Summary
A thorough guide to beta reading for both authors and beta readers. Neither exhaustive nor definitive, but hopefully a good starting point that covers the basics and explains how to get the most out of an author-beta reader relationship.

Bookmarker's Notes
Half faux-editorial piece, half character study this story explores the role of media in recovery, trauma, and sexuality. Superbly written and unflinchingly honest every sentence in this creates an compelling read that will have you coming back over and over again yet some how taking away something new or different each time. Well written 1st person especially with OCs is rare this fic both by nature of the genre and handling is an exception. Those on the asexuality/aromatic spectrum(s) may find this work of particular interest for how it balances and explores different types of love while refusing to create a hierarchy for them. In short, this work is fic at its promising potential and must read writers and fans alike.

Summary
"You look like him," Bucky says. No prompting, no nothing. He just speaks, like this is a thing he does.
"What?" Steve asks. He didn’t really hear it, too stunned by the fact that words were coming out of Bucky’s mouth to understand their meaning.
"You look like him. So did Pierce." His voice is soft, gravelly from disuse. "Is that why they picked you?"
Steve’s heart plunges like an elevator with the cables cut. “Buck, it is me.”
The hard line of Bucky’s mouth softens just a little. “Sure,” he says.- Language:

A short yet potent look at the impact of gaslighting/abuse on trust and relationships. Bucky started to break when he was told Steve was dead. To further encourage compliance Hydra chose Pierce because he looked like Steve. As Bucky begins to piece back to together his memory the decades of such manipulations and other trauma make trusting Steve even that he is who says he is difficult to say the least.

Summary
Steve looks around and Sam suddenly sees what he's seeing. Even though Sam built that damn bookcase Bucky's still got a habit of leaving his books lying around in piles, Virginia Woolf and Murakami and the shitty scifi pulps he still loves all in stacks together, glasses abandoned on top of them. The cats are sprawled out sleepy over an afghan Nat knitted - the only afghan Nat ever knitted, because she picks up skills and drops them depending on who she's being that month - and Sam's Arabic homework is strewn across the coffee table, a coffee mug set down on top of it. Oh. Oh jesus. It's not Bucky that Steve wants, it’s not even just them, it's this, all of this, and how could he not. What they've built, it's goddamn gorgeous.
You can, he thinks, you could, we’d give you this if you let us, and he doesn’t know how to say it. Doesn’t know what Steve would do if he did.

[“He loves you,” Sam whispers against Steve's mouth. “Did you know, Steve? He loves you so much, look how he loves you, how we love you,” and Steve's eyelashes flutter down in a sweep like that'll hide how he's crying…
“Yeah,” Steve sighs, “yeah, okay, yeah. How'd you get so wise?”
“Man, I've always been wise,” Sam says. Tickles Steve's ribs, just because he can. “You just never listened, before. Too in love with your own voice. I'm gonna save the guy trying to kill us, Sam. I'm gonna take on the US government with the force of my beautiful jawline and my own self-righteousness, Sam. I think Glenn Miller is better than Marvin Gaye, Sam. God, you're lucky I like you.”]
Even with you don’t usually go for OT3s consider giving this one a chance. It’s a rare example of well developed and empowered Sam who in character loves deeply but makes his own decisions. Angst with a happy ending that is expertly well balanced with humor this fic encourages reflection on how though the struggle is very real the simple joy of everyday life and love is what recovery is often most about.

Bookmarker's Notes
A modern AU that explores the maturation of young love, the realities of Queerness, found family, and whether love may be fated, chosen, or a bit of both. Steve and Bucky are childhood best friends who "love every way it is possible to love someone." Growing up as neighbors in dysfunctional homes they waited for the day they could start their own home together; however, they are forced out their homes and apart by their parents before this can occur. Several years later Steve is a successful professional artist beyond anything he and Bucky ever dared to dream, but without Bucky it feels hollow and he is untethered many ways. Bucky has encountered a series of traumas that have have done their best to beat him down both figuratively and literally. When a chance meeting draws them back they slowly start to rebuild themselves, their relationship, and a home.
Content Warning/Triggers
This series includes discussions and depictions of sexual assault/rape mostly within the context of sex work (a few of which occur while a major character is still 17). Conversion "therapy" while not a major plot point is portrayed as is being disowned for sexuality. The effects of these on relationships are a major theme are realistic with a particularly nuanced portrayal of sexual healing. The use and experiences of therapy by both major and minor characters is convincing and impactful. The earlier works in this series contain a decent amount of co-dependence between Steve and Bucky that moves into a more balanced relationship as it and their recoveries progress. Substance abuse and self-medicating (mostly Alcohol) are frankly shown, but not glamourized and actively encouraged to be replaced by healthier coping mechanism. Self-esteem and self worth issue both spoken and internalized are present and confronted through out.
