Midnight: A Prelude

Chapter 6: Alot to Consider

Summary:

"This is so unfair! Why did it have to be her..."

"Is this the truth that I've been searching for... Have my feelings been all for nothing?"

"If so... How could I've been so reckless... I should've thought of this through. How could've I inadvertently hurt someone I already know..."

"Why have I done this... How could she leave me... How can I face them alone knowing this is all my fault... It's all my fault."

Notes:

Hey there, Easternborder here!

Fixing the last part wasn't easy. I had to make the lines understandable and romantic as much as possible. This is sorta Tobey's POV but with more explanation with his feelings.

Enjoy!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"How is your cheek?" Asked Claire.

"Less painful. Still hurts when I touch it." Winces the blonde inventor.

"If it gets worse, I can drive you to the hospital instead." She shifts to a higher gear.

"It's fine Mother. It'll eventually go away."

"Fine?" Doubted his mother. "What happened to you yesterday wasn't fine at all! What have you been doing these past couple of weeks?"

"I just got too much overworked, that's all." Answers Tobey while leaning his head looking against the passenger window.

"With your robots?"

"N-not particularly."

Mrs. McCalister sighed. "Tobey dear, when will you ever stop worrying your mother like this? It's already too much for me to bear!"

"I swear mother. It won't happen again." He replies with a less encouraging face.

Claire stops at an intersection.

"This better be the last time you involve the Botsfords with your tomfoolery young man. For once, I am just thankful that none of your robots had anything to do yesterday, so I am going to let you off the hook. But you still need to rest after we get home!"

"I understand, mother."

She proceeds to cross the intersection after a couple of vehicles went past them.

The McCalisters left the Botsford residence almost 8AM in the morning. They accepted the family's offer to have breakfast, so that Claire could have extra time to attend with her housekeeping the whole weekend.

When they arrived at their residence, Tobey headed over to his room... which is a mess.

He turns on the light and crumpled paperworks, worn garments, and used robot parts, were scattered on the floor. The walls are covered with newspaper clippings and Wordgirl posters. His table was a mess too, which was filled with unfinished drafts, and blueprints.

"My hypothesis is a total flop. Much is to reconsider if I have to rethink my objectives." Said the boy genius to himself. "But first, I need to clean my room."

He brought out the unused box cartoons and filled each box with segregated trash, then took them outside without stacking them since he has trouble lifting cumbersome stuff. He took an hour and a half for this procedure, which caught her mother's attention. Even Claire was surprised to see her son dispose this too much garbage out of his room. When the task is over, he had brought out fifteen boxes of recyclable outside his home and brought them near the backyard shed a.k.a. robotics laboratory. The boy genius activates his Shipshape-a-tron version 7.13 the self-cleaning disc robot, to tidy up the rest of the clutter.

After a long toil, He decided to take a bath. Inside the bathroom, he sat quietly with his body submerged in warm water, pondering all the events that took place. Later, he joined his mother for lunch.

It was a very warm Saturday afternoon. He was a little exhausted from cleaning this morning, and he hasn't fully recovered yet, so he went to his air conditioned room to have a short nap.

He closes his eyes and within minutes, a familiar vision planted itself in his dream.

"We can finally be together... forever."

He woke up from his same dream, a dream which he couldn't escape in his sleep. And although Becky Botsford personally denies her alleged connection with the Lexiconian, the amassed evidences he accumulated through the years proves it was her otherwise. What truth should he actually believe?

Wiping away some of his built up tears, and got out of bed. He proceeds at his writing desk to scribble his Entry Log to record his progress.

"Entry Log Number 364: I discovered a critical conclusion with regards to revealing Wordgirl's secret identity. My primary suspect still denies admission, despite the overwhelming evidences brought up to her. Regardless, there is a major flaw to this whole operation that I have failed to overlook."

"It appears that I have failed to establish an appropriate action once my theoretical suspicion has been confirmed. There were numerous factors why I couldn't come to an logical procedure. He recalls one of Becky's dialogues during their little talk.

"Just put yourself on Wordgirl's shoes. How troublesome would it be if you had supervillains bothering your personal life all the time? Just as you said, Wordgirl also has friends and family too. I'm sure you don't want your folks to get involved, because you don't want them to get hurt, right?"

