Chapter Text
Beca drove them to a nice lounge a few miles from where they previously were called Treblemakers . Chloe giggled a bit at the name, she was sucker for a good pun.
When they made their way inside, they saw it was a pretty big place with plenty of lounge chairs, booths, couches, and tables to enjoy an evening with some live relaxing music coming from the stage in the front. Honestly, Chloe wouldn’t have minded if they came here first for the evening but maybe they can do that for the next date.
The space was dimly lit, but not so much that you couldn’t see the whole room. Most of the bright lights were coming from the stage or the small lamps on the tables or spread across the bar in the back of the room.
The couple found a small booth facing the stage and took their seats next to each other. A waiter later came by to get their orders. Since Beca was driving she just asked for a soda and encouraged Chloe to get an adult drink if she chooses. She settled for a vodka cranberry.
“This place is pretty cool, Beca. How did you find out about it?” Chloe asked.
“Well, with working for BFD records, sometimes we go out and scout for talent and I get dragged along. This was one of the spots that we went to a few weeks ago and I had been wanting to come back but never got the chance. I figured this would be the perfect place to go for our date after dinner.” Beca answered.
Thankfully, the music wasn’t too loud, so they were able to hold a conversation without having to speak too loudly at each other. “So how was Jamie tonight?” Beca asked once their drinks came in.
“Oh I’m sure he had a blast with Jesse. Bree said they ended up watching Toy Story three times, apparently at Jesse’s prompting.” Chloe laughed as she explained. “According to Bree, he handled everything like a champ and I guess playing with Jesse got him tired enough that he didn’t even need a bedtime story and just fell asleep on his own.”
“That’s nice. Jesse is like a big child himself so I’m sure he was glad to have someone to play with on his level….I’m talking about Jesse not Jamie.” Beca chuckled.
“Yeah, I’m sure Jamie had fun with him too. He doesn’t get to play with guys as much, seeing that most of his baby sitters and my friends are all women.” Chloe giggled as she answered back.
I wonder what’s up with Chloe and Jamie’s dad? Is it too early to ask? Beca thought to herself.
“He seems like a good kid. You’ve done well with him, Chloe. I’m sure it must be hard.” Beca said.
“Yeah, not gonna lie, there are some times where it gets difficult. Times where I wish there was another person around all the time to help me out with him. But I’ve got such a great support system with Aubrey and some other friends, plus my parents are willing to come down whenever to spend time with him. There’s so much help around that it doesn’t get too difficult. I can always ask any of them and they would be happy to help.” Chloe answered honestly.
“Well, I’d like to spend more time with him. I haven’t seen him since that day at the beach. Maybe I can make it onto that list of people you can trust with your son.” Beca replied, reaching for Chloe’s hand on the table. “I want to get to know all of you and that means getting to know him too. He’s important to you so he’s important to me. I don’t mind at all, I just wasn’t sure if you were ready to share him with me.” Beca responded honestly.
“Sorry, I don’t want to force you if you’re not ready.” she quickly added after seeing Chloe’s expression soften from the happiness that was there a few moments before she started talking.
“No, no that’s not it at all. That would actually be really great, Becs. I’d love that too.” Chloe said with tears threatening to fall. Beca leaned over and planted a kiss on Chloe’s cheek. “Thank you Beca.” she said.
The couple leaned into each other as they watched the band play on stage. After a few minutes, the music stopped and the lead singer spoke, “Ok, we’re gonna take a quick break but open the mic up for anyone wanting to perform. If you want to come up, meet with our guy down here,” the lead singer pointed to someone at the front of the stage with a clipboard, “and he’ll get you set up to perform.” With that, the band walked off, supposedly to the back for a quick break.
“I’m gonna go to the restroom real quick, I’ll be right back.” Beca whispered in Chloe’s ear. She squeezed Chloe’s hand and left her with a chaste kiss to the cheek. Beca ended up going to the front to sign up to perform for the open mic.
Next thing she knew, Chloe was looking up on stage to see Beca with a guitar strapped around her body and adjusting the microphone to be the perfect height for her to sing. The drummer from the band came back on stage as well. Beca turned to him and gave a thankful smile and fist bump as she turned back to the mic.
“Hey, everyone. Hope you’re all doing well tonight. Uhm, this is my first time doing something like this so…please be gentle with me.” Beca chuckled into the mic. “I’m here with a very special woman, who I’d like to dedicate this song to. Chloe, please don’t be mad.” she laughed again before counting in the song on the guitar and strumming with perfection to a song that Chloe hadn’t heard before.
