Work Text:
”I’m literally going to kill you, Shen Wenlang.”
”So you’ve said, my love”, Wenlang mused, popping the cap of the oil bottle and pouring some on his hands. ”Come on, I’ll moisturize your bump.”
”I’ll moisturize your bump my ass”, Gao Tu muttered, still lifting his shirt and revealing his baby bump. At five months the bump was on the larger size, at least far larger than during their daughter. The extra weight along everything else made Gao Tu miserable, pregnancy hormones even stronger than before. He was irritable, sad and quick to anger, and Wenlang took it all. He comforted, released soothing pheromones, rubbed ointments and oils on the omega’s body, and didn’t flinch when he was told to go away by an upset omega. He sympathized with his whole heart, embraced Gao Tu and made sure to reassure him with a soft voice, that everything was okay and that they would get through this. Sometimes it was met with soft sniffles and a meek nod, an apology for being so irritated and a gentle kiss on his cheek. But sometimes it was only met with scoffs, quiet mumbles and complaints about whichever ache the omega was suffering from at the time. Wenlang didn’t mind.
There were lots of good times as well - happy times, when Gao Tu had slept better and the pain meds were working, when his back wasn’t all fucked up from sleep. It was those days that Wenlang held in his heart, the days where his mate smiled and held their kids, spoke with him softly and just exuded love and affection. Lucidity, it probably was, brain not muddled by hormones and pain.
Like with his previous pregnancy Gao Tu also experienced some… Intense bouts of horniness, despite not wanting to be looked at or touched at times. During those times the alpha just assured him he would close his eyes, that he would do as he wanted to make him feel good - and he always did. Penetration wasn’t really comfortable the further the pregnancy went on, but luckily during their shared years Wenlang had become an expert on pleasing his mate. He fingered him, ate him out and stroked his lover’s cock carefully, watched him come undone before his eyes. He gazed in amazement at Gao Tu’s body arching and heaving, almost vibrating with pleasure, his body keeping no secrets of his enjoyment. He was like a work of art in his eyes.
He loved it, even if his own pleasure was usually on the sidelines in those situations. Sometimes Gao Tu wanted to suck him off or give him a handjob, and he always let him. Most often the omega was too spent for that, though, and he was fine with that too. His affection and protectiveness had increased tenfold during this pregnancy, his heart clenching at his mate’s aches and pains.
When Gao tu had to spend the last few weeks of the pregnancy in hospital his heart was even more forlorn, refusing to leave his mate’s side for extended periods of time. He had taken a leave of absence from work earlier than usually, with no questions asked. He only had one job now, and it was to take care of his mate and unborn children. The good thing was that he was receiving pain medication that kept him a little happier than earlier, even if he didn’t enjoy having to stay in the hospital.
Dutifully Wenlang brought their kids to visit when he could manage it, Lele and Tian Xi staying on their best behavior and making sure they only hugged their father gently. Both of them were so sweet despite their excitement and missing their father, and he could only smile fondly at the sight of them sitting on the bed with Gao Tu between them. Faintly he wondered if things could’ve been different if his attitude had been different in their early days - if he could have convinced the omega to stop his suppressants while he was still in school, body still capable of bouncing back. Before there was damage that could’ve killed him.
He thought about their beginning, the tentative friendship they shared under the guise of being a beta and an alpha, the way Gao Tu had hidden his true self - out of necessity, but also out of the way he had spoken of his kind. Some of the situation they were in was his fault, he knew that, even if he had been forgiven, even if he had changed.
It was a fact he had accepted, the pain of it nowadays only a slight prick somewhere deep inside him. It helped that Gao Tu had shown no sign of holding it against him or blaming him for it, instead showering him with love and affection. It wasn’t the quiet kind of affection like before, when they were still two idiots not accepting their true selves, but the loud, unashamed and strong kind. The kind he needed.
He stayed silent as he thought about everything in their past that could’ve went wrong - his mate could have chosen to not return, to not let him know either of them. He wouldn’t have a daughter, no twins on the way, no escape from his past. He would’ve been alone, while Gao Tu could’ve found someone else to take care of him.
