Summary
It's been six since Trinity's best friend died.
Six, and Trinity still calls her number just to leave a voicemail. It's her way of keeping her memory alive—a small hope that, wherever her best friend ended up, maybe she can still hear her.
Baran Al-Hashimi has just returned from Afghanistan. She's struggling with night terrors, an empty apartment, and the strange weight of being home when part of her never really came back.
Then the voicemails start.
A young woman she's never met, talking into a phone number that seemingly hasn't belonged to anyone in twelve years, who seems to be struggling just as much as she is. Baran never says a word or reveals anything. She simply listens, finding an unexpected comfort in the voice of a stranger.
She thinks, maybe if one day this stranger can be okay, then maybe she can be okay too.
So that's how it goes.
Until Baran walks into her first shift at PTMC and hears a voice she knows all too well.