[Titanium acoustic cover by Boyce Avenue]
You shout it out
But I can't hear a word you say
I'm talking loud, not saying much
Chloe looked up to the stage completely mesmerized by what she was hearing. Beca had a hauntingly beautiful alto voice that lended to the song very well. The way she played the guitar and the way the drummer was able to fill in the space where the beat needed to come in just had her in a trance. She absolutely fell in love with the performance as it continued.
I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Beca looked out in the direction that Chloe was sitting and couldn’t help but smile as she saw Chloe looking at her with such surprise and shock. Despite her expression though, she knew the redhead was enjoying it.
You shoot me down, but I won't fall
I am titanium
When the song was done, Beca was staring completely into Chloe’s eyes as the final notes rang out. She was greeted with a rousing applause and Beca turned to hug the drummer, thanking him for coming out during his break, and quickly made her way off stage returning the guitar to it’s stand as she went.
As she approached the table, she had her hands in her pockets as she said “Hey, I hope that wasn’t too much of a surprise and it didn’t scare you off. I hadn’t planned on singing for their open mic tonight, but when you were describing everything with Jamie and stuff, I just thought that song was perfect for you. You’re so strong Chlo, like everything you’ve been through and done for yourself and your son is something I –” her rambling was quickly cut off with Chloe standing up and surging forward to connect their lips in their first kiss.
It wasn’t anything too crazy, what with being out in public and in view of everyone in the lounge, but it was nice and sweet and full of passion as they both deepened kiss, Beca pulling Chloe closer by the waist and Chloe wrapping her arms around the shorter girl. Eventually they separated, leaning their foreheads against each other. “I take it that you enjoyed the song?” Beca smirked. Chloe just responded with another kiss, “Oh definitely.” she replied, looking into the brunette’s eyes.
They sat back down in the booth as they watched the rest of the open mic performers and the band when they got back.
After a few more songs, they decided to call it a night. They made their way back to Chloe’s place and Beca quickly ran around the car to help Chloe out. She walked her up to the front door.
“I had a wonderful time tonight, Becs. Best first date ever.” Chloe said with a huge smile on her lips.
Beca just smiled back, “Phew, I’m glad. I was so nervous it wasn’t even going to get to this point.” she joked. Chloe playfully slapped her shoulder and she chuckled. “Kidding, but honestly, thank you for an amazing night Chloe. I had a lot of fun and I’m really happy you enjoyed it.” Beca said as she leaned in to give Chloe a kiss on the cheek and turn to walk away. Chloe grabs Beca’s hand to turn her back around and they both smirk and begin to lean in.
Just then the front door swings open with Aubrey waiting on the other side with a raised eyebrow.
“Ah Chloe! Nice to see you’re finally home. Thanks for bringing her back safely, Beca.” Aubrey jokes, trying to pull off the "strict parent". Chloe slowly makes her way inside as Aubrey backs away from the door and goes back further into the house.
“Aubrey, nice to see you again.” Beca mock salutes. “I’ll take off. Have a good night, Chlo. Sweet dreams.” She turns to walk back towards her car.
At the last second before the door closes, Chloe runs over to Beca, grabs her by the hand, spins her around and plants a big kiss on her lips. Beca’s hands immediately come out to hold Chloe at the waist as Chloe’s hands come up around the brunette’s neck. When they finally end the kiss, Chloe speaks. “Good night, Becs. Thank you for a wonderful night. It was the perfect ‘first date’.” she says, winking after stating this was their first date. She turns to walk back into the house as Beca makes her way back to her car.
When Beca is finally settled for bed, she looks at her phone to see a text from Chloe. It was a picture of Jamie in his Buzz Lightyear onesie clutching a Woody doll.
[To Beca]: Omg, he’s too cute! I can’t! Anyways…Thanks again for a great night. Hope you made it home safely.
Beca “loves” the picture and replies back.
[To Chloe]: He is definitely one cute kid. Just like his mom ;) And I’m glad you had a great night. Hopefully there will be many more lol?
[To Chloe]: Have a good night Chloe.
The response is immediate and makes Beca smile.
[To Beca]: Oh I can definitely see more dates in the future ;) but ngl you set the bar pretty high for this one Mitchell. I’ll be interested to see what’s in store for the next ones lol
[To Beca]: Sweet dreams Becs
They both go to bed with memories of their date and huge smiles on their faces.
