Chapter Text

Nurses and doctors rushed around the group after Ace had explained what had happened, taking Ryuko into a room with Rumi following.

Uiko led Alice into another room for a check up.

Evelyn follows another nurse into a room, carefully placing Jinni on the bed inside.

Garaki simply waited for the situation to play out and calm itself down. At this point, he didn't remember exactly all of the hospitals he'd worked at; so he waited outside, hoping none of the staff would notice him.

A nurse came up to Evelyn who was watching them check over Jinni through the window of her room "Excuse me, miss?"

Evelyn turned to look at her with a raised eyebrow "Yes?"

The nurse looked slightly nervous under Evelyn’s cool gaze.

"We checked over her, but were wondering about her quirk."

"What about it?"

"It appears, she doesn't have one."

Evelyn looked just as confused as the nurse does. Why was Jinni down there with the rest of them if she didn't have a quirk…?

"Excuse me" She mumbled, walking away to go and find Ace.

One she found her in the hallway, Evelyn tapped her lightly on the arm "Who is that Jinni girl?"

"I don't think I should answer that question quite yet," She quickly applied a cold and business-like demeanor as soon as she started talking to Evelyn.

Evelyn huffed and rolled her eyes, crossing her arms in annoyance "She's quirkless."

"Well that’s a little strange, isn't it Evie?" Ace leaned back into a wall.

"Stop it Queenie. I don't know what is going on and you're acting like more of a bitch than usual.”

“You told me I've lost memories and yet refuse to tell me what is actually going on. If you don't start talking then maybe I'll start taking a little more interest in your very obvious relationship with the little green girl." Evelyn threatened.

Ace quickly ripped a card off of her skin, spinning around to face Evelyn, "Touch her and I'll cut you from navel to throat," she pressed the sharp card against her carotid.

Evelyn let out a low chuckle, and pressed closer to Ace, allowing the card to be dangerously close to actually slicing her neck.

"Well someone's changed their quirk." She smirked, pressing a knife in her hand against Ace’s femoral artery.

"You know I can move just as quickly, so it’s up to you. Kill me, and die at the same time leaving your precious girlfriend all alone... Or tell me what’s happening." Evelyn was fully serious in what she was saying. Whatever version of her that Ace had come to know wasn't to be found.

"Alright Evelyn, you wanna know what shit you missed?” Ace hissed

“Huge villain attack a year ago, we handled it like pros. Callum didn't like that you helped my crew so you guys got in a fight. Ended with a scuffle and I somehow got dragged into it, made me a little mad.”

“Turns out when I get too angry I become a huge flame monster that apparently likes to destroy both buildings and people. I ended up killing two people from my team. One of which, was Bunny. Another casualty was your fucking mentor," She paused to stop for breath, and to see Evelyn's look of horror when she found out Callum was dead for the second time.

"Flash forward a year, we both end up at UA in the hero course. We hate eachother for a while and try to kill the other on multiple occasions. Eventually we become best friends with strange sexual tension.”

“A bit later Jinni, otherwise known as the blonde bitch semi-unconscious over there, shows up. You guys start dating and eventually get engaged for pretty dumb reasons. On the other side of the spectrum, I met my girlfriend and we're extremely happy now. You and me almost ruined that for good because we fucked and kinda tried to date.”

“Shit happened and Jinni somehow became All For One's apprentice and then you and Alice were kidnapped and brought to that base. We were trying to find you for days with the help of your terrible AI that also leaked a sextape of us. Any questions?"

"You- he- and Jinni and I-" Evelyn looked like she was in pain from what she just learnt and stumbled back from the girl, sheathing the knife before dropping onto a nearby bench. She started glowing, the gold fading in and out around her as she entered into a full blown panic attack.

Evelyn’s body almost looked like it was almost glitching as she shook, tears streaming down her face as she took gasping breaths. In less than a minute, Ace had managed to completely shatter, then rebuild, then shatter her world again.

