Work Text:
Jude was having a fucking lovely day. He was fighting Flow and Sharp because they decided they both hated him enough to team up. Flow was in front to attack Jude while Sharp stayed behind with a bow.
“Dude, you guys seriously hated me enough to team up, huh?” Jude scoffed from under his gas mask, dodging another arrow from Sharp as he parried Flow.
“Yep. Everyone hates you, Jude! You should know this by now.” Flow grinned and advanced again, swiping at Jude, who dodged another time.
“You piss literally everyone off, Jude!” Sharp yelled from a distance as he shot at Jude again. The arrow flew by Jude’s ear, and it twitched out of the way, the arrow barely nicking it. “I don’t know why you’re always surprised by this.”
“I’m not.” Jude dodged to the side. “I’m just surprised you guys always think it’ll work.”
The fight continued for a few more minutes until Jude felt a single raindrop fall on his ear. It twitched immediately and Jude’s head snapped up to the sky, which had begun to darken. “Great.” He muttered. “Just what I needed.”
Flow took advantage of his temporary distraction and swiped at Jude, but the hare was still able to dodge, only taking minimum damage. He quickly ate a gapple to replenish his health.
“Come on, Jude!” Flow grinned. “Scared of a little water? I thought that was a cat thing, not bunnies.”
“I’m not a bunny. Don’t fucking call me that.” Jude’s ears pinned back and he swiped at Flow, hitting his arm. Flow splashed himself with a health pot and kept pushing Jude.
The next few minutes were a blur for Jude. He got into the rhythm of a fight. Swipe, gap, stab, dodge, block arrows, dodge again, health pot. It was pretty mindless and was beginning to get boring. And it didn’t really help that the rain was getting to him. It had started to pour, which made his hair and fur stick to his skin and made him feel heavier.
It also didn’t help that generally, rabbits and hares do absolute shit in rain or water. It weighs down their fur, and they’re very susceptible to hypothermia like that. So needless to say, Jude wasn’t very happy about getting excessively wet. He tended to avoid rain due to that. So unless it started raining in the middle of a fight, he didn’t fight in the rain.
So lucky him today, he guessed.
He was running low on items and gear, so the logical thing for Jude to do would be to run or bait a trap. He did have a knock back trap nearby, but Sharp knew about it, so that was off the table. Maybe that one by three behind the hill? That could work.
Jude pushed Flow away by his sword and turned on his heel and started to run.
For about four to eight blocks before he fell over. Dear gods, he was pathetic. He immediately moved to push himself up, but found that his limbs were not cooperating. Ah. Lovely. He was shivering quite a bit and he curled up on himself. His ears pressed against his skull.
Someone crouched in front of him, snapping their fingers near his ear. It flicked away and pressed closer to his head. He squeezed his eyes shut. Why the hell was he so damn cold?
It was just a little rain, he could handle a little rain. He was the most infamous trapper on this whole server, so of course he could handle some rain.
It was actually starting to feel a bit warm. That’s probably a… bad thing. He thinks it could be a bad thing. He vaguely remembered reading something about feeling warm after being really cold is a sign of… hypothermia.
He probably has hypothermia. That’s nice. He’s quite tired now. It would be really easy to just close his eyes and sleep. He hadn’t gotten much of that recently, so it’d be a good thing. Right? Sleep sounded very nice at the moment, so it couldn’t hurt to just… rest his eyes.
Teaming with Flow had been a wonderful idea on Sharp’s part. They both mutually hated Jude, so they could probably easily beat him together. Right? Wrong. The dumb rabbit was stupidly good at dodging arrows while fighting one of the top players in the world. Because apparently that was easy for him. Everything seemed to be a walk in the park for him.
Sharp shot arrow after arrow, but only hit two or three despite him being an excellent shot, thank you very much. Jude was just insanely good at dodging. The few arrows that did hit him, did so when Jude was actively engaging Flow. Even then they just hit his armor or something. It didn’t impact his health much, but it was doing good in whittling down his armor durability.
Then after around ten minutes into the fight, Jude blinked and squinted up at the sky. Sharp looked up as well to see the clouds darken. Rain.
Flow attacked during this temporary distraction, taunting Jude about being scared of rain or something, and Jude shot back a retort. Sharp wasn’t really paying attention. Didn’t he read somewhere that rabbits and hares do bad in rain or water? Hm. (He didn’t. Jude told him that once while they were teamed when Sharp asked why he avoided rain.)
The fight went on for another couple of minutes, during which Sharp noticed Jude moving much more sluggish than usual. More than Flow was, who was doing perfectly fine, despite the rain. All pvp’ers had to learn how to fight in rain. Sharp knew that Jude knew how to fight in rain.
And yet the hare was moving far slower than he should have been.
At the point in the fight that Jude would usually run to a trap, he turned, got about five blocks away, and fell over. It did not inspire confidence. In fact, in Sharp at least, it inspired the opposite. Worry.
Flow obviously took the chance to run at Jude and kill him, but Sharp could tell something was probably wrong.
“Wait, Flow, stop.” Sharp stepped forward and pulled Flow back by his arm.
“What, why?” Flow glared at Sharp. “He’s down, let’s finish this damn fight.”
“No, he’s not- that’s a dumb way to win a fight, first of all. Second, I don’t think this is- he’s not okay, I don’t think.” Sharp crouched near Jude’s head and snapped near his ear. The bluish purple appendage flicked away and pressed against Jude’s skull.
The hare curled up on himself into a ball and Sharp pulled his hand away. “He’s shivering a lot. I think he’s got hypothermia. I read once that rabbits and hares get it easily when they’re wet, so I wouldn’t be surprised if hybrids are the same.”
