Work Text:
Harley kept a bag of very expensive coffee beans hidden away in her kitchen. Sourced from Antiva with Lucanis’ help. She had been restocking them every time they ran low.
Neve Gallus boiled her coffee when she needed it immediately and Harley was too busy to make some for her.
This was why Harley hid the beans away.
If Neve ever boiled her expensive beans Harley might have to report her to Lucanis for the crime.
Neve had her own supply of lesser quality beans that she could boil if it came to it.
Though, nowadays, it rarely came to that. Harley always had time to make Neve coffee. And if she didn’t, she would make time.
Harley took her time preparing. Grinding the beans herself, cleaning them up and brewing them to perfection.
It was a constant fight between her and Lucanis’ whose coffee was better back during the war, and the debate was never truly settled.
But Harley knew Neve preferred her coffee.
Something she never let Lucanis forget.
Coffee made to perfection; Harley took two mugs into Neve’s little office. Her detective stood at a board with a map of Dock Town. Pins and strings lead a maze of lines around the streets.
Where Shadows and Threads often intercepted. Where news and business could be exchanged.
Neve didn’t turn, focused eyes following threads. She stepped forward to adjust one of the Shadows lines.
“Good morning.” Harley hummed, “Up all night again?”
Neve tilted her head, a tiny smile on her face. “Perhaps.” She responded, turning to accept her coffee. She sniffed and drank from it deeply, letting out a satisfied hum.
When she pulled the mug away, she had a line of milk and chocolate across her top lip.
Harley grinned and stepped closer to kiss it away. Neve stared at her wide eyed for she smirked, quickly masking her surprise. Harley stuck her tongue out in response.
Her hand fell to Neve’s free one. She tugged.
“Come on. Sit and drink your coffee. Break time.” She insisted.
Neve sighed deeply, feigning annoyance. There was a small smile on her face.
Harley knew that Neve knew that she wouldn’t let this drop.
Neve sat on the couch and sighed again contently. (A sound she tried to muffle into her mug.)
Harley sat next to her and pressed a kiss to her cheek. “And for some extra insurance to make sure you rest…” She shapeshifted, stretching out in her massive cat form across Neve’s legs.
She settled herself. Neve’s fingers curled into her fur and Harley began to purr.
Neve drank from her coffee again, reaching for a nearby novel.
This break would not last long, not for Neve Gallus, but Harley would take whatever she got.
