Work Text:
“So we know that the Metropolitan Museum has our stuff, right? When we went there last week we all found things that used to belong to us.”
The three vampires in front of me nodded, some paying more attention than others. The four of us gathered at my place for board games and gossip weekly, and Salem was probably more interested in finding the Cards Against Humanity deck than he was in my spiel.
I continued nonetheless.“Silas saw some old journals that he misplaced, Cassie saw that fabric of hers that stopped production in the 1800s, Salem found that treasured locket that he lost centuries ago, and they had that old goblet of mine from when I was a fledgling.”
Silas hummed as he brought out a ‘Bottle of Crimson’ from the fridge. “Which, might I add, is quite rude of the curators. Those journals were personal. Do you want this warmed?”
“Exactly!” I threw my hands down on the counter. “It is in no way the museum’s business to have our possessions. Yes please.”
Silas filled a pot with water and set it on the stove to boil, placing the bottle in it and looking back at me as he finished. “And what is it that you’re proposing? That we steal them back? I hate to say it, Em, but the Metropolitan Museum has triple the security than anywhere else we’ve pulled a heist.”
“I mean… Yes, a heist was what I was leading up to. Don’t you want your journals back, Silas? Salem? Cas? We can do something about it!”
Cassie leaned on the counter across from me, not seeming too opposed to my idea. “I say it doesn’t hurt to try. What’s the worst thing they can do, arrest us? How many times have you broken out of jail, Salem?”
Salem looked up from where he was buried in the game cabinet. “I think like… six? It’s not all too difficult.”
Cassie looked to her side where Silas was. “Hear Mercy out before shutting her down. It’s not a fool's plan if the fools are vampires, okay?”
Silas only hummed in response.
“Anyways…” I pulled the TV remote from my pocket, “I made a presentation to correctly express my plan.” I hit the power button and the screen across from the kitchen flicked to life, displaying a presentation titled “How to steal from the Metropolitan Museum”
I heard Salem mutter “as always”, but I decided to ignore it. PowerPoint presentations were the funnest and most efficient way to plan a heist.
“We’ve already established we all have things we want back from the Metropolitan Museum. But the real question is how would we do it? Well I'm glad you asked. You see-” I clicked to the next slide, skipping the one about why we need to pull the heist in the first place. “-the four of us are lucky enough to bypass security cameras. That obviously makes it easier, as we’ve seen in the past. It will not, however, help us against security guards. It’s never been much of a problem for us in the past, but it’s still something to be weary of.”
The next slide showed a map of the museum. “It would probably be best to enter through a security or employees only door. Salem would have to pick the lock, but I’m pretty sure he can get into anywhere. Cassie and Salem would then provide a distraction on the other side of the museum while me and Silas move to get our belongings.”
The next slide had an ordered list, specific steps so that the heist goes right. “You two have made some pretty good distractions in the past, and this time we’ll need something that gets most of the night guards cleared from the exhibits we’re stealing from. Split up if you need to. I’ll let y’all figure out what you’re doing, I don’t know if I’m the best at planning those.”
Salem nodded, crossing his arms and looking at Cassandra, who seemed to understand what I was saying. Silas was correct, the security at this museum would be more intense than we’re used to, but it was still far from impossible.
The rest of the presentation went smoothly, everyone seeming in agreement about my plan. I had spent enough time researching that there was very little to do before the execution of the heist. I clicked to the last slide, looking at my companions to prompt questions.
“I was planning to do it next weekend, or Friday if you all want to skip game night. I figured that would give us enough time to work out the fine details?”
“Friday seems best, I have an event on Saturday.” Cassie hummed, “Any objections?”
The others muttered agreement, though Silas huffed a bit at the thought of missing out on a game night.
The stove beeped, signaling that the water had reached the temperature it was set to. Silas turned the heat down, grabbing the tongs to pull the bottle out of the pot and pouring it into cups.“Drinks are done, are we good to start the games?”
I nodded, turning off the TV and setting the remote above the fireplace. Salem let out a cheer, slamming a few card games on the counter and grabbing one of the glasses.
