Work Text:

Grizzer had a mission. This wasn't unusual; even her target wasn't an unusual one for her to have. It was a little odd that she had to slip away and do this on her own, but if she was the only one to notice, she was the one who would have to check in.

Thankfully, she knew how to stay out of the way of all the kind-busy-siblings who were wandering through the halls and rooms of the building, doing whatever work they did. Though Grizzer smelled too much stress-unhappiness, she couldn't help all of them at once, and for the moment she had a more urgent mission. So she kept her nose open and followed the faint scent she needed, along with the knowledge of where her target could usually be found. Soon enough she arrived at a door. She cocked her head, thinking. She reached out and scratched at the door a few times, perking up when she heard mumbling inside.

The door swished open to reveal pack-leader-always-tired, sighing when he looked down to see Grizzer.

"How."

Her happiness at being so close to succeeding made her wiggle back and forth.

"I'm calling Hound to come pick you up."

While Grizzer recognized the sound used for pack-leader-happy, she wasn't done yet. Instead of leaving, she invited herself into the room, glad when pack-leader-always-tired allowed it, closing the door with another sigh. He talked to his shiny-light for a little-

"What do you mean you can't come get-?"

"Some of mine just came back from taking down a nest of weapons dealers. We have to look over all the other massiffs right now. Just keep Grizzer for a bit, she's well-behaved."

-before sitting down heavily. His seat creaked under the weight, and the scent of pain-deep-burning increased. Grizzer found what she had been worried about. With a little whine, she nosed the pack-leader's side, ignoring the hand which pushed her away. She scented old blood there. Not actively bleeding, which was good. The wound still smelled open though, but without that sharp-crisp-plant smell that most of the other kind-busy-siblings put on their wounds. Instead, Grizzer smelled more pain, and something a hint sour, which worried her.

Again and again she came back to nudge at the covered wound, until eventually pack-leader pushed her away to stand up while he said, "Don't. I already know."

He paced the couple steps over to some containers and dug around before pulling out some items. He sat this time on the longer-cushy-seat, so Grizzer joined him up there, watching. He uncovered the wound, and pushed Grizzer away with an elbow when she tried to get a better sniff. He wiped it down with something which smelled strong-sharp, then covered it with something clean smelling and soft looking, wrapped all around. Then he pulled his usual smooth coverings back over his body. When she glanced up at his face, he made an expression Grizzer didn't understand.

"I'm fine." Grizzer didn't respond. "Fever knows about it, it's healing. It'll barely scar. I'm fine."

Grizzer tilted her head and scooted closer. She didn't get pushed away.

"I just... the shinies don't need to know what happened last week. As far as they're concerned, I walked away with minor bruising. Fever was angry with me, mainly for hiding it, but they agreed my stitching was good. And I drank more water than caf today. So."

Grizzer ignored all the words pack-leader-always-tired said. Most she didn't understand, but when she heard the sound for obey-strongest-healer, she knew the last thing she needed to do to help.

With a quick lunge, making pack-leader yelp, Grizzer pushed him down on the soft-seat, making him lay while she laid on top of him. He grumbled and shoved, but Grizzer wiggled and dug into the softness below, keeping her weight pinning pack-leader down. Eventually he gave up the struggle.

"Fine. A small break. Then Hound is coming to get you and we're done."

Grizzer grunted in happiness.

Some time later, pack-leader's eyes blinked, his breathing went slow, and he was asleep. Grizzer watched over him faithfully, hoping this would help him be not so tired anymore.

Notes:

Surprised there aren't that many tags for Grizzer! More! More space-dog!