Ace sits next to her on the bench, wrapping her arm around her tightly, "Do you see why I wanted to wait to tell you anything?"

Evelyn whimpered and tried to move away from Ace, not wanting the girl to touch her; for good reason too. Ace’s arm started to glow and glitch in time with Evelyn’s "How did I forget all this…?" She whispered out, looking at her hands.

Ace shrugged, "Could be a number of things. Physical trauma, quirk misuse, maybe experimentation..."

Evelyn nodded slowly, "And Jinni is my..."

"Yes dear… fiance "

Evelyn looked down at the ring on her finger, now understanding why she had it, and the reason for the placement on her hand. She then looked at her clothing, finally noticing what she was wearing. "I really let myself go after Callum died, huh-"

"You weren't the only one that lost someone," Ace brought her knees to chest, and looked over to her friend, "You lost a mentor and I lost my first love."

"Sorry for threatening your girlfriend... I'm guessing that was also out of character for how you know me now."

"I mean not really. You're still a fucking bitch when you want to be, but this is the first you've actively threatened her life, so points for that I guess."

Evelyn stopped glowing, calming down from her panic "It's… weird, talking to you like this. You're always so stiff and boring."

"Wow, stiff and boring? That's harsh Evs, I'm wounded," she let out a small chuckle.

Evelyn gave her a small smile, "It's nice hearing you actually use my name and not call me birdie. Come to think of it, I hate that name. 'Birdie'"

"It was pretty bad to be honest. It doesn't even make sense, because you teleport, so why a bird?"

"I don't know. But if you ever come up with a better one, feel free to tell me." Evelyn stood up and stretched, her muscles still cramped from being in the cage for so long.

"I suppose I'd better go and see my, um… fiancé " she shivers a little at the word, unsure of how she felt about it.

"Have fun you little freak," Ace winked at her, before stretching out on the bench.

"I'm guessing there's more meaning to that than you're letting on, but whatever" Evelyn flipped her hair, before walking back into Jinni’s room.

She stood in the doorway, leaning against the frame as she looked at the small blonde who she was supposed to be completely and utterly in love with.

Jinni opened her eyes and first saw Eve standing in the doorway frame. Weakly, she spoke up, “H-Hello...”

Evelyn gulped as she looked at her "...Hi." She gave her a small wave, and continued to stand in the doorway, unsure of what to do.

“I-I’m sorry… Three days. He had you for three days… I should have known he found out about you… Us...”

Evelyn stepped closer, twisting the ring on her finger nervously as she carefully listened to what Jinni was saying.

Jinni turned her head and looked away from Eve and out the window of her hospital room. “I failed us...”

She weakly lifted one of her hands, and stared at it. “And...it’s gone...my quirk...I knew I would lose it...I just didn’t see him take it...I froze.”

"Jinni..." Evelyn looked at her mournfully "I um..."

“I...I was able to hear, Eve...felt it really...” She turned to face Eve. “We were connected...”

She laughed, as tears streamed down her face. “Also, you and Ace were right outside my door.”

Evelyn could easily see how she fell in love with Jinni. The blonde hair, the piercing green eyes that were almost the same color as her own, the way she looked at Evelyn with utter devotion.

Jinni was beautiful, and from what Evelyn could tell, kind hearted and caring, despite what Ace had called her. It killed Evelyn to know that she was supposed to love Jinni, but she felt nothing more than the light feeling of a crush starting.

Hearing Jinni’s confession and the pain in her voice; knowing that she knew, brought fresh tears to Evelyn’s eyes "I'm sorry." She managed to choke out.

She walked to the bed, perching on the edge and looking down at the ring that glinted on her hand, the eyes of the fox twinkling up at her. "I'm so sorry…"

Jinni shook her head. “It’s my fault...whatever shock I went through...that must be what affected you in the first place...like when that time I messed with time...all ‘cause I had such a huge crush on you.”

Jinni laughed loudly at the prospect, “I know that doesn’t make sense to you, but...I guess what I’m trying to say, amnesia or not, and quirk or not, I will protect you and love you. You’re the first member of my family after all.”