But he didn’t. He came back, gave him a chance, saved him, let him feel the joys of fatherhood, helped him forget the rigid rules of what he was taught an alpha was. Helped him find his own way, his confidence and sense of self - all things that couldn’t be measured in money. Wenlang knew he was lucky, but now that he looked at his family that was soon about to increase by two, he could only wonder how someone so wretched like him could end up so lucky, so happy. It was… Amazing.
“Daddy is crying”, his son deadpanned, making all three heads turn to him as he wiped at his eyes. His emotions had gotten too big to keep under wrap, eyes leaking almost without him noticing.
“Wenlang”, Gao Tu immediately asked, concern in his voice and his eyebrows furrowed softly.
“I’m fine, it’s okay”, he assured, chuckling wetly. His heart felt full, almost so big it couldn’t fit in his chest.
“Come here”, his mate asked, opening his arms invitingly.
“I’m fine, really, it’s nothing-”
“Wenlang, don’t make me haul my too pregnant ass over there. Come here.”
Their kids giggled softly as he sheepishly walked to the bed and let Gao Tu just embrace him, son and daughter shoving themselves gently into the gaps of their hug. “Just got emotional”, he muttered, breathing in the scent of his mate and family. Of home, of safety. “Everything is okay”, the alpha promised, smiling to himself at all the warmth and sweetness surrounding him.
The birth wasn’t that dramatic, though Wenlang had feared otherwise. He had feared there would be lots of rushed movements from the doctors, incessant beeping of different machines telling him of danger - but there was no such thing. Only a controlled calm in the operating room, him wearing scrubs to be able to be there next to Gao Tu and hold his hand. His mate was heavily medicated, numbed from chest to his toes. He was woozy, mostly just looking at him with foggy eyes, scent dulled and flat. “Feels funny”, he mumbled, a green curtain covering his bottom half from them. “Like I’m flying…”
“Maybe you are”, the alpha mused, holding Gao Tu’s hand in both of his arms. He couldn’t help worrying, even if he trusted all the doctors and other personnel around them. “Does anything hurt?”
“No”, his omega sighed, head lolling back slightly. “Just… Woozy.”
He smiled, keeping his eyes in his beautiful mate and just waited. He had done his reading about cesareans as well, and he knew it shouldn’t take too long for them to meet their twins. They were supposed to be boys, and secretly he yearned to hold them already.
Some time later, Wenlang wasn’t sure how much later, the beeping and quiet humming of the machines interrupted by the soft wails of a child. Immediately he perked up, both of their heads turning towards the noise. There was another wail added to the mix, two fresh beings clearly voicing their displeasure of being out of their warm home. Anxiously both of them waited, Gao Tu sniffling quietly, both of them just holding each other’s hand tightly.
“Here is baby number one”, a nurse smiled, laying a small bundle on the omega’s chest. “And here’s number two”, another chimed in, following the lead of his colleague. “Congratulations, both of you.”
Wenlang could only offer a weary and thankful smile to them, as they gazed at their newborns. Both of them perfect, identical to each other, a hint of his nose and Gao Tu’s eyes on their faces. Two beautiful little boys, a perfect addition to their family.
“Hello, little ones”, the alpha whispered, touching their tiny faces gently. “They’re perfect, my love.”
“I feel empty”, his mate said woozily, smiling down at their children. “They’re smaller than I thought…”
They were given a little time with their kids, before they were collected by the nurses to be set in their own wheeled beds. Wenlang was asked to leave the room as well as they patched Gao Tu up, and reluctantly he let go of his hand. He kept looking back as he left the room, heart aching and missing his other half.
Still, he returned to their private room where a nurse was setting up their twins. She smiled at him softly, reassuring him that his mate would be back from his procedure soon, and the only thing Wenlang could do was believe. He quietened his fear of losing Gao Tu by sitting down and looking at his two sons, listening to their quiet sniffles and coos. They were smaller than Tian Xi as a baby, that was true, and thus seemed even more fragile to him. To think that these were the two causing so much extra weight on his poor mate, coming out so perfect it was all worth it. It was a quiet moment with just the three of them, a father and two sons just existing in the same space. Wenlang loved it, and silently cried a few tears more.
”They’re wrinkly like Tian Xi was.”
”Yes they are, Lele.”
”They were inside your tummy?”
”That’s right, Xixi. Just like you were when you were only a little baby.”
”How did they go inside your tummy?”
”… We can discuss that at home, my loves. Wenlang… Stop. Laughing.”
