Work Text:

All thirteen Dwarves were visiting Hobbiton for Bilbo’s birthday.

They got along with the Hobbits pretty easily.

Fili and Kili, in particular, had felt so at home that had started good-naturedly making fun of the Hobbits’ habit to have a song for every occasion. At every new one the orchestra played, they asked Bilbo: “What is this about? Making tea? Watering the garden?”

Bilbo accepted their antics with good humour, answering truthfully.

But when his favourite song started playing and the brothers asked if it was ‘to help you go in the bathroom’, Bilbo said, with a very serious tone: “No, this is a song for lovers. If you dance to its tunes the person you love will declare their affection for you very soon!”

Without a word, Fili left them and joined the dances, trying a bit awkwardly to copy the other dancers moves.

Bilbo and Kili looked at him in surprise.

“You know that was a joke, right?” asked Bilbo.

Kili nodded: “I know, but I don't think he does!”

A moment later, another Dwarf joined the dance: Ori went straight to Kili, and the two started dancing together.

“Uh,” commented Kili: “look at that: the song worked!”