Evelyn’s tears slowed as she mulled over what Jinni had said. She didn't know what to say or how to feel. She felt the butterflies in her stomach again, and didn't know how to feel about them "You travelled through time for me?"

Jinni blushed. “I-I only changed one thing. A conversation that never happened and now happened, changed everything for the both of us. Life was good...till I made the decision to infiltrate the League of Villains all by myself... You getting captured has to be my fault...”

"And I let you do that?" Evelyn sounds slightly annoyed, but more with herself than anything. The League of Villians was nothing to mess with.

Ryuko was currently being checked over by a nurse, who was flashing a light in her eyes. Ryukos pupils weren't fully reacting, so the nurse sighed and stepped away, turning to Rumi "She's got a bad concussion and shouldn't be in the field for a couple of weeks."

"I understand. Sorry again, love. If I knew it was you, I wouldn't have flipped you so hard." she gently held Ryuko's hand.

Ryuko gave her a smile, "That’s okay…" She lifted Rumi’s hand up, looking at it fondly "Your hands are pretty."

"Love, you need to go ahead and rest, so you can get better soon."

The nurse chuckled, "She's currently on a few drugs to deal with the pain so she'll be a bit out of it for the rest of the day." She picked up a small bottle of pills and handed them to Rumi "Get her to take one one of these every morning, for the rest of the week then none for the week after.”

“She can have them if she needs them for the pain, but she should be fine after the first week. She'll also be extremely out of it while on them so you'll probably have to take care of her, unfortunately."

Rumi nodded, humming "I'm fine with taking care of her, it's no trouble at all."

Ryuko swung her legs back and forth over the edge of the bed, playing with Rumi’s hand. She looked up at her when the nurse mentioned Rumi having to take care of her, a smirk forming on her face, "Hmmmmmmm, I get you all to myself"

Rumi laughed a little, "Yep, you sure do."

"Right, well here are the discharge papers, fill them out and just leave them in here. Then you can head home!" The nurse left the pair in the room, smiling as she shut the door.

"We can go home?" Ryuko sounded excited, as she continued to play with Rumi’s hand.

Rumi filled out the paper, nodding "Mhm!"

"Promise?"

Rumi chuckled, shaking her head to herself "Yes, Ryu, we’re going now."

"Yay!"

Ryuko jumped down off the bed, swaying on her feet, "RUUUUUmiiiii let's gooooooo…!"

"Okay, love. But I'm carrying you home."

"Ooooh goodie-" She reached across to her girlfriend and tugged on one of her ears. "Your ears are attached to your headdd."

Rumi’s cheeks flushed, stammering "W-we're in public, love."

"What about being in public? It’s just your earrrrrssssss… that are attached to your head for some reason."

"Don't pull on them in public, love. You remember how sensitive they are, right?"

"Sensitive howwww?" Ryuko pouted, letting go of Rumi’s ear.

Rumi explained, sighing "Whenever you pull on them, I get riled up."

Ryuko took Rumi’s face in her hands and looked into her eyes, "You're very pretty and have soft and fluffy ears."

"Thanks, love." She scooped Ryuko up to carry her home.

Ryuko giggled and squirmed a little in Rumi’s arms "You’re strong as well as pretty?" she gasped out, looking up at her girlfriend in wonder.

"You know it, love." Rumi grinned, slightly shaking her head.

Leaving the discharge documents, Rumi carried Ryuko into a car and promptly head home.

Bored of laying on a bench, Ace wandered out of the hospital and spotted the old doctor sitting outside, "Must be lonely by yourself, monsieur."

Looking up briefly to see Ace "Can't risk seeing my past coworkers is all. Is everyone in stable condition?" Garaki questioned.

"I believe so, sir," She went to sit by him, "I never caught your name, but I'm Ace."

Garaki responded to Ace quickly "Doctor Kyuudai Garaki."

