Chapter Text
The evening breeze is cool as you and Logan step outside, leaving his place hand in hand. His head is down like usual, but with that cute look on his face when he holds back a shy smile. You can’t help but squeeze his hand gently in a gesture of comfort. He leads you to his car in the driveway, his face flushed with a shy affection despite having spent most of the afternoon with you that day, and steps in front of you suddenly.
“I know it’s cheesy, I know you can open a door by yourself - but let me.” He speaks, and before you can protest, he opens the door for you. His blush spreads to his ears as he sees your smile grow, and his own does the same in return.
You had planned to get some comfort food tonight: your favorite takeout, and his favorite snack as a side in compromise. The drive was filled with quiet conversation between the two of you, the rain so light you could barely hear the pitter-pattering against the windows. Once you get your food, his hand brushing against yours as he hands you the bag, he starts driving again. You know exactly where you're going, of course. You two had this favorite spot where you liked to sit alone with each other, up on a hill that overlooked the city.
The car pulls up through the thick trees, following a dirt path you had carved yourselves from how often you visited. Logan turns the keys, leaving the car running just for some quiet music you had put on earlier before he glances at you with an adoring smile. You see the light in his eyes grow, even if his smile is still stationary and serene. He reaches out, leaning closer as his hand comes to cup your cheek softly and pull you closer. His cheeks grow a deep red and he can't help but look down, his smile growing to a goofy grin as you let out a soft chuckle at his embarrassed flush.
“How am I supposed to be all serious around you when you just laugh in my face like that?” His voice is soft, dry with a certain embarrassment and fondness that was all too familiar.
Your hand moves to meet his, cupping it against your cheek before leaning into his touch and turning your head to kiss his palm. Your lips have barely left his skin by the time his eyes are wide and his blush has spread down his neck and to the tips of his ears.
“I dunno, maybe you'll just have to try a little harder. Work on your poker face.” You tease quietly against his skin, your breath warm and tickling his palm before you nuzzle into it with a smile.
Logan pulls you closer for a chaste kiss, the world around you disappearing for a moment before he pulls away. His hand stays glued to you - turning around to intertwine your fingers with his before resting your hands on the middle console between you. He grabs his drink from the cup holder in front of you as you open the bag with your food and hand him his meal.
The conversation flows naturally as always, your hands eventually slipping apart to eat. Things were quiet with him. Just how you both liked it. The view was gorgeous from here, too. The sun had dipped just below the horizon before you made it up here, leaving a breathtaking scene in front of you with bright, sunset oranges mixing with the deep midnight blues of the night sky. The city lights only added to the atmosphere, oddly cosy as the sun slowly dipped lower and the surroundings darkened.
After a while, the conversation between you two had come to a slow pause. The air between you was quiet as you both finished your food, watching the sunset silently as the orange hues slowly turned to pink, to purple, to a deep, otherworldly blue. You were sitting in a comfortable silence for a while as the sky shifted, your hand finding Logan’s on his thigh with a gentle squeeze before your gaze lifted to his once more. The edges of his lips curled up slightly at the sudden attention shift, forming that shy smile you loved to see even in the dim lighting of the car. You could see the way his eyes shone with a mix of adoration and pure bliss at the simple sight of you. You had the instinct to curl up and hold back your flustered noises, but you would never admit that to him. When he tilted his head to the side curiously, his smile softening, you couldn't keep your eyes on him unless you wanted to get cuteness aggression - although you couldn’t look away no matter how hard you tried.
“What's with the staring?” His voice was low and curious, with that nervous shake as a telltale sign he was already flustered once again.
You could see the way his cheeks started to heat up before you looked away, your own mirroring his as you started to curl up. You kept his hand in yours, squeezing it again in silent communication. He took it as an answer, thankfully. His hand tightened around yours as he leaned down to catch your gaze before it could escape for good, making your heart beat faster against your chest.
“You're, uh. Really pretty when you're like this...” He whispered, unable to take his eyes off you. He froze for a second, almost choking on air before correcting himself.
“I mean-...! Not that you're not pretty all the time – because you are – um. What I meant was I think you're really cute. Right now. The thought was processed and I wanted you to know.” His explanation was rushed, his free hand making awkward gestures in his lap.
Logan’s heart was beating, and the flush on his cheeks spread to his ears and down his neck. You always appreciated when he started rambling like this, overcorrecting mistakes so small you hadn't even realized he made them in the first place. It seemed to quiet your mind in the moments when doubt was louder than trust.
Your knees had since been brought up to your chest, hiding your grin from him. You turned your head to look at him and rested your cheek against your knees comfortably. There was a moment of silence as you smiled up at him, watching the way his eyes moved around anxiously and the way his smile shook nervously. You wished he would be less worrisome around you though.
“I know.” It was all you needed to say, your soft tone reassuring. This had happened dozens of times before, and you had grown accustomed to reassuring him more than enough. You didn’t mind in the slightest.