"First, the alleged subject itself is a colleague of mine whom I have very little interface at school. Nevertheless, we have been more or less acquainted due to the frequent cross mingling amongst our respective families. Needless to say, I have developed a mutual bond to her family, and it is rather an insensitive act to consider them as casualties during my operations. If me and the primary suspect were complete strangers like the rest of the villains, this might have turned out well on my advantage."

"Speaking of favorable positions, the second factor proves that I have no clear advantage against the alleged subject. Within the span of over three years of social interaction with the prime suspect, we are quite familiar with ourselves, including our whereabouts, interests and affiliations. Ergo, with no means of concealing our profile, a direct physical altercation with Wordgirl would still completely overwhelm me."

"Finally, the third factor... The last reason would be..."

"Just put your evidence aside. Even if I am Wordgirl, which I'm not, do you think I would appreciate the things you were doing around the city?"

He paused and closed his eyes to reflect on her words.

"Even though you wanted to crush me, control me, subdue me, or threaten my family?"

"That's all in the past now, Tobey. Here I am, the object of your affection. I'm yours to love... all by yourself..."

BANG!

He slams his desk, dropping some notes that were attached around the corners of the surface.

"This is so unfair! Why did it have to be her..."

Tiny tears dropped at the desk's surface. With his pen in hand, he began to tremble.

"Is this the truth that I've been searching for... Have my feelings been all for nothing?"

The notes he was scribbling were drenched in tears.

"If so... How could I've been so reckless... I should've thought of this through. How could've I inadvertently hurt someone I already know..."

The blond inventor lamented for almost the rest of the afternoon until a certain individual approached him on his window. She softly tapped on the glass panel. Tobey wiped his tears before investigating the noise.

Outside the window a girl in cladded red and yellow cape is levitating in front of him.

"W-Wordgirl?"

He immediately opens the glass panel and looks up at her admirably.

"Hey Tobey, how are you doing?"

"S-splendid." Tobey rests his arms on the window frame. What brings you to my humble oww..." He leaning on his palm accidentally squeezing his swelling cheek.

"Whoa, what happened to your cheek? Are you alright?"

"Erm... Nevermind that. It's just some insipid feral figure who..." He stopped in the middle of his speech, still aware that his adored heroine and his academic rival might still be plausibly the same. "No need to worry about it. It's just an allergic reaction. Anyway, to what do I owe you the pleasure?

"I got a few errands this afternoon, and I thought this might is be the right time to take you with me."

"W-We're going out?!?" The blonde inventor's heart leapt for joy while bracing the window sil.

"N-not the way you imagine it." She crosses her arms in an uncomfy response. "I just thought you would be interested to know where I usually go around in hours such as this. So, are you good to go?"

"I'd be delighted!" His chest felt as light as a feather."But, let me grab something before we go." He zooms in to his drawer and took out a small sling bag, and a pair of eyeglasses. "All set!" Smiles the boy genius.

She curves a grin in return. "Let's go then!"

A flash of yellow with red glow swept McCalister outside his home.

Wordgirl holds Tobey by his shoulder as they fly within the city proper. His blissful expression reminded him of the time he drew pictures of himself and the Lexiconian in one of his works. He briefly looked up to see her lovely face and her hair flowing freely against the air. The young heroine also saw him glancing and made a few sharp banks so that he could focus on their destination and lessen the awkwardness.

Through the afternoon trip, Tobey learned more about Wordgirl and one her weekly routines. There were areas downtown where accidents frequently happen, but Wordgirl successfully averted them all in just mere minutes. Without the red heroine, many lives might've been lost due to misfortunes and recklessness.

Most of these people she met where by happenstance. Every now and then, she visits these people to know their statuses. These strangers however, had one thing in common: they were all victims by Tobey's giant robots that once invaded their respective lives, but Wordgirl was there to save them, and now, they are all friends with the Lexiconian.

The afternoon hours went by and the more Tobey learned more about these people, and the things that her beloved heroine would willing to do for her precious time, the more he realizes how many people he has affected and how further he deemed himself fully accounted for. He felt terrible, ashamed and guilty for the evil deeds he committed many years as a villain.

