New start

Summary:

The stick gang moves in together

Notes:

Second here is older then the gang (I'm calling him Second and not Orange ok?), not by much just 2-3 years. I think they’re about 18? 20? About that range idk, old enough to move out but honestly still kids. Yeah yeah I know I’m the author lol, they’re basically older then me in this fic.
Also this is a AU and Alan technically doesn’t exist.
This was inspired by the "Alan Becker College AU" by Ymcan1, I really love it and you should go check it out!

Chapter 1: Move in day

Chapter Text

It was the second week of spring, it also happened to be the day the stick gang moved in together.

The car ride was cramped, six people in one car was definitely not ideal, but they had been through worse circumstances.

There was a heated debate about who would sit in the passenger seat between Green and Red at the start. It was eventually won by Green through a game of rock paper scissors, which Red was most definitely not happy about. Second was driving, green sat in the passenger seat and the rest was crammed in the back.

They finally pulled up at a driveway and stopped, after a moment Second stepped out and looked at the house. “Well there it is, this is our new home now, anyone excited?” He said to no one in particular. Red was next to exit the car, he burst out and stretched. “God, that was a long drive,” he exclaimed.

They passed the two hour drive by chatting and playing a few road games. Then Purple fell asleep and they chatted for a bit longer, but ended up doing their own thing. Green was listening to music and Blue was just staring out the window in thought. Yellow read for a little bit before he got dizzy and started talking quietly to red who was playing with a rubix cube, careful not to wake purple up.

Green hopped out and went to the back of the car and opened the trunk saying “hell yeah, can’t wait!” in response to Second's question. “Ay purple, wake up.” Green called to Purple who was still asleep in the car. Blue gently shook awake the purple stickfigure, after a few seconds Purple opened his eyes, slightly groggy but dragged himself out of the car followed by Blue.

Red and Yellow were already hauling the luggage out from the trunk. “Heads up,” Red said, then threw a particularly heavy bag to Yellow that caught him off guard and slammed into his chest. Yellow managed to grab it at the last second, preventing it from falling to the ground. Yellow glared at Red and rolled his eyes, placing the bag on the doorstep. “Hey, be careful with that,” said Green, who was the owner of said bag, and rushed over to check if anything inside broke. Red slapped him on the back and went on unloading the trunk.

After the trunk was empty and slammed shut, they all dragged their suitcases and bags to the door. Red was already there, impatiently jingling the handle, excited to get in. Orange tossed the keys to him, Red caught it and inserted the keys only to be shoved aside by Green. After a bit of bickering the door was finally opened.

They all filed inside the house, except Blue who apparently went back to the car, seeming to be looking for something. “Blue what are you doing? Come on.” Called purple. “Hold up, I’m looking for something,” blue replied. The rest of the gang exchanged a glance, a few unspoken words passed between them, and they somehow came to an agreement. Yellow spoke up, “Blue you looking for your netherwarts?” Blue looked up from his searching, “yeah, what’s going on.”

“Um…we might have done something about that.” Said Yellow. “What do you mean ‘done something’ about it? What did you do?” asked blue. Yellow looked to the side at Green, “you wanna tell him?” He asked. “No way, you tell him.” Answered green. “Did you guys steal it or something?” Blue demanded.

“Here’s the thing,” Orange says, chiming in. “We don’t think it’s healthy for you to eat so much of that stuff, you're basically addicted. And we might have tossed your supply.” Blue jumped up, banging his head on the top of the car. “WHAT!” He shouted, “WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?”

“We told you,” said Purple. “We don’t think it’s good for you, we’re just trying to help you.” Blue stomped up to them, glaring. “Whatever, let's go.” The rest of the gang looked at each other, Blue had taken the knowledge better than they thought he would. “Um ok,” said Red as Blue joined them inside their new home.

For a moment they just stood there, staring, taking everything in. The house consists of two floors.

The first floor was the common space, it included the living room, kitchen and dining table and such.
The second floor was where all of their rooms are, each stick gets their very own room, which was a nice change from their old home where they had to share the same space. Even though it was nice to have company, sometimes one wished they had personal space. The second floor was also where the laundry room and storage space was. There were 2 bathrooms, one on the first floor, the other on the second.

And finally there was the garage, it resides on the first floor (obviously). All of the sticks owned one car, which had to be shared between the 6 of them. Which often stirs up conflict, arguments are often held on who gets to use the car when 2 people need it at the same time. So most of them have other means of transportation, bikes, skateboards, scooters and such.