A portal opened up, bringing two girls through it, “Quit your whining Jane, it was only one hellish monster you saw. Once I close the portal it’ll be… Who knows how long till either of us open this quirk again.” The younger one turned to her nervous older sister.

Jane was on the ground holding her knees to the chest. “D-Demons…hell…real…”

“Am I, Jona, the only triplet with the guts to face down the reality of real demons and not curl up into a crying ball of shame?”

Jona thought about it for a moment. “No… Jinni even if she’s a dumb ass, was… too brave to stick around AFO…or an idiot.”

Jona looked around, finally taking note of AFO’s quirk-stealing doctor. She decided to walk over to him and the woman he sat next to.

“So good doctor… Is it you, or AFO I have to thank for taking my sister’s quirk away?”

In confusion at the newcomer's sudden accusation, Garaki questioned "I'm sorry...? Who are you?"

“Wow doc. Don’t recognize the family resemblance? I’m hurt.” Jona mock smiled at the doctor. “I’m Jona Katima. Jinni Katima’s young but stronger twin.”

Ace exhaled, "Jona, it's great to meet you in the flesh. But maybe don't kill the man that helped us save your sister."

She turned to face Ace. “Oh. Hey. It’s you... Helped?” She then turned back to the doctor. “Explain…Please?”

Still baffled, Garaki muttered "Alright then, that's a very vague question..."

"From security cameras, I could see that All For One and Jinni were in the same room before All For One left. Nothing had been done to Jinni after All For One left. During the chaos of the rescue group coming in, I couldn't watch the cameras; and the next time I saw Jinni, she was unconscious on the floor.”

“I brought said group to help get her out immediately after seeing." Garaki informed.

“So what? AFO comes back, and steals a useless powerful quirk to fight All Might?”

Garaki raised an eyebrow “That wouldn’t be a very productive fight, All Might’s retired.”

He shook his head "But no, All For One was present in a different location the entire time... In fact he was on live television. Pretty easy for anyone to check."

Jona, was very confused, “Then how did she lose her quirk? No one else in that group of heroes had the power to steal a quirk or had the knowledge of how to medically extract one. It just doesn’t add up…”

Ace mumbled "I mean my parents managed to do it, so theoretically anyone with enough quirk knowledge could take away a quirk..."

“Jinni has more than enough quirk knowledge, but she wouldn’t do it. That’s like…self amputation. And I couldn’t find my shitty sister. And Jane there, is terrified of the world.” Jona gestured towards the younger sister, still on the ground.

Garaki shrugged "I don't know how to help ya, kiddo."

Deciding to mention something, "But, before I assisted with getting everyone out, Miruko suggested I go to someone called 'Nezu'? Unfortunately, she just left with her girlfriend and now I have no idea what to do about that."

"Well Jinni is somewhere in the hospital so go see her," Ace turned back to Garaki, "And I can help you with Nezu."

“Yeah…I’ll try not to break her when I see her.” Jona turned to face Jane. “First I need to fix one of my sisters.” She muttered as she walked towards her.

Garaki nodded at Ace briefly, "Thank you."

Garaki turned to Ace after Jona had left, asking "So, do you mind elaborating on that...?"

"On what? Jinni and her weird sisters or seeing Nezu?"

He responded bluntly, "Seeing Nezu, I have no interest in Jinni's family matters."

She chuckled lightly, "Of course, Doctor. I can just contact him to see what his schedule is and we'll get everything sorted."

Jona turned to face Ace and Garaki again after looking down at her phone. “Hey you two! We’re gonna be heading back to U.A. if you want a ride we can take you.”

Jona caused a golden, lightning-bolt shaped crack to appear behind her. “Plus my way is definitely more fun.”

“Plus, exploring the unknown of quirks is your thing right, good doctor?”

Garaki grinned, “Oh, absolutely.”

"Oh great more teleportation, how could I resist?" Ace wearily stepped towards the strange yellow shape, Garaki in tow.

