Chapter Text
Peter quickly moved through the crowded floor of the restaurant. He had been working here as a waiter for about four years now. He started as soon as he turned 18 to help his Aunt May pay for his college. It was the least Peter could do for her.
Today was a particularly busy day. Every table was full or waiting to be filled by guests with a reservation. There was even a long waitlist of walk-in customers. The restaurant Peter worked at was rather fancy (at least to him.) The dress code for waiters was a white button down, and black suit pants. He also wore a black waist apron that held his notepad he took orders on as well as a pen.
Peter currently carried two large trays of food over to a table of four people. With precision he set down each meal in front of the person who had ordered it. Peter wore his classic customer service smile as he finished. “Let me know if you guys need anything else” He beamed before quickly leaving the guests alone to enjoy their meal.
Just as Peter was walking to check on one of his other tables, he was intercepted by one of his coworkers, a fellow waiter, named Harley.
“Hey Peter, I need you to take one of my tables.” Harley blurted as soon as he grabbed Peter's arm.
Peter blinked with a look of confusion. “Why? Is the customer being weird to you?”
Harley quickly shook his head. “No man, it's just that…” The other paused briefly as if considering his words. “He’s got…scars…like all over his face and body. It freaked me out when I first saw him so I gasped pretty loud. I think I offended him, I mean he didn’t look offended but still. I feel horrible and think he’d be more comfortable with a new server.”
Peter nods. “Right got it…which table is he at?”
Harely quickly pointed Peter over to a table stashed in the corner of the restaurant. “You’re a life saver man! I promise I’ll make it up to you.”
Peter just hummed and waved his coworkers' gratitude off as he walked away. After all, taking on more tables just meant more money for Peter in tips, he really didn’t mind at all.
“Hello, sir.” Peter smiled at the hulking figure seated at the table. The man glanced up. Even though he had his hoodie pulled over in an attempt to cover his face, Peter still saw the scars. They really did cover every inch of the man's visible skin but Peter didn’t feel disgusted or shocked at all.
‘They're kinda pretty’ Peter thought.
“What happened to my other waiter? Not that I’m complaining you’re more eye candy than he could ever dream of being.” The man's voice was slightly rough but carried a playful cadence to it. His words, despite perhaps sounding creepy from someone else, sounded light hearted from him.
Peter found himself chuckling. “Our restaurant is famous for our eye candy. Your other waiter became too busy with his other tables so I’ll be serving you tonight. My name is Peter.”
“Wade.” The man replied and Peter’s smile turned more genuine.
“Nice to meet you Wade. Can I get you started with a drink?”
—
The evening continued smoothly as Peter severed his normal tables as well as Wade. However, he found himself checking in on Wade more than his other customers. The two would chat each time he came over and Peter found their conversations refreshing.
“Are you seriously 22? You have such a baby face!” Wade hummed in surprise. His half eaten food sat ignored as Peter and him chatted. This was the eighth time Peter had come over to his table under the guise of refilling Wade's drink that was never more than halfway empty.
“Yep, pretty sure. I was there when I was born, after all, and for each of the subsequent birthdays.”
Wade chuckles. “You’re such a cutie pie. If you’re ever low on cash I have a few bright ideas on how you could make money.”
Peter understood what the man was insinuating and raised an eyebrow “but if I took up a job like that this restaurant wouldn’t have eye candy for you anymore.”
Wade barked out a laugh. “You’re so right, baby, scratch what I just said. I wouldn’t want to lose my favorite candy.”
Peter grinned and flushed a little but excused himself to wait on his other tables. Something about Wade was so refreshing. Peter liked talking to him. Needless to say he was a little disappointed when not even 15 minutes later, the man asked for his check.
“Leaving so soon?” Peter couldn’t help but ask, as Wade finished paying and stood to leave.
Even with the hoodie pulled up, Peter could see the wide smile that spread across Wade's face. “Don’t worry your pretty little head. I’ll be back for another taste of my favorite meal soon enough.” before Peter could reply Wade grabbed his hand and pressed two bills into his open palm. “Bye bye sugar plum!”
The man then turned and practically pranced out of the restaurant.
Peter sighed softly. Only once Wade was out of view did he finally look down into his hands at the tip. At the sight of the money, Peter’s eyes turned into saucers. Wade had left him two hundred dollars for a meal that had cost thirty.
Peter nearly tripped over his own two feet running outside. He frantically searched the streets for the familiar hulking figure, but spotted Wade nowhere. Defeated, Peter headed back into the restaurant with nothing to do but pocket the insanely large tip.
Peter continued the rest of his shift in a daze, still thinking about Wade. Even after his shift ended, his thoughts lingered on the mysterious man.