After looking around the house a bit (even though they had already seen it in person before, along with a few other homes. They had decided that this was their favorite out of all of the others they had visited, therefore choosing to move here. But they still wanted to look around because they just felt like it.), they finally started hauling their stuff upstairs into their respective room, which they had already claimed before coming here. There was obviously some arguing and fighting for the “best room”, which was silly because the rooms were basically the same size, but they had eventually come to an agreement.

The moving company will be here after some time. All the other major furniture like the couch and beds was already there, but items like kitchenware, books, extra clothes and the other unspecified items needed to be here too. And there was just no way they could fit into their already full luggages. They had sometime before the moving van arrived so they started to kind of settle in.
A few of them had also ordered some things online, but it would take a few days to get here. Meanwhile they were just chilling.

___________

The morning had passed and slowly shifted to noon, they had arrived at around 10 a.m. Which was pretty early, but the gang had decided that they wanted to do as much as they could in a day, so they could quickly move into their new home. They were all very excited and couldn't wait.

Even though they had a few items on them, the bulk of their stuff was in the moving van that was still yet to arrive. So they just dumped the luggages and bags in their respective rooms. Some were neatly organized, while some just tossed their stuff on the floor, making a complete mess.

It was lunch time, and since they couldn’t really make food due to the lack of utensils, they really had no choice but to order takeout. They were all sitting on the couch in the living room not really doing anything. Green finally spoke up, “guys I’m ordering takeout, what should we eat?” Red looked up from his phone, “um i’m fine with anything.” He looked up some restaurants from his phone, “hey this one looks nice, we should try it out.” The rest of them said they were fine with it and chose their meal. Green made the call, after a minute their order was in and it would take about 20 minutes for it to get here. They all just sat around and chatted for a bit, playing around until the food arrived. When the doorbell finally rang, Purple was the closest to the door, he got up saying "I'll get it,” and walked over to open it. He was handed 2 bags each with 3 containers in it. He puts them on the floor and pats his pockets calling back into the living room asking “does anyone have any cash?”

“Pay up broke boy!” Shouts Red, stretched out on the couch with his hand above his head.
“Yeah right, cause I'm not the one that spent 100 dollars on that random [model]” Purple says right back, “come on I don’t have anything on me right now…”
Second sighs and tosses Purple his wallet. The delivery guy watches the exchange, silently laughing inside. He accepts a bill from Purple and leaves. Purple picked up the bags from the floor and carried them over to the dining table, the rest of them got up and followed him over.

They ate while talking about nothing, occasionally making silly jokes that caused a few laughs and groans. After 30 minutes they were finished and Blue collected the empty containers and tossed them in the trash.

Yellow checked the time, it was almost 1 p.m. “Hey, the moving van should be here soon.” He said. “We should make a plan or something, that way it would be more efficient.”
“Yeah that’s a good idea,” said Second. “Each of us should handle a task or manage something.” The moving guys would carry the boxes and stuff into the house, and it was their job to sort through the items and unpack it. So they devised a plan. The boxes were already marked and sorted into different categories, so all they have to do is unbox them. Easy enough right?

Each stick has a few boxes with their names on it, inside containing their stuff. The rest of the boxes held decorations, utensils and other items. Purple and Second will carry each stick’s boxes upstairs but put it in the person’s room, after they finish that they will come downstairs to help the others unbox and organize the remaining boxes.

Blue will be in charge of the kitchen, meaning all the plates, pots and pans were up to him. He volunteered since he cooks the most anyways, and it would be nice to decide where to put all the stuff. Yellow will unpack and organize the books onto the bookshelf, he was the only one willing to do the tedious task, and also the only one who probably wouldn’t mess up or give up halfway.

Red said he wants to decorate the place and put random everyday items in their place, Green didn’t really trust him to not jank around and put random crap everywhere, so he insisted he would do it with Red. Purple and Second were just told to help with things and “like clean up stuff or whatever” after they came back downstairs. So they were just standing around not sure what to do when Second informed them that the moving company texted him, telling him the moving van will be here in a few minutes.

“Hey look!” Said Red looking out the window, “looks like it’s here.” He opens the door and walks out followed by Green and Second to greet the moving people. Purple, Yellow and Blue stayed inside waiting for them. There were 2 movers. They got out to open the back of the van, and they started picking up the boxes and carrying them into the house. The 3 sticks that were outside came back in and all of them stood there awkwardly until the movers finished with all of the boxes. Second counted the boxes making sure things were in order, everything seemed to be in place. So he paid and thanked the movers, and wished them a good day.

