Fuck, he's such an idiot. There is zero, zero, reason for him to be asking that. Maybe he can disguise it as not wanting to get startled if some stranger suddenly shows up in the yard, but then, Erling's actually the stranger in the yard.
Jude makes a little scoffing sound, rolling his eyes in a way that piques Erling's interest. "No, he works during the week—it's just me here, except for nights and weekends, unless he's traveling." He gives Erling a little once-over, much more innocent and assessing than what Erling had been doing to him, and says, "If you end up coming back, it'll probably always just be me, honestly."
OR: Erling is a college student on summer break who does yard work for a rich, older, married Jude (and they fuck).
