Summary
After being married for so long, Jack and Robby had grown accustomed to the ebbs and flows of their sex life. It wasn't that they were any less attracted to each other, they delighted in the privilege of getting old together, but life had a tendency to get in the way.
They'd had a number of dry spells; from Jack getting deployed and then medically discharged, to the exhaustion and long hours that came with residency. Still, they would always come out the other side. They reached attending status and didn't have to take overtime just to pay the mortgage. They discovered new and exciting ways to use Jack's shower chair.
It rarely bothered them anymore, they'd learned to adapt to the different seasons of their relationship. Sometimes though it became clear that they'd left things a bit long, and Jack was starting to notice the signs. Robby could never simply talk to him about his needs, but it would quickly become apparent something was wrong — not just to his husband, but to everyone who had to work with him in the ER.