Don’t worry, they’re financially responsible (except maybe Red…also maybe green) and mostly split the bills.
After the movers drove away, they stood there looking at the boxes at their feet. “Alright, we should start unpacking,” said Yellow. “Second and Purple carry these,” he pointed to the boxes with their names on it, "upstairs ok?"
“Yeah yeah, no problem.” Said Purple hefting a box up and nudged Second with his hips. “Come on, let's go.”

They both went up the stares each carrying a box in their arms. The rest of them were true to the plan, Blue dragged boxes into the kitchen and started unboxing them. Red saw that blue was just tossing the wrapping and bubble wrap on the floor so he went and grabbed the trash bin over, Blue thanked him with a smile.

Yellow was starting to stack the books, and Green was just opening random boxes and organizing stuff around. After around 15 minutes Second and Purple finished putting the boxes in the sticks rooms and came to help the others.

The rest of the afternoon was spent unpacking and cleaning, it was a lot more effort then they thought. Green put on headphones and started to listen to some music, Yellow saw this and decided to listen to an audiobook.

When most of the stuff on the first floor was done some of them went upstairs and started to unpack and organize their room. Empty boxes were scattered around randomly, Blue picked his way around them and went up the stairs to his room. He looked around the hallway and ducked inside, casting a gaze at the boxes in his room. He sighed and opened the first box.

Before he could do anything the sound of a shattering plate interrupted the quiet, Blue rushed back downstairs to the kitchen where he was greeted by the sight of Red standing there with a shattered plate at his feet and a look on his face.

“What happened?” Asks Blue. “Didn’t I organize the plates already?” The other sticks were gathering around asking about what happened and if everything was alright. “Yeah I’m ok,” said Red. He grimaced and looked at the broken plate, “it was an accident.”

He bent down and picked up the broken pieces in his hand and put them on the kitchen counter, careful not to cut his hands on the sharp edges. “Careful,” said Second. “There might be some small shards around here, do we have a vacuum?” Purple looks at the boxes around the house, “I think we have a small handheld one, i’ll go get it for you.”

“Thanks,” said Red gratefully. The others went back to what they were doing, Blue gave Red a pat on the back and went back to his room. He went back to opening the boxes and the search for something, while in the background the sound of a vacuum started.

After Red finished cleaning up the mess in the kitchen he headed upstairs into his own room, which was currently a total mess. He had just dumped the luggage and bags on the floor without thought, and now he was faced with the tedious task of organizing it all. He opened his phone and found a Minecraft video and pressed play, and started unpacking and cleaning his room while watching the video.

By now all of them were in their own rooms and were organizing and unpacking and all that. Yellow had already finished, his room perfectly and organized. He sighed, knowing that it probably wouldn’t stay like this long. With all the redstone projects he likes to work on it will soon be a total mess, but that was a problem to worry about in the future.

That wouldn’t be a problem for Purple, who was a little bit of a perfectionist. Even though he already spent a while in his room he was nowhere near done yet.

Second was quick and efficient, and he was the first one to finish all his tasks. He lets out a breath and looks around, the others are still busy and his heart filled with happiness. This was how he wanted to spend his youth. Having fun and joking around with his friends, not constantly worrying about life. He felt so lucky that these sticks had appeared in his life, he didn’t know what he would without all of them.

Second decided he should check on the others and see if they needed help. He knocked on Blue’s door and without waiting for an answer walked right in. Blue shot up, fumbling for something and hiding it behind his back. “Oh h-hey Second, what’s going on?” He laughed nervously, glancing around. Second, his eyes narrowed in suspicion. He took a step forward asking “what are you hiding Blue?”

“Hiding? I’m not hiding anything.” He said unconvincingly, trying and failing to nudge something under his bed. Second bent down and picked it up. He felt bad for intruding but he was also worried for Blue.

He held up a middle sized box, opened it to reveal a stack of netherwarts. Blue lunged for it while saying “that’s not mine, I don’t know how it got there.” Second side stepped him looking absolutely unconvinced, “should have known you have another stash. “Come on, give it back!” Blue lunged and missed again.

Red poked his head in, hearing the commotion. “What’s going o- oh, BLUE!” Blue was still grabbing at Second, who tossed the box to Red who caught it and looked inside. “Come on Blue,” Red exclaimed. “We threw them away for a reason, this addiction is not healthy!”