The sun was almost setting when they arrived at the City park. There were no hosted activities in the afternoon, so there were not alot of people except for a private couple. They situated themselves on top of a white architectural bridge that connects the passing stream.

Tobey felt relieved, as he already felt fatigued from his mental pressure accumulated from the afternoon trip.

"So what are we gonna do here this time?" Asked the boy genius, wondering if there's another case about him or his robots.

"Nothing. This is actually my spare time."

"Really?"

"Well kinda. When there's no danger, I can stay here for awhile. It's just near the city proper, so could get there in time without flying too far."

"Ah yes, a logical strategy."

They stood there and observed the nature around them. From the melodious birds chirping over the trees to the babbling brook crossing underneath them. The sun's rays reflected the glowing trees shimmering against the setting sun. For the first time ever, Tobey appreciates the wonders of the panoramic beauty around him, and realizes there's actually more pleasurable things that he could find, than pushing buttons and forging steel. A soft wind blew at them where the Lexiconian's cape flowed gently with her hair.

"I never would've thought of this place to be so... beautiful." Tobey said admirably. "And the best part is..." He gazes at her adoring heroine as if she captivated the aesthetic elements of nature surrounding her. "... everything look so heavenly."

Wordgirl finally noticed the boy genius looking at her, but faced the other direction.

"Tobey, do you know why I brought you outside with me today?" She asks without looking at him.

"Perhaps. Nevertheless, do tell."

"You've seen for yourself just this afternoon alone, how much I go around the city doing thankless tasks, to keep the place and its inhabitants safe. Imagine me doing this everyday, with the inconvenience of fighting arch-criminals along the way. I really don't want to waste my time with you villains. I just want a peaceful city, and I want to keep it that way. This is my legacy I want to leave as a superhero, you know? fight for justice? observe the law? protect the citizens?" She turns her head towards the blonde inventor. "How about you, Tobey?, How do you see yourself in the end? What's your legacy?"

Tobey contemplates in silence for a while and kept listening as he allows Wordgirl to continue.

"I fought you and your robots as far as I can remember. The problem is, we couldn't stay with this way forever. We are growing up, and once we reach the legal age, one of us will have to quit what we're doing... and it certainly won't be me."

"Is it because the City Government have stricten their laws against us supervillains? I am well aware of it."

"Then you do understand? Like your Mom, I'm just concerned as her, Tobey. She won't be there always to vouch for you, and I'm sure that your mom doesn't want you to end up in jail like the rest of the grown-ups. Which is why..."

With a serious facade, she then turned around and faced him to finish her sentence.

"Theodore McCalister III, I personally adjure you... to end your life of villainy once and for all, and live a normal one... as a good citizen of Fair City."

Tobey had already listened to a similar persuasion last night, but thinks that Wordgirl's speech felt more cogent. He believes that this could the best moment to finally express his love for Wordgirl. His heart is filled with love more than ever was before. If he gave up his villainy, she would surely be drawn more closely to him. He would never have to fight her again.

The young McCalister took a deep breath and answered her. "Alright, I made up my mind."

"You do?"

"I know you would implore me to meet with such demand sooner or later. But I'm afraid I cannot comply to your request..."

This saddened the red heroine who almost broke her heart. "B-but why? I thought that..."

"I can't... not until you forgive me."

Tobey faced Wordgirl and dropped on one knee and rested his arm on top of it. He took his spectacles off and held it firmly against his chest. He bowed his head in humility and spoke.

"My dear Wordgirl, from the bottom of my heart, I sincerely give you my utmost apologies for all my imprudent atrocities I have caused against you, and on this city. I fervently hope that you find it in yourself to pardon my trespasses, so that I could move forward to a better future endeavor. Rest assured, that I would no longer build robots for the sole purpose of destruction and mayhem on Fair City ever again."

He reached out his hand to her for comfort and acceptance. "Could you ever forgive me?" He begged, giving her a puppy eyed look.

Wordgirl was nonplussed to react. She was taken aback from the young McCalister 's sincere apology. Of course she wanted to forgive him, but the excessive kneeling, made her feel awkward, as if he was proposing, or asking her out.

"D-Don't plead to me like that... I'm not a God."

