Chapter Text
The wedding of King Scourge and Zonic (now King Zonic) had been an absolutely specular event. It was truly a happy day that both hedgehogs would forever hold in both their memories and their hearts. But their wedding day wouldn't be the only thing that they'd treasure. They were to be blessed with more happiness on their honeymoon in the 'Holiday Zone' a resort town in Mobius. (It was Sonic and Shadow who arranged their honeymoon to be there, since Scourge had no idea where to go and Zonic was too busy to come up with anything.)
~
''There! That's all my stuff finally unpacked!" Scourge sighed contently as he took a much needed stretch after all that moving about. After he had his stretch (leaving him feeling content) he went to peer through the thin curtains and out of the hotel window, taking in every little detail of the seaside not far in the distance with its soft golden sands and sparkling sapphire sea. The view was definitely as perfect as the posters depicted them! Which Scourge was more than happy about as he had doubts about this place (thanks to it being suggested by two hedgehogs who he hated with every fibre of his being.) But after seeing the picturesque view and feeling the seaside wind in his fur, his opinion had changed. The Holiday Zone was an amazing place and he couldn't wait to explore it with his boyfriend, Zonic... No, his newlywed husband, Zonic.
Damn, it felt good to think that word. It made Scourge feel all light and giddy. He, the king, once terror of the multiverse, had a husband. Glancing down at the wedding ring on his finger, he only felt himself become more giddy and much more lighter. With a quick inhale and exhale, he calmed himself otherwise he'd passed out. The poor hedgehog was still in shock at being happily married. Scourge never thought that someone like him would ever end up getting hitched, but here he was on his honeymoon, standing in a hotel room that he'd be sharing with his husband for three weeks. Three weeks that'd be filled with so much love.
"Scourge?"
A crisp yet soft tone anchored Scourge back to reality, and he quickly turned on the spot to see his hubby (who had unpacked and changed earlier instead of leaving it for later like Scourge) dressed in his flowery light blue summer shirt, white cargo shorts and sandals with a pair of yellow shades on his head. "I've attended to the rest of the arrangements. So, do you want to come down to the beach with me? Or would you rather be looking out of the window at it?"
The damn tease! Scourge's lips formed into a smirk as he looked at his Zonic with a half-lidded gaze. "I'll join you. I just gotta change into something else first."
Jogging over to the wardrobe, he pulled the doors open and picked out some grey camo cargo shorts and a black tank top with a flame design on the bottom, then closed the wardrobe. Scourge shrugged his leather jacket off and threw it towards the bed, before kicking his boots off and quickly dressing in the outfit he had picked. But he wasn't finished. To top off the look, he donned some black sandals with silver studs on the straps and adjusted the red shades atop his head.
"Wow." Zonic chuckled gently, "I hardly recognise you without your beloved jacket on."
"I do feel strange without it." Admitted the green hedgehog with a shrug but as he made his way over to Zonic he smirked once again, his gruff voice taking on a low, seductive tone, "but, I'm sure I'll forget all about this strange feeling when I've got you pinned down against those shimmering sands and I'm kissin' ya silly, hmm?"
Zonic's eyes sparkled, his muzzle became tinged with a pink colour as he reached up, cupping his husband's cheek. "I'm not really sure if it'll help you'll forget or not... Still, I think we should give it a test, don't you?" His voice, his soft features... He was just driving Scourge madder for him!
Suddenly, the king grabbed Zonic's hips and pulled the officer's body flush against his own. Slowly moving one hand, Scourge placed his index finger under Zonic's chin, tilting his husband's head up so he could gaze into those emeralds as he purred, "I don't think I want to wait until we've reached the beach. Let's test it out here, babe."
In the past, Zonic would have rolled his eyes at that flirtatious remark and have come back with something witty. But he didn't in that moment. After what had happened yesterday (their marriage). It had put him in an extremely sappy mood. Zonic, for once, wanted the blue eyed hedgehog to tease him, to fluster him until he was beet red. It was like a spell had been put on the zone cop. He was so in the mood for giving love and receiving it.