“Why the hell do we care?” Flow gave Sharp an incredulous look. Sharp shrugged.
“I dunno. It just- it doesn’t feel right to kill him like this.” Sharp frowned and checked Jude’s pulse. It was entirely too fast. “Shit, his heart rate’s really fast. That’s not good I don’t think.”
“Oh right, I forgot you two have a situationship or something.” Flow gave Sharp a dry look and shook his head as Sharp blinked at him in confusion. “You can play caretaker or whatever, just don’t drag me into it.” With that, Flow turned and disappeared away from the duo.
Sharp just watched him in pure confusion. What on earth was he talking about? What was a situ- whatever he said. Whatever, it didn’t matter. He had to help Jude.
Sharp crouched down and picked up Jude in a bridal carry and went as fast as he could towards spawn. Towards Jude’s base.
Once he got there, Sharp ran down the stairs, dodging all the traps he knew of, and went to Jude’s bed. He laid the hare down on the purple sheets and went to an enderchest to dig through it. He pulled out a heating pad (he got cold easily, okay?) and set it next to Jude’s bed.
After Sharp did that, he carefully removed all of Jude’s wet, soggy outer layers. Then he put the heating pad on top of Jude’s chest.
“Okay.” Sharp said to himself. “I can do this. What else…? Heat, obviously, not too much, but… oh. That could work.” He smiled a little and climbed into the bed.
This was fine. It was just Sharp lending Jude some of his body heat. That was normal and fine because Jude was hypothermic and needed to get warm and Sharp was warm, so clearly this was logical. And normal. And fine.
It was all fine.
Sharp repeated that to himself as he wrapped himself around Jude’s middle and pulled the hare close to him. Jude instinctively nuzzled closer to the warmth of Sharp’s chest and Sharp tried his freaking best not to make a squeak at that.
This was fine. It was all fine. Perfectly, in fact.
Jude woke up warm. He usually slept cold, so that was weird. But he felt soft and cozy and warm, so he didn’t want to be conscious yet. That seemed like too much work.
He snuggled closer to the warmth and something petted down his ears. Which made him jolt and open his eyes and jerk away from whatever that was because no one touched his ears.
He quickly found the source of the warmth in the jade green eyes blinking confusedly at him.
“Sharp?” Jude yelped and scrambled back. “What the fuck?”
“Oh. Um. Hi.” Sharp looked pointedly down at the purple sheets. “…it’s not what it looks like, I swear.”
“Then what the fuck is it?” Jude’s ears pinned back. “Cause last I remember I was fighting you and Flow and-…” He trailed off, blinking. “…what happened?”
“You passed out with mild to severe hypothermia, that’s what.” Sharp scoffed. “I had to drag you back here, so you’re welcome.”
“…okay.” Jude muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Okay. That doesn’t explain why you’re in my bed.”
“Because- uh.” Sharp stuttered and bit his lip. “You were really cold. And body heat works to warm someone up who has hypothermia, so…”
“So you, my enemy and rival Sharpness Conexion, decided that the best course of action was to cuddle with me.” Jude gave Sharp a deadpan look. “You really are dumb, aren’t you, princess?”
“Don’t call me that.” Sharp muttered and glared at Jude.
“Why not? You call me bunny even though I tell you not to. It’s only fair that I can call you that.” Jude stated matter of factly. Sharp just opened and closed his mouth for a second, like a fish. It was stupid looking. And cute.
“I- yeah. Sure. I guess.” Sharp looked away again, then he mumbled. “…your hair’s soft.”
“My- what.” Jude’s mind went blank. “You- you touched my hair?”
“…in my defense it was right there. And looked really soft. So to be honest, it’s your fault for being right there-“ Sharp began and Jude’s eyes went from pinkish red to actual red. It was quite scary.
“My fault?!” Jude yelled and Sharp inched back.
“Okay, that- that came out wrong. I meant-“
“You fucking asshole!” Jude glared at Sharp, ears pinned back against his skull in rage.
“I helped you though! I kept you from dying, so you’re welcome dickhead!” Sharp glared right back and Jude opened his mouth to retort, but instead he just sort of. Coughed and fell over a little, shivering.
…apparently hypothermia likes to have lovely after effects. Amazing. Wonderful. Just what Jude needed.
“Jude? Shit, are you okay? Wait, no, obviously not, um…” Sharp pulled Jude’s body closer to him and hugged the hare. “You’re good. It’s good, you’re fine.”
Jude shivered and pressed closer to Sharp’s warmth. Screw this blonde man for being so damn warm and comfortable. It was stupidly impossible to be mad at him. Especially when he looked at Jude the way he did. Like, doe eyes.
After a couple minutes the shivering subsided. “…fuck. I shouldn’t- shit. We’re enemies, Sharp.” Jude muttered and Sharp just held him closer.
“I don’t care. You’re like, dying, and you can’t die. Not if I’m not the one to kill you.” Sharp buried his face in Jude’s hair. “You’re so dumb.”
“Says the guy who’s fucking cuddling me.” Jude muttered again but didn’t move away. His limbs were all still numb and he felt way too comfortable cuddled up against Sharp. Fuck him.
“And?” Sharp smirked a little. “You’re not moving away. If I were to guess, I’d say you like it.”
Jude’s ears twitched and he buried his face in Sharp’s chest. He wasn’t blushing, you’re blushing, who said anything about blushing? “Shut up.”
“Mhm. Thought so.” Sharp murmured in his stupidly cute accent and closed his eyes as he got more comfortable on the bed. Jude didn’t say anything more and decided to just get cozy. He closed his eyes as well.
…if he enjoyed it, no one had to know.
