What they don’t say

Summary:

Bakugo makes breakfast and Midoriya has a bad morning.

Work Text:

Everyone assumed the war fixed everything. People moved on. Aizawa stayed at UA. Which I don’t think surprised anyone. All Might got on with his retirement. Class 1A followed their hero careers and now we all fight each other for ratings.

So maybe Aizawa staying and us all competing against each other isn’t anything new.

But what no one ever seems to fucking talk about is the scars it left on all of us. And I’m not talking about the physical scars. Those are easier to deal with. I’m talking about the mental ones. The nightmares, the panic attacks, the hallucinations he sometimes gets of Shigaraki.

Or waking up at two AM because your partner is screaming in his sleep or to him thrashing around as if he’s fighting something that isn’t there. And maybe he is. Hell knowing Deku he probably fights villains even in his dreams.

No one ever fucking talks about that and they should. They fucking should. Because why the hell is it considered cowardice to go to fucking therapy?

Maybe I’m just done with all this bullshit. Do you want to know the real reason Izuku is no longer a hero? It’s not because of his body. No that’s what he says so assholes don’t judge him and I can’t blame him.

It’s more appropriate to say I can’t do something because my body is messed up than saying I can’t do something because my brain is all fucked up and thinks shadows are villains getting ready to attack me in my own apartment.

So yeah, that’s my fucking problem.

I’m currently in the kitchen cooking breakfast because it’s my day off and it’s the weekend meaning Izuku doesn’t have work.

Also, I like cooking and making sure he eats cause that man may have played a big part in ending the war, but that doesn’t mean he can take care of himself.

So I flip another pancake. When I got up this morning he was still curled up on his side of the bed. He slept through the night which he hasn’t done in a while.

I on the other hand had a hard time sleeping in general. Ever since I died I have had a hard time going to sleep because I’m afraid I won’t wake up and Edgeshot won’t be there to save me this time.

So yeah, sleep is hard.

Add it to the list of things everyone chooses not to talk about.

But it’s fine. Work is fine and living with Izuku is great. I love that idiot. And I’m glad he decided not to date Uraraka cause if he did well I would have had to kill her; that’s all.

Anyway, the pancakes are almost done. Extra fluffy the way ‘Zuku likes. I turn off the stove and flip them onto the plate. “Deku breakfast!” I call out. Usually he’s up by now anyway. Knowing him he’s awake and lying in bed.

As much as I want to call him lazy for it if anyone deserves to do that it’s him. He doesn’t respond so I call for him again. No response. Maybe he’s still sleeping.

Though he’s not exactly a heavy sleeper. I once turned onto my side and woke him up.

Maybe he wants breakfast in bed. The nerd always wants everyone to serve him.

Who am I kidding? I’d follow him to hell if that’s where he wanted to go. In fact, I think I’ve already done that.

I put the pancakes on two separate plates and grab forks and the syrup because he likes everything as sweet as possible.

I go into the bed room excepting to find him half under the covers still but he’s not in the bed. “Deku?” I call out. Nothing I frown and put the food down on the dresser. “Izuku?” I call again

That’s when I notice the door to the bathroom is closed. I walk over to it and knock on the door frame. “Izuku, I’m coming in,” and then I push open the door.

His clothes are on the floor and I find him curled up in the bathtub. Knees to his chest crying. I walk over and crawl in behind him in the tub. It’s not the first time I’ve found him like this.

What happens is he undresses then gets a glance of himself in the mirror and suddenly he’s back to whatever hell his mind likes to take him. I wrap my arms around him as he sobs. “It’s ok. I’m here. You’re safe. You’re in our apartment. There are pancakes waiting for you. Everyone’s safe. Ok? Everyone’s safe,” I say those words over and over until eventually he comes back to me and settles against my chest.

He presses his face into my shoulder and I let him. We sit like that in silence for a long time. “You made pancakes?” He finally asks.

And I hold back a laugh because of course that’s the first thing he asks. I kiss the top of his head. “Extra fluffy,”

He looks up at me. “I’ll shower while you heat them up,” he says.

“Don’t take too long cause if you do I’ll eat yours too,” I threaten.

He plants a kiss on my cheek. “Deal now get out before I get you wet too,”

I hum. “As much as I’d enjoy a shower with you food first,” he gives me a look and then hits me in the arm.

I throw my hands up and climb out of the tub. “Fine fine. I’m leaving,” I make my way out of the bathroom and stand in the doorway “I’m gone,” and then I close the door.

God, do I love that man.