“Alright,” said Second. “Hand them over.” Blue looked at him, “what are you talking about? I don’t have any left."
“Cut the crap, we know you have more. Hand them over.” Second stood there with one hand on his hips, the other stretched out to blue, waiting. Blue glared at them, “fine.” He muttered and stomped over to his newly decorated closet and threw open the door.

“Stop acting like a toddler, grow up.” Said Green who had come over to investigate, dragging Purple with him. “I am grown.” Blue said, tossing something over his head. Second caught it looking unimpressed. “The rest? Give them here.” Blue glanced up, “that's all of it.” Red side-eyed him, unconvinced. “Yeah we know you’re lying, it’s better if y-”

“Wait!” Purple pipped in cutting off red. “I don’t think it’s great idea to just suddenly cut something off like that, that would be really hard on Blue and have bad withdraw symptoms.” He quickly walked to the door, sticking his head out yelling. “Yellow get in here, we need to discuss something.”

They heard a grumble and footsteps climbing up the stairs, and Purple popped his head back in the room. With Yellow here it was getting a bit crowded, but they won’t be here for long, so it’s fine for now. Purple clapped his hands, getting everyone’s attention. “We are here to discuss Blue’s netherwart addiction.”

“Come on guys, it’s not that serious.” Said Blue, “stop acting like it’s some kind of counsel.” He aimed the last part at Purple, who mostly ignored him. “As I was saying,” Purple continued. “I think instead of completely throwing away the netherwarts we slowly decrease the amount he consumes, that way we can cut out his addiction without him having too severe side effects.

Blue tried butting in again, “there’s no need for all that, besides there isn’t any harm in eating them.” At this Green had to butt in. “No side effect? HELLO? Remember that time when I ate them and got sick and threw up? Remember?” Green shouted, waving his hands around. “I have no idea how you eat them, but it’s going to have some serious effects someday.” Second rested a hand on his shoulder, “alright alright, calm down.”

“Well I guess that’s the plan?” Asked Yellow. They all nodded and agreed, except Blue who was protesting to no avail. They all walked out of his room and discussed how they are going to go about his plan. And Blue just stayed in his room sulking (grown man btw).

__________

Dinner time rolled around, Blue was too lazy to cook anything and honestly still pissed about the fact they had taken away his netherwarts and is refusing to do anything for them. And besides, there weren't really any ingredients to cook with anyways. So they just ate instant noodles from their stash.
They kinda just did nothing and then went to sleep.

___________

The next morning Blue woke up early hoping if he could steal some netherwarts from where the others were hiding them, thankfully he was unsuccessful.

The rest of the gang slowly woke up, Second of course was the last one. Since Blue was still mad at them, they had to figure out breakfast by themselves.

Red decided he could try and help, he himself was a really good cake baker (I think you know why) but didn’t really know anything other than that. Coffee should be easy enough right? Just use drip coffee and hot water, nothing difficult. Red thought to himself and rummaged through the kitchen cabinets to look for the packets of drip coffee they had brought with them.

Yellow was also in the kitchen cooking up a basic breakfast for all of them, even though Blue was the cook of the house Yellow wasn’t that bad himself. All of them know at least some culinary skills since Blue can’t be there to cook for them all the time. They sat at the table waiting until breakfast was finally served.

Red bought out the coffee giving everyone a cup except Blue and Purple who both don’t really drink it. Second took a sip and grimaced, “what the heck did you do?” Red shot him a glare, “what are you even talking about? I didn’t do anything!”

“Red, this is absolute trash. How the hell did you mess it up? It's literally drip coffee, drip coffee hello?” Second shot right back. He sighed, “well at least that’s one way to wake up.” He got up and shuffled into the kitchen to make himself a new cup.

Green tentatively took a sip. ”Aw come on Second, it’s not that bad. Maybe it’s just your packet.”

“Maybe.” Second answered from inside the kitchen.

__________

The rest of their day was spent in each other's company, laughing and having fun. The excitement of moving in was already starting to wear off, but this feeling of belonging and purpose might never leave.

Notes:

This is my first fic ever and I think it's alright. There is definitely room for improvement.
I’m considering extending this fic about how they’re settling in and what their life's are like from different POVs. I’m thinking about it, you guys can give me suggestions. I have one in mind about Green breaking his guitar and going to fix it, yeah.