Your face was slightly obstructed by your hair, falling down to cover your eye. You barely noticed. You'd had enough practice you could basically see through the thin strands, with plenty of windy days to thank for that. You both sat staring at each other in silence for what felt like forever, but it was barely a minute or two. His hand still in yours, you drag him closer. He leans over the middle console of the car, using his free hand to tuck a loose strand of hair behind your ear out of your face. Your breaths slowed as you felt the air between you shift - his smile grew so soft it was barely there, and his eyes fell down to your lips as you looked away nervously. He was usually the nervous one in these situations.
Logan reached out, gently taking your chin in his hand to guide your gaze to meet his again. His fingertips were soft, the faint scent of your earlier meal lingering despite how much he tried to wipe his hands clean with a napkin. Your lips parted slightly as his thumb accidentally brushed over the corner of them and you couldn't help but smile back. He mumbled an embarrassed “sorry” with a quiet laugh as he saw the heat of your face rise. You only hummed, expression softening as you leaned into his touch. It really melted his heart how cute you could be sometimes.
His eyebrows knit together in adoration as he watched you, your breaths mingling in the space between you two. Your hand found itself on his chest, feeling the rhythm of his heartbeat thumping beneath his sweater as you leaned closer. Your head tilted slightly, your noses bumping lightly against each other and eliciting soft chuckles from the both of you.
Your eyes fell shut as you finally felt the chapped skin of his lips against yours, which only made you smile. You had told Logan countless times to wear chapstick, or to drink more water, but he could never quite remember. He pressed forward slightly, enjoying the feeling of your palm against his chest as his hand slid from your cheek to the back of your head. His hand in yours untangled and cupped your other cheek, the move seeming counterproductive but still comforting.
It wasn't often the two of you shared moments like this, so you made sure to savor them when you could. The time never felt right nor private enough for this level of intimacy, even if it was just the simple act of kissing. You were already flustered enough from overused or common compliments, of course you would get embarrassed if he tried to kiss you in front of people - and he knew that. You were both far too shy to do anything with others around, but it was nice that you both knew there was a line you weren’t ready to cross yet.
As the kiss continued - soft and slow with warm, heavy breaths between the two of you - his hand moved from your cheek to your waist. His fingertips trailed lightly along your shoulder, down your side until he felt the dip of your waist and let his hand sit there comfortably. He pulled you closer and your arms wrapped around his neck instinctively. You finally separated from the kiss and Logan’s eyes locked on yours. He desperately wanted to hide the bright flush on his face despite the fact you had an even deeper flush coloring your own, but he didn’t have it in him to tear his eyes away. It warmed your heart seeing how he was still so easy to fluster even after so long together.
His eyes shone in the moonlight, the sun having disappeared below the horizon line long ago, leaving the moon and stars illuminating the dark of the hill you had parked on. The light caught on the corner of his thick glasses, reflecting like a spark somewhere in the car. You didn’t care to find it. All you wanted to see was right in front of you, after all.
Logan’s free hand found the center console between you, fingers silently tapping away as he thought the tension in the air was dissipating. Your eyes fall to his hand and you pick it up, bringing it to your lips and pressing a gentle kiss to his knuckles. He could feel the smile on your lips as you did, and it made him lay his head low to hide his boyish grin. A soft chuckle comes from you as you see his reaction, and he only turns his head to the side in further embarrassment. Cute. You reach out to tuck some hair behind his ear, tilting his head back to you in the process to meet your gaze.
“How about we get comfortable, hm?” Your voice comes out a soft whisper as you tilt your head slightly, hand slipping down the side of Logan’s face to gently trace along his jawline. “Backseat has more room.” You nod your head lightly to the backseat and keep eye contact, your smile soothing his ever-present nerves.
You both climb to the back and find yourselves sitting at opposite ends of the seats. This needs fixing. You quickly scooch over until you're well in his personal space, pressing so close that he’s cramped between you and the car door. His face lights up to a bright red as he looks down at you with a mix of embarrassment and bewilderment. You lean your head on his shoulder, looking up at him with a playful pout on your lips until he speaks up. By now, your face is practically glowing at the sound of his voice and the feeling of his eyes on you once more.
“What are you thinking?” He questions, his tone a mix of amusement and accusation as he holds back his smile. He pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose and you sit up, wrapping your arms around him tightly.
“Nothing. You were too far away.” Your eyes sparkle in the dull moonlight as you bring your face closer to his. “And it’s cold over there.” You add before burying your face in his shoulder, mumbling the words into his soft sweater.
“‘Over there’ is less than three feet away.” He counters, and his smile breaks through into a shy grin.
“Well three feet away is three feet too far.” You whine softly into his neck, nuzzling closer and squeezing him in your arms.
“Ah, I see. Good to know, my little cuddlebug.” Logan’s voice is gentle as always before he wraps his arm around your shoulders to hold you close, giving a firm squeeze in return before resting his head against yours.