It wasn't just Zonic's attitude that had changed. The atmosphere between the pair had metamorphosed into one filled with devotion and non-sexual intimacy. It was a light atmosphere that made them feel dreamy, content, and warm inside. Their love had certainly reached its peak.
"We can test it here later, I promise." Murmured Zonic lovingly, "right now I think we should head down to the beach and catch those rays before they go for the day. I meant, it is noon now."
"Hmm... alright then. But I'm holding you to your promise, Zon."
Leaning forward, Zonic nuzzled his nose against the others, letting his eyes slowly close as he did so. Scourge let his own eyes close and rubbed his nose back against his husband's, moving to interlock his hands with his. Despite having their eyes closed, they could feel one another's bright smiles, making their cheeks burn.
"Don't worry, Scourge. I'll keep my promise to you because..." His voice was low as he whispered a familiar phrase to his husband, "'I don't break my promises.'"
Scourge's heart thumped erratically, knocking against his ribcage at those words. His words. "You're making it hard for me to control myself, darlin.'" As soon as those words had fallen from his lips, he claimed Zonic's soft lips with his own. Zonic all but melted like butter and threw his arms around his neck as he surrendered to his husband's charms for a moment. But the call of sun, sea and sand made him snap out of his passion filled haze. "Scourge," chuckled the cop as he briefly pulled away, "come on, let's go out there already." He ended up laughing again as Scourge pulled him back with a whine of, "the beach ain't goin' nowhere." He went and buried his nose in Zonic's neck, pressing a tender kiss to the ocean blue fur.
"S-S-Scourge!" Exclaimed Zonic, his laughter increasing, "stop!"
"I don't wanna, doll." Another kiss was pressed to his neck, making Zonic uncharacteristically squeal, "Scourge! Stop it!"
His squeal of delight made the blue eyed mobian crack up himself. "You don't sound like you want me to stop!"
"Well, I do want you to stop." Lied the cop as he managed to wrestle himself out of his beloved's arms and take a few steps back. Then, Zonic tensed himself up, ready to run as he was going to say something that he knew would wind his husband up. "I want you to stop for now, anyway." Then Zonic saw it. Scourge's surprised expression, followed by that iconic Scourge smirk. "Doll~" He began, taking some steps forwards which in turn made Zonic step backwards with small giggles escaping from him as he knew that he had gotten to his love.
"I've had enough of your teasing. C'MERE YOU!"
Spinning ninety degrees on the spot, elite officer Zonic sprinted over to the door to their room at speeds nearly as fast as Hyper Sonic and quickly grasped the door handle, pushing it down and running out in hysterical laughter. Scourge ran after him, his loud footsteps making Zonic speed up as he raced down the corridor past people going to and from their rooms.
"ZON! YOU KNOW YOU CAN'T OUTRUN ME! I'LL GET YOU! I'LL GET YOU!"
Zonic kept on running down the corridor, ignoring the looks he got until suddenly a flash of green appeared before his eyes, then a glint of white from razor-sharp teeth, "Gotcha, baby." Then next thing the cop knew was he had been hoisted, bridal style, into a pair of strong arms and was being led back towards their room. Zonic sighed and gave in to Scourge again as his sappy mood overtook him once more. Snuggling up to his beloved, he whispered mischievously, "people are staring at us."
Some mobians in the corridor were watching the pair of newlyweds with either looks of amusement or awe. However one mobian, an elderly man standing next to an elderly woman, grumbled to them, "listen here you two, it's all fun and games at the beginning but as time goes on the magic will fade and you'll be finding ways to get away from your spouse!" This earned him some gasps from people whilst the old woman next to him growled, "oh, Harry! Leave them be, you spoilsport!"
The old man's comment angered Scourge greatly. Cradling Zonic close, he retorted to the man, "Nah. That ain't gonna happen to me and my man." Before looking at Zonic, who smiled at him. Scourge smiled back, which made them start giggling again. So Scourge sprinted off to their room to resume their tender moment.
"You left the door open." Zonic muttered as they entered their room.