Tobey noticed that she spoke a similar phrase that he said before. His suspicion that Wordgirl and Becky Botsford might be the same still remains, but this wasn't important to him at this point. Reconciliation with Wordgirl is his valuable priority.

Wordgirl was reluctant at first but eventually places his hand on top of his then spoke. "Be mindful about your responsibility, McCalister. You owe your apology to this city more than to me!"

"For you Wordgirl, I vow to make amends with the people in this city."

"Does that mean you're no longer a villain?"

"Indeed."

"Is that a promise?"

"McCalister 's honor."

"Then I personally, and sincerely forgive you, Theodore McCalister III." Beams Wordgirl.

The boy genius stood up holding her palm. They stood and glanced each other for a moment till she became mindful of the scenario.

She looks away instantly with a reddish face." "B-but that doesn't mean we're friends!"

"Then what are we?"

The red heroine crossed her arms. "Acquaintances of course."

Tobey groans from her reply. "Better than nothing I suppose." Said the disappointed boy genius. Upon facing away from her, he faintly sees a familiar couple from afar.

He puts on his spectacles and focus through his lenses. "Oh it's just Scoops and Violet." Tobey commented.

Wordgirl gasped as she looked at the same direction Tobey was facing. Violet and Scoops were walking together, unknowingly approaches the bridge that they're currently on.

Violet was also surprised, as she was the first to notice her best friend who was beside Tobey. Disconcerted, Wordgirl immediately swooped the blonde inventor and left together from the structure. Her loud trail alerted the couple.

"Was that Wordgirl that went past by?" Scoops asked?

"I think so." Smiles Violet.

The red heroine dropped Tobey behind the trees where they could still spot Scoops and Violet from afar.

"Why are we hiding?" Asked the blonde inventor.

Wordgirl peeks behind the tree that they're behind. "Agh! I can't believe I forgot! They did say they were going out at the park today! I can't let them know that I'm here just because I'm..."

She looked at Tobey and noticed she was explaining to her former adversary.

"...I'm in clandestine! Yeah. I'm here to keep an eye on them." She answers embarrassingly.

Tobey also peeks behind the tree, before looking back at Wordgirl. "Is this also part of your afternoon routine? To spy on people?"

"Y-you'll never know when you'll be needed, okay?"

"Hmm... Sounds like a superfluous effort." Says Tobey who was also spying on his peers.

She peeks back at them. "Look at them, acting all whimsical, while getting googly eyed at each other." She says to them almost detestingly.

Tobey couldn't believe what he just heard, but simply ignored and looked back at his fellow classmates from a distance. "Well it does seem that they're really going at it."

The boy genius got disinterested, and eventually stopped watching them. He leaned back against the tree. "I hardly notice them but, they've been quite together for years now. It makes me wonder what their best friend, Becky Botsford, actually thinks about them?"

"I'm sure she was happy for them."

The boy genius looked at her still staring at her friends blankly.

"I mean she should, right? They were her closest friends after all. It's just... She just didn't expect them to like each other." She stopped looking at them and leaned her back against the tree as well. She glanced at her feet to hide her frown.

Tobey finds her awkward, as if she was almost going to break into her other character, but he doesn't want to ruin her mood.

"This is fine. They deserve each other anyway... as long as they don't get hurt. They deserve to be happy, right? It's better this way..."

Tobey remained quiet and listened to her, until... "So why..." she began to sorrow.

"Why can't I be also happy for them?" Tears rolled down her cheeks.

For a while, Tobey wondered why she had a specific interest over Botsford's friends. It took him moments to realize that Becky as the possible identity of Wordgirl's alter ego would definitely explain her sudden sniveling over a specific couple. Such revelation cannot be confirmed right now however, as he had to immediately comfort her regardless. He was despised to see her beloved Lexiconian in emotional pain.

"...Because even superheroes can't have everything they want."

The red heroine slightly glanced at the boy genius.

"I suppose what I'm trying to say is, when you're flying up there, you probably get lonely sometimes too..."

Wordgirl was stunned, having heard the same phrase she mentioned to her friend Violet.

"Here." from Tobey's bag, he brought out a neatly folded handkerchief, and handed it out to her.