Your hand slips onto his lap, tapping away absentmindedly until he picks it up in his. He brings the back of your hand up to his lips to press a feather-light kiss to your knuckles, pressing it gently to his cheek as he looks down at you after. His eyes are soft, his glasses slipping down just slightly, and his smile is reassuring as the night sky grows darker. He soon turns his gaze out the window, watching the stars up high and searching for his favorite constellations behind the haze of clouds passing by. You watch his eyes dart around curiously outside.
While Logan was occupied with his stargazing, you found yourself looking around outside too. Except not at the stars - you were curious about the empty hill, the dirt road surrounded by a thick layer of trees leading back down to the main road. The area was entirely empty apart from you and your little nerd, which gave you a slight boost in confidence.
With a soft hum, you let go of his hand to gently turn his face back to you. His gaze met yours with a mix of curiosity and confusion before you moved closer. You could see the slight flush of his skin beneath his glasses as you got closer, eliciting a soft breath from you that swept past his lips - which only made his blush darker. Your eyes fell down to the soft sight of his lips, less chapped than earlier, but still dry from being anxiously picked at all day. His hand mirrored your own as it landed lightly on his waist, his hand on yours, bringing the two of you even closer. The feeling of his breath against your lips and your faces so close together - the warmth of it all was exhilarating, but had an undertone of comfort because of the emotional closeness the two of you had built.
There was a gentle collision of your lips against his, the softness of your own almost soothing for him as he started to relax into your hold. Logan’s arms wrapped around your waist entirely, gently pulling you closer until you were chest to chest, and he let out a contented sigh against your lips. His breath sent a slow, pleasant shiver down your spine. Your hand moved from his jawline to cup his cheek, desperately holding his face close as the kiss grew deeper. He responds to the kiss as he always does; hesitant, almost scared to rush you - even though you’re going faster than him,- and a little stiff. He’ll learn to soften up eventually.
His skin felt hot to the touch as your hand slid down the side of his neck, stopping at his collarbone to trace it through his sweater. You felt him shiver in return, earning a sly smile from you against his lips before you wrap your arms around his neck. This action swayed his own arms to wrap around your waist tighter, pulling your body fully flush against his. The rise and fall of his chest grew more pronounced as he pulled away just far enough to catch his breath, and gave you an opportunity to move to his lap. You took it, of course. With a swift, fluid movement of your hips, you find yourself looking down at him, holding his face in your palms.
Your thighs either side of Logan’s hips, your mischievous smile, and the spark in your eyes made it so he could barely hold back his sheepish grin as he looked away. You only leaned closer to nuzzle against his cheek, letting out a quiet laugh. He let out a nervous chuckle as he hugged you back tightly and hid in the crook of your neck.
“Hey, we don’t have to do anything tonight.” You mumble softly, your voice a gentle reminder of the boundaries you had both set. You weren’t sure if he was ready for anything more yet, and that was okay.
You pull away slightly to look in his eyes, a hand moving to rest over his chest while your other gently pulls his face to look at you, thumb brushing over the apple of his cheek slowly. His small, still shy smile and hesitant nod were reassuring before he hid himself in your chest again. A low, warm chuckle leaves your chest at the kitten-like action, your hand moving from his cheek to gently play with his hair. Your fingers tangle gently, and he lets out a soft, quiet whine when you pause for a moment. You continue, only to hear his content whimpering against your chest, the vibration and soft sound feeling like a symphony of solace and warmth surrounding you both.
Your other hand moves slowly up and down his back in a soothing gesture as you sit there in silence together, gently scratching his back through his clothes on occasion. Logan was melting under your touch like you had the hands of a god. You press a flurry of kisses to his hair, gently tilting his head to the side to move your lips in a sprinkle of kisses all across his face. He reaches up to take his glasses off, but your hand on his back takes over for him and puts them aside on the seat next to you. You gently press him back into the carseat, letting him breathe as he lets his head fall back against the headrest.
His arms encircle your waist lazily as you’ve practically put him to sleep with your touches, his eyes falling shut as he lets out another sigh. You realise it’s been quite a while since you first arrived at the hill, and the moon is high, lighting up the night sky by now. You glance down at Logan’s watch, and it’s later than you thought. You hum to yourself and slowly move off his lap, ignoring his childish whine of protest as he tries to grab at your shirt. You make yourself comfortable laying across the backseats and pull him to lay on your chest instead. He hums with a smile as he snuggles close, wrapping his arms around you again as your own do the same to him. One hand slowly makes its way to his hair again, gently scratching at his scalp while your other slips under his sweater to rest against his bare back.
‘I’ll be here for you when you wake up.’ You wanted to say, but figured he was so relaxed already that bringing up the future might stress him out. Midnight isn’t too far away, after all. No need to get him stressed when he seems to blissed out and unaware of what’s to come. But either way, you’ll be there when he needs you.
You both lay there in silence, letting the moonlight shine across your tangled bodies through the tinted windows as you feel him start to drift off in your arms. ‘He’s safe with me.’ You know he is.