—--

Another tear in the world, colored a glowing purple, appeared on UA campus. The first one out being Jane, then Garaki and Jona and Ace together leaping out of the tear before Jona quickly caused it to dissipate.

“Ugh…other realities are not fun…but I think we’re back home…”

Ace leaned over to clutch her knees, attempting to not puke right then, "Remind me to never trust your fucking skills again..."

“I was literally in a ball on the ground over the fact that she opened a portal to a dimension filled with literal demons!” Jane spoke up. “I’m no longer going through your portals or teleporting around with you again!”

“Yeah. Whatever you say.” Jona said, checking her phone. “Well doctor, thoughts?”

Brushing off his coat, he muttered "Quite the... environment." He huffed in slight relief before questioning "Later, could you perhaps demonstrate this quirk again? I'd like to see what can be done with it...!"

“Umm…may be a bit hard to find that specific quirk again, but sure. Anyways we gotta go meet Eve. Have fun with Nezu.” Jona then grabbed Jane and ran off with her.

Garaki nodded, somewhat conflicted. Glancing around, he proceeded to slowly make his way towards the front of the school.

Ace strode over to the doctor to stop him from going too far from her, "You're stuck with me for at least a little while longer, monsieur."

Pausing for a moment, Garaki huffed and nodded "Fair enough, I wouldn't want to upset the heroes in any way... I've got no Nomus for self-defense."

She smiled softly at him before turning her gaze to the huge school grounds, "I'm honestly a little disappointed that I never got to fight one of the Nomus. From what I saw they were super exciting to beat the shit out of."

Ace turned her gaze down to her phone.

Ace: do you doubt my ability to stop an old guy?

Nezu! ✊ 🐭: More so your commitment, but thank you regardless

Garaki thought for a moment  before mentioning "They should still be alive... They're just imprisoned, I'm sure..."

"Sucks that I'm semi-retired then, or else I'd be all over that case..."

"All in good time, Ace-san. I'm sure that you'll see plenty of action once you've got the proper licensing, here." The principal approached the two, a smile plastered onto his face

Addressing the other, some scepticism showing "And who might you be, sir...?"

"Proper license my ass," She grumbled.

The doctor turned to the smaller one. It took a moment for Garaki to register the other in front of him, before giving a smile in return "You must be Nezu, then..! Goodness, I've had introduce myself at least five times today now... Dr. Kyuudai Garaki."

Nezu's smile turned visibly more acerbic "Yes indeed, I am! I've heard quite a bit of you already, Garaki-san. It is certainly a pleasure to meet you in person!"

Garaki chuckled, tilting his head "I'm sure that was a bit of a fib, there. Don't blame me, though, t'was Miruko-san's idea to send me over here."

"Nonsense, not at all." He chuckled, "And what exactly did Miruko-san propose I do?" Nezu said, turning to Ace "I... suppose you might as well come inside, then."

Garaki shrugged "I honestly have no idea, it was a tradeoff. Make it so I didn't go to prison, and in return; my help in freeing the prisoners was given. There was no point in letting them stay  and waste my resources after Shigaraki-sama was defeated."

"So, why wouldn't I?"

Garaki chuckled, nodding along as he followed "Splendid" He commented off-handedly.

Ace follows the pair, not exactly sure why she was to follow them, "If you don't mind, sir, I can give you a preliminary report of the mission after the Doctor is accommodated. "

Nezu nodded, approvingly “Thank you Ace-San, that would be appreciated.”

Tomura was exhausted as he and Dabi returned to the main campus of UA, back from one of the training grounds they’d visited to test out the quirks he’d received from the fight with AFO, but the minor endurance quirk he'd been given, was one of the only things keeping him on his feet.

Dabi followed beside him, watching the gate grow closer. Much to his dismay, he realized it was probably time to tell him what Toga had asked.

"Hey Crusty.. Toga texted me, she's on campus." his posture was tense, he was clearly nervous about this, though like usual doing his best not to show it. He paused for a moment, trying to figure out how best to word this, "She's with your sister.. they want to see you, think that'll be.. Alright?"

