Farmer Maggot

Summary:

Farmer Maggot can’t take anymore of little Frodo Baggins stealing his mushrooms. Or so he says.

Notes:

Tolkientober 2026, prompt #22: HARVEST.

I’m not a writer, English is not my first language and the fic is also unbetaed, so... Sorry! :D

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Farmer Maggot screamed at the little thief that had just ran away with a bunch of mushrooms in his hands.

He grumbled about that Frodo Baggins and his thieving habits.

“You know,” reproached him his wife: “You could avoid all that if you put a fence around the fields!”

“Bah,” Maggot answered, “It’s not like he’s really damaging our harvest! It’s just a few mushrooms…”

“I know, but with a fence, it would be zero mushrooms stolen,” she teased him.

He sighed: “If I build a fence, he will stop coming!” he confessed: “And I kind of like the boy!”

Notes:

I’m currently listening to The Lord of the Rings audiobook and I recently listened to the part concerning Old Maggot, and he was a more interesting character than I remembered. I also read a post online that agreed with me, pointing out how, among other things, he stood his ground against the Nazgul, so I felt I wanted to write about him!

Thanks for reading! ^^