Wiping some tears, the red heroine wanted to lighten the mood. "What this? You brought a handkerchief with you?"

"Well I do wipe my lenses, not to mention, sweaty hands."

"Don't you want to gloat at me at a time like this?"

"As an ex-villain, I am still bred to be a gentleman."

"What are you going to use then?"

"I happen to have a spare."

"You always bring a pair when you go out?"

"You'll never know when somebody needs one."

Wordgirl took the handkerchief, but didn't say anything, as if he wasn't convincing enough. Tobey noticed her disbelief and looks away disappointed, folding his arms.

"Look. You said to me once that I was sensitive when I halted myself from ruining Katy's birthday party. Whatever sorrow you're feeling right now, it's alright to show your insecurity."

He found his hands grasping his elbows from opposite sides. His eyes were intermittently shifting towards and away from her.

"So just this once, if you want... you could... weep it all out on my shoulder."

Impassioned by his words, Wordgirl didn't even hesitate from his offer. She went to Tobey and her head covered his right shoulder. It was a warm afternoon, but tears were drenching his shirt and vest. As Tobey stared ahead distantly with a solemn look, he remained quiet, only the muffled sobbing could be heard by his ears. They remained there until Scoops and Violet eventually left the park, away from their presence.

The sun was setting towards the horizon when Wordgirl and Tobey returned to the McCalister residence and gently dropped him in his room. She stood outside the window, and they were in the very same position when they left.

"Sorry for the weird things that happened today."

"That's quite alright, Wordgirl." Tobey subtly answered. Dusting himself from the excursion.

"Oh, by the way... I was supposed to give this to you." From her 'pocket', she hands him over the shiny foiled bag of chocolates.

"What's this?"

"It's a get well soon gift by my mo... Uhm... Mrs. Botsford! I thought It was sweet of her that she's concerned about your well being, so I accepted her little errand. So there."

From her hand, Tobey unties the ribbon to open the bag containing random bite sized branded chocolates.

"This is quite thoughtful of her..." From inside the bag, He took one that's covered with a shiny foil. Then he tied the bag back with the ribbon. "There. Keep the change."

"That's it? Don't you want them all?"

"My dear Wordgirl, I just think you deserve a break after all the impressive work you've done this whole afternoon. If there's one thing right now that even a superhero could have, it's inside of that bag you have on your hand."

His response left Wordgirl in a trance, experiencing an intense amorous feeling. But her mood shifted quickly. She wanted to convey her message as clear as possible.

"Tobey, This is serious, haven't you learned anything on our little field trip?"

The boy genius felt silent for awhile, remembering all the people and places they went today. He looked away, ashamed to even look at her.

"At first, I thought you were trying to humilate me. Rubbing against me any mishap that has caused by my robots. The casualties, the psychological effects. If I consider all of these factors, they shouldn't even account to be a heroine's responsibility."

"And yet." He clenches his fists from both sides.

"As a superhero, I realized you carried that burden with you, along with the hopes of everything will turn better in the end. But if it doesn't, you are still around to comfort those who suffer, help beyond the needy, save the undeserving, and even sacrifice your own self-desire. This are the qualities that no supervillain would ever bear culpability, nor fathom its consequence... I understand that now."

He finally looks back at her in a light hearted manner. "My darling Wordgirl, I shouldn't adore you because of your physical attributes, but instead, you possess the genuine character of what a superhero should be, and with that, I believe I've become fond of you even more."

Wordgirl's reddish face shone even brighter. Never could she have imagined an acknowledgement so wholesome, moreso from one of her dangerous villains in Fair City. Placing her hand in front of her bossom, she felt her heart uncontrollably beating rapidly, making it harder for her to breathe, almost leaving an intense degree of desire for him.

However, that was also the problem. A problem that he cannot substantiate even his wildest passions for her beloved superheroine. A problem which he fails to comprehend from the very beginning. Wanting to break out from the unspeakable feeling, she shook her head in disagreement and declared to him a parting conclusion.

"Now if you would allow me to compensate for all the..." Tobey continues to woo her with his speech when Wordgirl instantly cut him off.

"No Tobey, I can't take anymore of your incessant flirting!"

"Huh?" What do you mean?"