Tomura glanced to Dabi, tucking the notebook he was holding under his arm and pausing for a moment to process what he just said. After a second, he nodded "Yeah, that's okay. I want to see them too…"

"They should be at the gate, though that was a while ago.." he paused, "I'll just send them a text, let them know we're coming.." he pulled out his phone from his pockets, beginning to draft a message.

Toga was bouncing in place as she noticed the two approaching the gate "SHIGGY! DABI" She squealed, waving her hands.

Glancing over to the noise, Tomura saw Toga and somewhat smiled, giving a small wave back. Then, Alice, who was standing next to her, caught his eye. He quickened his pace, to the dismay of the very tired Dabi next to him.

Approaching Alice, Tomura asked her with a gentle tone "Hey Alice...! Are you... doing okay...?"

Alice nodded "I'm fine." her tone still held no emotions, her dull eyes stared up at him as a small smile graced her face.

Tomura paused briefly, processing what exactly was going on as he gazed at his sister "Alice..." his eyes teared up a little "I'm so sorry, Alice..."

He slowly moved to wrap his arms around her, careful not to move too suddenly.

Alice tensed a bit before the mental wall holding back her emotions finally broke, the events that happened finally crashing onto her as she finally processed what was happening.

Seeing the tears in her brother's eyes, the sadness in his eyes made her own eyes water. She started to cry while she buried her head in Tomura's shoulder, all while she whispered constant apologies.

Tomura held onto her tightly, dropping his notebook and whispering back in response "I-it's gonna be okay, Alice... You're out of there... I won't let anyone hurt you again..." His voice cracked as he spoke, shutting his eyes.

Alice simply nodded, not wanting to let go of Tomura, "I'm sorry…!" she said through her sobbing as she hugged him tightly.

"Don't be sorry, ‘lil sis... None of this is your fault.." He tried to help calm her down. gently patting her back.

Alice shook her head "I left without saying anything, then for three days I made you worried" she started to shake "I'm sorry"

A bit more sternly, he stated; shaking his head "Alice... none of this is your fault. Don't blame it on yourself, please..."

Alice only nodded before pulling away slightly, still holding onto him "Can we see dad?" She asked softly, her sobbing had subsided, and was reduced to sniffles.

Tomura nodded, somewhat quietly muttering "Yeah, I'll get him as soon as possible..." He opened his eyes and glanced up slightly to Toga "Let's all head inside, okay?"

Toga nodded "I'm sorry too, by the way, Shiggy" she pouted, rubbing at her arm and picking up the dropped notebook "I didn't know her entire body would go into shock…"

Genuinely, Tomura nodded back "I'm just glad everyone's..." He paused for a moment "I'm glad most came back alive..."

Toga nodded "Let's hurry, I'm sure Alice would probably feel more safe inside."

Tomura nodded, glancing to Dabi briefly and gesturing to the school building. He looked back to Alice and gave her a weak, but genuine smile before starting to walk inside with her.

.

..

..

.

A few days later…

Noticing it was getting late, Tomura paused and looked to his dad "You think we could squeeze this last one in...?"

They’d been testing out the quirks Tomura had received in the fight with All For One, for the past few hours, a wide variety of uses among them. From turning matter to gold at a single touch, to the traits of a dragonfly.

Nezu gave off a small yawn "We're already almost done, are we now? That went quicker than expected. Got yourself quite the arsenal there" He chuckled. Long day, wasn't it? Maybe they could take tomorrow off, a short day trip to Kinosaki perhaps?

"Alright! Let's see what this one does... "

As Tomura activated the quirk, he realized something wasn't quite right. It wasn't dispelling outwards like Tomura felt it would, just building up more. Gaining a panicked look, he glanced to Nezu "Dad- Something's wrong, I can't stop it- What's g-"

Tomura was suddenly cut off by a bright flash of light, like a flare.

"TOMU!"