—
Wade had never expected to meet such an adorable guy at a random restaurant. He had gone there to reward himself after taking out a high profile hit. Wade always got the munchies after filling a baddie (derogatory) with bullets. Usually he would just go to a taco truck to avoid having to wait long for his food, but the boxes (aka crazy voices in his head) were craving something different so Wade wandered into a fancy-ish looking restaurant. One big plus about being a large grossly disfigured man was that you didn’t have to wait in lines. Restaurants would usually feel bad for you so they get you in fast (and out fast if they could help it.) He had known it was a bad idea. Even with his hoodie pulled as far over his head as possible, Wade still got strange looks. It didn’t help that the waiter who guided him to his table audibly gasped in shock when he got a good look at Wade. That was quite the fucking buzz kill.
Wade knew he wasn’t exactly easy on the eyes, but you’d think these NPC’s would treat Marvel Jesus better than this!!
Just as Wade was about to call it quits and ‘dine and dash’ without the dinning part, a cute little piece of ass walked over to his table, introducing himself as Peter. It had been a while since Wade had seen such a hot little minx outside of a dimly lit strip club and boy was he enjoying it. In fact, if Wade was less humble (he was oh so very humble) he would have thought the new waiter was flirting with him a little!
Him!! Fucking Wade, the merc, Wilson. The guy known for his ugly mug and even uglier insides. It was beyond him why a handsome young guy would be flirting with him in any universe, but he wasn’t exactly complaining. The conversation was incredibly easy and casual yet it stirred something in Wade he hadn’t felt in a long time. At the end of his meal, Wade made sure to tip Petey Pie a few hundreds he had in his pocket. Well worth it in his mind.
Wade hummed as he skipped along the busy sidewalk. He would have to go back to that restaurant sometime soon to chat up Peter more. What a spectacular night.
—
A few days passed and Wade hadn’t come back to the restaurant. Each shift Peter worked he looked for the bear of a man but each time he found himself disappointed. Some of his coworkers even began teasing him about it but Peter ignored them. His interest was justified. Wade was one of a kind.
“Hey pretty Pete!!~” It was as if thinking of the man summoned him. Peter looked up from the table he was bussing to see Wade strutting over.
Similar to the last time they met, Wade was dressed in a hoodie with the hood pulled as far up as possible. Peter momentarily mourned the fact that he couldn’t see Wade’s face clearly this time either. He had been wondering for days what the man's full face looked like.
“Back for more?” Peter replied with a smile as Wade sat down at the freshly cleaned booth.
“You bet hot stuff, couldn’t stay away.” Wade replied, his wide smile the only part of his face currently visible.
Peter chuckled and pulled out his order pad. “Can I start you off with something to drink?”
Wade nods. “I’ll have a cocktail.”
Peter nodded with a hum, scribbling his words down. “Celebrating anything special tonight?”
His question earned a very exaggerated gasp from Wade. “How could you forget our five day anniversary!?”
Peter laughed, shaking his head “Sorry dearest It must have slipped my mind”
“It’s ok, you can make it up to me if you let me take you out on a date~” Wade was, of course, joking. Who would actually date his ugly mug? Yuck, am I right? He was expecting the cute waiter to laugh and politely turn him down.
“A date sounds nice…I’m off work tomorrow if that works for you.”
Wade felt like a fish out of water. “Is this real or am I hallucinating? I tend to do that."
Peter warmly smiled. “Not a hallucination, Wade.” As if to drive his point home, Peter leaned down and rested his hand on Wade's, which had been laying on the table.
“Gulp.”
Peter raised an eyebrow. “Did you just say gulp?”
“Well If this was a comic book then it would have just had a little gulp written out next to my face but this isn’t so I have to say it.”
Peter chuckled again. “Right, so about our date?”
“I can pick you up at 6 tomorrow.” Wade quickly blurted out as if Peter was going to change his mind if he waited a second longer.
Peter's smile softened and he removed his hand from Wade’s to pull out his phone. “Let's exchange numbers. I’ll text you my address when I get off my shift."
Wade fumbled to grab his own phone and the two traded numbers. It was an uneven trade, in Wade's opinion, but he was on the winning end of the deal so he said nothing. For the rest of the time Wade was at the restaurant he was in a daze. Had that really just happened or was this a sick trick his mind was playing? There was no way it was real, like, really really real.
When Wade got home that night and changed into his hello kitty pajamas, his phone buzzed.
It was an unknown number.
???
Hey it’s Peter, you know, from the restaurant!
“As if I could forget” Wade mumbled in awe as he watched Peter type. A second later, another text popped up.
???
Anyways, here's my address…see you at 6 tomorrow for my ‘forgotten anniversary apology dinner.’
Wade snorted and reread the text a few (hundred) times before finally deciding that this was in fact really really real...Gulp.