"I have something important to tell you." Her countenance became serious. "Starting today and from here onwards, I never want to see you anymore."

Her message took Tobey too long to absorb, before he begs the question. "B-but why?"

"Now that you're no longer a villain, it's pointless for me to come to you. The only reason I kept seeing you is because of the threat of your robots always causing havoc in the city. If you value your promise, as well as your honor, you would refrain yourself from committing sinister acts in this city again. Do you understand?"

It was a trap. Tobey thought that his forgiveness would bring her closer to her dearest heroine, but instead, it has severed the ties that bind his relationship to her. She turns her back on him and continued to speak, but Tobey tried to plead.

"No. Wait a minute, you can't do this..." But the young heroine heed no attention.

"And one more thing... I should've told you this for a long time. I never really liked you. I never appreciated your feelings. I'm flattered that you made so much effort to please me, but I'm really sorry. Just forget about me and learn to move on. Focus on your promise, and stay out of trouble. And for your sake, just live your life as a civilian to the fullest, and that will please me more."

Tobey couldn't respond immediately. His heart was broken. All these years that he had yearned for her beloved Wordgirl had all gone to waste. All she wanted was to get rid of him for good. Mustering enough courage, he spoke."No! Wordgirl! Please listen to me!"

"Goodbye, Tobey. I hope this is the last time I'll see you."

"DON'T LEAVE ME!!!" Tobey shouted with all his heart.

She zoomed away from his residence leaving a yellow trail with red glow behind her.

Tobey watched as her adored heroine fade away from his sight. Only his tears fell down along with his countenance. "Why... Why did she do this to me..." He sorrowed placing his trembling fist on his chest.

Later that evening, Tobey refused his dinner. He returned to his room and continued to record his log on his desk.

"Entry Log Number 365: Wordgirl visited me this afternoon that she decided that we go out. We visited an old man named Mr. Limpid, who was a window cleaner for over fourty five years. She volunteered to take his job and cleaned the entire window panels in one of Mr. Big's corporate buildings."

While recording, he remembers what the old man said to him.

"I've been to over ten companies but couldn't get enough pay. The last company took me eleven years. I might have stayed longer if it hadn't been intentionally demolished."

"Luckily Wordgirl was there to save me. And that's how she knew about me. As for those giant robots, good riddance, Wordgirl took care of them. A man couldn't just have peace near his dying years, now could he?"

"Mr. Limpid almost lost his life living his passion, and yet, even with Wordgirl's powers she couldn't bring him out of poverty."

Tobey regrets that he almost killed Mr. Limpid with his robots. He shook his head to forget and continued recording.

"Afterwards we landed in one of the tallest buildings downtown and watched my beloved Wordgirl prevent one contretemps over another within five minutes."

"In this part of downtown, similar events happen so frequently. It's not an easy pattern to know which situation should I go next. It's really quite random, but yeah. Around this time, they're the same people I see almost every Saturday afternoon."

"Are you implying that you have somehow managed to intercept these predicaments within an estimated time?"

"Yeah. And there's about thirty of them I can recall in one week."

"Every second is important to her. Even with her powers, she couldn't allow herself to make a single mistake."

Tobey regrets that Wordgirl's concern for the citizens, are contrast to his. He paused, closed his eyes and held his head, as if his guilt becomes heavier by the minute. It took a long while before continuing the recording.

"Next we visited a small childcare center outside the town proper where Wordgirl visited her new found friends who were next-door neighbors."

"I know, feel quite sorry for these children. It wasn't easy within the first few months. They couldn't stop asking where their parents were, so they wept and kept longing for them. Pablo there couldn't use his leg after he got stuck in a slab of concrete. Tamara is a cancer patient and her parents were supporting her chemotherapy. Casey was a talkative child until she had PTSD after she saw one of the robots..."

"E-Even with her powers, Wordgirl couldn't... cure the pain of people who got hurt."

His hand shivers at his recording. Tobey regrets that his robots affected many lives.

Tobey shakes the recorder uncontrollably.

"H-how could've I done all of this... What was I thinking? What was I trying to prove?"

"I really don't want to waste my time with you villains. I just want a peaceful city, and I want to keep it that way."