"I did it because I knew I'd easily catch you and bring you back." Replied Scourge confidently before throwing Zonic onto the bed. Upon landing on the luxurious white duvet, Zonic hollered with laughter, flopping onto his back. Scourge finishing locking the door and turned around, facing Zonic with a devilish look. "Hehehe, Zonzon~" he started walking over with his arms raised, fingers bent into claws as he copied a deep voice he had heard from a cheesy horror film they had seen a few weeks back. "There's nowhere to run, my dear. You are trapped."
In response, Zonic guffawed so hard he ended up snorting unattractively, but it didn't bother Scourge nor Zonic himself. They were too carried away to think about acting like the noble kings they were supposed to be. The pair had completely loosened up. Something they had both badly needed to do.
"You're mine, Zon! Mwhahaha!"
Another squeal of laughter came from the officer as Scourge pinned him down by his shoulders, quickly leaning down to pepper kisses along his left shoulder and the side of his neck.
"If you don't stop I'll, I'll -"
Scourge pulled back to look into his husband's hazy green eyes. "Do what? Hmm? What will you do?"
Through pants, Zonic gasped, "I'll..." He stopped talking to calm his breathing. As he lay there, staring up at Scourge, who gazed at him with those ice blues, the officer cupped his cheek, "I'll do this."
He pulled him down into a kiss. A kiss unlike any they'd ever had before.
Usually their kisses were either quick, light, or quite rough. This one was slow and passionate, full of sighs, purrs, hums and gentle caresses of quills.
As Scourge tilted his head, taking a deep breath as he deeply kissed Zonic again, he began thinking to himself, 'I can't believe how far you and I have come, Zon. When I first met you back in my... Humiliating days as... Anti... I never imagined that you would end up being the love of my life in the far future. Heh. I sound so wimpy, don't I? Ack, I don't care.'
"Hey, Zon." Scourge managed to say against those sweet lips, "did you ever imagine that we'd end up like this?"
Emerald greens looked off into the distance as he whispered, "no... When I first saw you, I thought we'd be enemies for life. But then we became friends and then we became more than that." Zonic's eyes focused back on Scourge's, "us becoming like this was greatly unexpected. But, I'm glad it happened. You've changed my life."
It was true. Scourge really had changed his life. The former criminal had turned the cop's boring life of monitors and loneliness into fun and adventure. As much as Scourge had changed Zonic, Zonic had changed Scourge. The officer took his life of crime and unhealthy habits and helped shape his life into one of content and love.
Needless to say, if they had never bonded as they did with one another, they would have never known true happiness. It was plain to see that they were soulmates.
The air in the room in which the magical moment was taking place was one of love and adoration now as Scourge spoke his mind.
"I'm not one for talking all sappy, Zon. But I'm gonna be real. You changed my life too. You cured me, babe. Before you came along, I was living a real nasty messed up life. But then yer lovin' healed me right up. It was like a medicine, baby."
The confession earned him a "aww" from Zonic. Then they closed the gap between them again, indulging in more passionate kisses and loving quill caresses for a few seconds until Zonic gently pushed his husband away. "How are you feeling? Still feeling strange?" Panted the blue hedgehog as he sat up, frantically brushing at his messy quills that Scourge had lovingly messed up during the kiss session.
"Hmm, I'm feeling great now." He replied dreamily, "so, we heading down to the beach? I could do with a chill out. You've worn me out, Zon."
Zonic huffed, straightening the collar of his shirt that Scourge had loosened up with tugging, "it's not my fault you're worn out. It's yours. You kissed me first."
Throwing his hands up in defense, Scourge exclaimed with an eye roll, "Can you blame me, though, for doing it? You passed out on our wedding night after four beers! I was hoping you and I could sneak away from the private party for some alone time, but you were out cold."
The memory of getting drunk then passing out entered Zonic's mind, and he sighed in shame, feeling awful at leaving Scourge alone on their special night. "I'm sorry. I thought I could handle those beers. I mean, Shadow downed sixteen cans and wasn't fazed at all! I honestly thought I'd be okay."
"Heh. It's alright. We've made up for that night now." Scourge pinched his husband's cheek, before grabbing his hand, "Cheer up, babe. We've got a whole holiday town to explore! But first, the beach!!"
