Chapter 1: 1, 2, 3

Chapter Text

1: Carl

Watching some mindless comedy show was how Dave got most of the research section of his homeworks done. He could look up any websites or references that he needed while not having the desire to check his phone.

Still, thought he had it on emergency mode, just in case something bad happened to one of his friends or family.

The TV just moved onto an ad break when the door opened and a green-haired, slightly tanned, short male entered the room.

“Hello, Carl.” Dave says, almost automatically as a greeting.

Carl didn't respond and looked at ceiling.

“Carl? Is everything okay?” Dave asked, turning off the TV.

Carl huffed and reluctantly asked, “Dave, could you call my phone?”

Dave turned on his phone and turned to his WhatsApp. He clicked on Carl's messages and saw all the past messages and a photo of a green haired, slightly tanned skin, male doing dumb selfie photo with his tongue sticking out.

Dave clicked the phone icon.

A distant buzzing sound filled the apartment.

“Oh, of course it's in the bathroom.” Carl sighed before starting to walk off, yelling “And if you tell anyone Dave, I will tell them about the time you got stuck in the-”

“Okay, message received.” Dave cut him off.

2: Spidroth

“Please get out your phone and research what the cell membrane is made up of.” The biology teacher said before he pulled out his own phone and looked to be texting someone (he was holding the phone too low and Dave was sitting at the top of the lecture room)

Dave pulled out his phone and opened Google. He typed in the word cell membrane into the search bar before getting tapped on the shoulder.

He turned to his left and the black-haired, brown-skinned, red-eye-shadow girl who tapped him looked slightly nervous.

“Dave, I can't find my phone.” Spidroth whispered.

“Where is the last place you had it?” Dave asked, wondering when he became the responsible one of the group.

“Ah, it might be in the apartment.” Spidroth said, “Could you call it? Alex is there and should pick it up.”

Dave opened up WhatsApp and started calling Spidroth, well her phone.

After a few rings, it picked up and a bright and cheerful voice answered, “Hello Dave unless someone else has your phone and they are calling to ask Spidroth if she knows who phone it is-”

“No, Alex, it's me, Dave.” He said, ending the rant about all the hypotheticals, “Just calling to check that Spindroth's phone is safe and in the apartment.”

“Yep, it is.” Alex replied, “So you want me to deliver it to your biology class?”

Spidroth, overhearing everything, nodded, “Yes please Alex.”

“Okay, Spidey, I'll get there as soon as possible.”

“Please be safe, and she hung up on me.” Dave said.

Luckily, Alex showed up in five minutes and personally handed Spidroth her phone.

3: Alex

It was a dark, November afternoon so it felt more like an evening and Porkins, Carl, Dave, and Alex were in the apartment. Dave was listening to music through a pair of ear pods in his room while just dozing.

There was a small knock on his door, like it was trying to hide that it existed but still had to fulfil its purpose of making noise.

He got up and opened it.

It was Alex looking nervous and red eyed.

“Alex, are you okay?” Dave asked.

She shook her head in reply before holding up her phone. The power button had completely separated from the phone with some loose wires being the only thing keeping it from succumbing to gravity and falling on the floor.

“Okay, what happened?” Dave asked, inviting Alex in; the room was not designed for two however and it showed with Alex and Dave barely both sitting on the bed comfortably.

“I.. I was sitting on my bed and I put my phone down to get a snack from the kitchen and, and I got my snack and then jumped on my bed and the phone hit the floor and now the power button doesn't work and I can't contact my mum and she would know what to do and I don't.” Alex said with a few hitched breaths in-between.

“Okay, let's calm down.” Dave said, looking at the phone in Alex's lap, "It's a problem, yes, but problems are fixable.”

Dave got out his phone, “First I'm going to see if the whole phone is broken or if it's just the power button. Did you have your phone on Do Not Disturb?”

Alex shook her head and Dave started to call her phone.

Her phone lit up, and so did Alex.

“So it's just the power button?” Alex asked, hopefully.

“Seems like it, maybe ask Robo when they come back. They know more about technology than me.” Dave said.

Alex thanked Dave and left his room, likely heading to the living room to wait for Robo’s arrival.

Notes:

In this universe, Alex was adopted by Professor Quigley at a young age, and was kinda spoilt but not in a bad way, just is very naive.
Also credit to Zeldy for Alex's nickname of Spidroth.
Update: I'll ill, so unfortunately skipping next ... (what's the word for every four days?) update.
