"It's a gift to welcome you in our family! It's sort of a tradition…"
Dìs felt a bit uncomfortable. She wanted her brother to be happy, but… an elf as sister-in-law? She didn't know how to handle her! This gift, for example: it was a tradition, and a Dwarf would understand it. But an Elf? How would she greet it?
Oliviel opened the massive box, and looked very surprised.
Her brother looked inside the box: "Axes?!" he exclaimed, a bit of derision in his tone.
Yes, the traditional gift for a bride from her groom's family was a set of three axes, a big two-handed one and two small throwing ones.
Oliviel looked at Dìs, her eyes sparkling: "They're beautiful!"
Ok, Dìs thought: If anything, she's taking it well, being polite.
But Oliviel continued, taking the big axe outside the box, with deference: "It's so light, and so perfectly balanced, and…" she actually sniffed the blade: "Is this mithril?"
"Yes," Dìs answered, surprised by the elf’s reaction: "not the entire blade, but yes, there is mithril in it." They were the royal family: their wedding gifts weren't common ones.
Oliviel passed reverently her fingers lightly on the edge of the blade: "It must cut through flesh and bones like through butter! And through metal, too!"
Ok, she was way too excited for just being polite. Did she really enjoy her present so much?
While Oliviel kept admiring her new axes, Dìs, astonished, looked interrogatively at Legolas.
He shrugged: "Yes, she really loves weapons. You couldn’t give her a better gift!"
