Chapter Text
Notice you pt 2
Exer had learnt a lot about himself.
And he was starting to learn more.
And it scared him.
For starters he realised he liked working, he liked the smell of coffee that now seemed to permeate him, his new free perfume. He loved seeing the smile on people’s faces, their eyes closing as they took a sip of the lattes that he made.
It was something that popularity couldn’t buy. He noticed how much he was sick of keeping secrets, at how much they had destroyed everything. His own pettiness and childishness towards Jackson. Exer’s jealousy had turned him into a monster; the most frightening thing was that he already felt like one.
His power was out of control, and his emotions were a mess.
And last night he noticed something.
How his body responded to David…
Last night, Exer’s body was overcome with emotion. He was so happy to be standing next to David again, but he didn’t lie about the things that he said, he didn’t lie about David being his other half, the side that made him whole.
He would practically do anything for David, his whole face went warm when he saw tears leak out of his friend’s eyes. David’s ocean eyes gleamed sapphire blue, waves in the sea.
His eyes wandered down to David’s lips, the view of his chest. Exer was exhausted, emotionally and physically, it had been a long day at work, that was all.
Exer couldn’t do what he wanted to do with his mouth so he wrapped his arms around his friend instead, his heart beating in a pattern he had never recognised before in his life.
But that was last night and this was the morning.
David and Exer were walking to their special spot, further into the nature park, there was a small forest, with oak trees and autumn leaves.
By the time they reached the stream, they were out of breath, panting as they planted themselves onto a sturdy log.
“I need to tell you something Exer,” David said, he wasn’t looking at him, his eyes focused out into the distance.
Exer’s body went still. He needed to tell David something too, he meant it when he said he was starting from zero. He wanted to believe that people would react to him the way Pamela did. Empathy, real empathy for who he truly was, the magic that he had.
“Now what I might tell you, you- you may think I’m a monster, you may never want to ever speak to me again. Ex, you’re my best friend, you’ve always been there for me and I think that I owe you the truth”
Exer scooted up to his friend until the corner of their hips were touching, he put his hand underneath David’s chin and turned his face directly to him. David was blushing, his cheeks and ears crimson, Exer’s pulse beat fast in his wrist. His mouth wanted to do that thing again but he pulled himself back.
“ Trust me Day, whatever you have to say isn’t as bad as me”
‘ I can’t believe I’m gonna do this
“Ex, I know about you and Brenda already, we sorted it, it’s fine. I shouldn’t have been so possessive I-”
“David that’s not the only thing I have lied about”
David’s frowned “Oh…”
“Ever since I was little, I was given this gift, well a curse, some type of magic. David I can make things move with my mind and only certain people can see me use it”
David’s blue eyes went wide and then he started laughing. “C’mon dude”
When he realised that he wasn’t joking the colour that once stained David’s face had vanished.
Exer told him about how he found his power from the beginning, how he levitated a toy truck on his bedside table when he was six, and how he used his power to direct the basketball into the bully’s head to save David. He even told him the bad bits, what he did to Pamela.
Even though it wasn’t directly his fault.
Now it was time for Exer to look away, shame coursed through him, it was all out in the open. A wound without a bandage.
There was silence, only the gentle swoosh of water, the ebb and flow of the stream glowing in the morning light.
“I mean wow, I never thought magic could be real and I never thought that it was ever possible. Exer do you ever notice when you’re magic feels out of control, do you ever feel a certain way?”
“Christ David you sound like my dad”
David nudged him “I’m being serious just think about it for a second”
Exer thought and connected the dots to earlier on in the week. When his dad was asking him all those questions, he felt a tight knot twist in his stomach and his chest and then boom.
The car exploded.
“I think I lose control when I’m stressed, scared, jealous It’s like it becomes something else entirely, there are so many questions, so many things I still don’t know and I can’t keep living like this without-”
“Hey hey,” said David “It’s okay, I can help you, Pamela maybe even Jackson.”
Exer stared at David, that same funny feeling that was there last night washing over him again, he wrapped his arms around David’s neck and held him.
“When you hold me everything makes sense” David mumbled against his neck.
They pulled apart and David was blushing, he had gone into tomato mode and Exer didn’t think he was any different.
“What was it, you wanted to tell me?”
“Oh you still wanna know”
“I could never think you’re a monster Day”
David’s bottom lip quivered.
“I can’t be your friend”
“What? is it the magic, what I’ve done”
Shaking his head, David continued “I can’t be your friend because I love you, I love you more than a bro, more than a friend and I know it’s wrong but it’s always been you. I love you in an I could kiss you right now way and it hurts and it’s the kind of pain that I can take as long as I have you in my life. I’ll be alright, but I had to let you know because lying to myself is-”
Exer was so close to David that his breath was on his face, against his cheeks.
“That’s the most beautiful thing someone has ever said to me” his voice was a low rasp, his power charged within him but it didn’t cause any harm.
“Exer I-”
“Kiss me”
David rubbed his nose against him, this was the only thing that existed nothing else in the world mattered. Their lips touched, timid at first until their hands were against each other’s shoulders, lips intertwined, his fingers tugging at the locks of David’s hair, silky soft.
They kissed until their lips were sore when they pulled apart their eyes were sparkling.
“That was-” Exer started.
“Magic?” David suggested.
They both laughed, what a pair they made. Whatever troubles they would deal with them later.
Exer’s hand fit perfectly into David’s.
“Me too. I love you too” he said.
