Surely, his lover knew the shame it would bring, the humiliation flushing pink in his cheeks at the thought of being seen in such a state. For all his furious self-acceptance, even he couldn't choke down such deeply ingrained insecurity.
And now, he was being asked to step out before the crew, and the crowd below, and the open skies above him; that the moon might gaze down upon him and find him in such a state, the idea made him sick in broad daylight. And these people, these strangers that he was meant to stand above, these strangers that he was meant to bring peace to, these strangers that he was meant to protect, they'd all see him like this. Hellish first impressions, Sokka bit down against his own tongue hard enough to draw blood, nearly enough to pierce all the way through. He could have shattered his teeth on the idea, choking it down his throat as the nerves wrung him dry.
"I can't," he said simply, a sense of finality in his tone, his mind made up. "I won't."
