no grave can hold my body down: an anthology

Summary:

"no grave can hold my body down" is an anthology by students for a Contemporary Literature class wherein they were assigned to create a digital literary output based on their analyses of the poem by Gregoria de Jesus entitled "Magmula Giliw, Nang Ikaw ay Pumanaw."

They were tasked to create one, cohesive work surrounding the theme of "Love."

This group of students created four, distinct poems, instead.

Chapter 1: ἀγάπη // AGAPE

Chapter Text

You weren’t there the night I toppled

Into the quiet grave

But I swear it was your voice

That beckoned me in

A whisper in the shadows of the storm-winds,  stirring

Thereupon the horizon, tar-black, breaking

Like the stygian soil that I, by spurred arms,

Shoveled beneath my feet, away

Into the faceless veil of night.

I peer into the Abyss, the quiet grave.

I know not if it looks back.

Still, it is

Like some chthonic god from the adamantine dark

My mausoleum shall be a temple to

To whom I shall be naught but a dead star

                                                                                                         A Void away.

Still, I am.

And that is a prayer enough to the gaping maw

of the unknown