"Now that you're no longer a villain, it's pointless for me to come to you."

"I should've told you this for a long time. I never really liked you. I never appreciated your feelings. I'm flattered that you made so much effort to please me, but I'm really sorry. Just forget about me and learn to move on..."

"HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!?"

Loud crashes could be heard consecutively outside Tobey's room. "Tobey!" Mrs. McCalister rushes to his room to check on his son.

Mrs. McCalister opens the door and found the whole room was messy again. His collections, his chair, his workdesk, and his archives. Everything that once stood in its place, were laid down on the floor.

"Tobey!" She rushed to her son who was tucked in the corner, shaking. His face was mixed with sweat and tears."

"Why have I done this... How could she leave me... How can I face them alone knowing this is all my fault... It's all my fault."

As Claire wraps his arms around Tobey, he kept asking himself questions that begins with Why's and How's. He just couldn't forget them. His life was alot easier when he was still a villain. Just when he finally changed, he alone must face the repercussions left in the past... without any help from his darling Wordgirl.

It was almost midnight, Theodore McCalister III is sitting on the floor beside his bed, resting his head and arms above his folded knees. He couldn't sleep and the floor is still cluttered with his belongings. He was in his PJs. His mom had to help him prep in bed, and promised to talk to her tomorrow morning.

He sat with a blank stare, lost and had no direction to go. Time slips away as if he is stuck in a loop of neverending melancholy

As the moon wanes, and passes by his window, Its luminous beams pierced through the room. There, a mysterious object on the floor reflecting the moon's rays, emitting a small glittery effect that caught the attention of the boy genius. Out of curiosity, he approached the object.

It was a piece of chocolate, wrapped in a shiny foil, which Tobey immediately picked it up in his hand. He gazed at it for a while, and remembered what Wordgirl spoke to him.

"It's a get well soon gift by my mo... Uhm... Mrs. Botsford! I thought It was sweet of her that she's concerned about your well being, so I accepted her little errand. So there."

Remembering her words has regained his composure. He stood up and directs his attention at the small corner of his wall, where clippings and articles of Wordgirl evidences are posted. Becky Botsford, his academic rival, covers most of the area than any other potential suspects.

Placing his hands on his waist. He closed his eyes and shook his head. He measures one of her stolen shots with his thumb and index finger, almost forming a half heart.

"Becky Botsford, perhaps it's about time I should know more about your world."

The truth can wait. There's alot to consider.

Notes:

Yay a new record, another breakup in two works done! Lol.

So this arc is already finished. Which means I'm gonna have to ask another couple of weeks for a break. The third arc is in the works but I wanna include visuals this time, as it consists of world building and Tobey's progress. I haven't decided yet how long this is. It feels lengthy like a 14 chapter or so. And lots of dialogues to fix too. And more characters to involve. Big work. I tell you but I'll probably stop momentarily in the middle should I have trouble writing.

Anyway, what do you think about the story so far? Lemme know in the comments below.

Good Day and Salamat!

Notes:

About the arc:
I was going to continue their age at 12 but the fic content seems more mature than most teens at 12 so I ended up at 14. It's supposed to be 15 but I might cook up something for Becky's birthday.

I ended up Midnight for the consistency of the Hours of the day. Problem is I don't know the hours called from 12 am to 6 am. after doing research, Some suggested early morning or just night. Others call it the witching hour or the wee hours. Its still probably up for debate, but midnight is fine for me.

Alright, I have a little assignment for my readers. You can suggest any kind of food served during the three main courses (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) related to the show. Very likely its American diet, but you can sneak in some little hispanic or British dish. Any other native dish unfortunately is unacceptable. Look I'm from PH, and I can't just slip foreign dishes as I please. It would be weird for me to read Tim Botsford cooking sinigang, adobo or nilagang baka. I know he's a great cook, but let's make it safe and consistent. Food isn't my forte, so I dunno alot of foreign dishes, and watching the show for reference would also take time. But not to worry. The dishes wont affect the story that much.

Also, can someone tell me the level system in US schools? I'm following the 3 year middle and 3 year HS school system like in japan.

If you like the story please leave a comment and give a kudos. i highy appreciate it!

Good day, and Salamat!
