combined idiocies of her brother caught up to her. Straightening, smile playing across her lips, Kai pulled he into an embrace, kissing the top of her head.

"Thanks for patching me up sis."

She scoffed, "What would you do without me?"