~
"Ahh, this is sweet!" Taking a deep breath, Scourge pulled his shades down and relaxed back against the warm sands with his arms folded behind his head. Next to him was Zonic, occasionally snapping pictures of the beach and his chilled out husband with the camera that was hanging around his neck on a cord.
"Zonzon?"
Lowering his camera, Zonic peered down at him curiously. "Hmm?"
"Make sure you get my good side, won't ya?"
Zonic shook his head with a smile. "Every side of you is good."
He grinned, "same goes for you, doll."
That small sentence had a big effect on the officer's heart. Making it thud quickly in his chest. Scourge would always have this effect on Zonic.
Always.
After many hours of relaxation (and cuddles) in the rays of the sun of Mobius, the evening sky soon arrived and so the couple, hand in hand, took to exploring the brightly lit streets of the Holiday Zone. The street they were currently strolling down was thankfully not busy, so they weren't pushing past people. They could just enjoy their walk together in peace with either hedgehog taking it in turns to occasionally snap pictures of the sights or one another posed in front of things. Not long after that, the kings of Moebius found a souvenir shop with a window decorated with yellow fairy lights and the odd seashell stuck here and there as well as a model lighthouse. Intrigued by the look of the place, both peeked through the window and saw the various seaside related trinkets and such all neatly lined up on the counter and shelves for people to browse. One item in particular caught Zonic's eye... and he wanted to get it behind his soulmate's back.
"Scourge?" Whispered Zonic, glancing at the other suddenly.
"Yeah?" Came the whispered reply.
"Isn't there a cafe near here called 'The Ebony Cat'?"
"I think so?"
Shuffling closer, Zonic asked, "Can you check around? I've forgotten the map and I don't fancy asking for directions because whenever I've asked for directions before in the past, I always ended up in the wrong places! Anyway..." slipping into a seductive tone, the officer drawled, "you're fast, my love, faster than me, so if you search for it, the café will be quickly found."
That brought a wide smile to the former convict, "Hehehe~ damn right it'll be quickly found! Cuz I'm Scourge, the fastest thing in the entire multiverse. Right babe, you go and have a look in this shop until I'm back, alright?"
As Scourge zoomed off, Zonic inwardly smiled. 'Oh, my dear, I intend to look.'
When Scourge returned from his search, he told his love (who was waiting outside the shop with many paper shopping bags hanging off his arms), "I found the café, but it's full up. But I did find a pub called 'The Psychic Sheepdog' not far from it..." He trialed off as his curiosity got the better of him. Pointing at the bulging bags, he questioned, "whatcha got in them bags?"
"O-oh umm just some stuff for me!" answered the cop nervously, giving only a half truth. Zonic hoped that his husband wouldn't pry any further. But he did. Because Scourge was a curious guy.
"Can I see?"
"N-no... Because I don't fancy having to repack. I just bought a lot of new clothes for myself and some seaside souvenirs, that's all... W-why don't you go get yourself a pint from that pub you mentioned? Whilst I put all this stuff in our hotel room. When I come back, we can continue our walk."
Zonic hoped with all his heart that the thought of a pint would make Scourge forget about the bags. As the officer stared at his husband, nervously chewing his bottom lip as he did so, he saw how Scourge was contemplating the idea. But his eyes burning with curiosity never left the bags.
"Alright." Scourge finally said, breaking the tension. "I'll have one pint. Just one. Cuz I don't fancy having a hangover again."
The ocean blue hedgehog sighed in relief. "Okay, love."
"You sure you don't need my help with putting all that stuff away, though?" Scourge tried to reach out to one of the bags but Zonic yanked his arm away with an exclaimed, "I'm fine! Seriously!"
Scourge frowned. Then shrugged, "if you say so, sugar."
"Now why don't you get yourself that pint? At the hotel I'll get the brochure so I can find my way to you at the pub. 'The Psychic Sheepdog' was it?"
"Yeah."
"Got it!" Turning on the spot, Zonic announced, "I won't be long!"
Then he was gone. Leaving Scourge to shrug again and mumble, "he's definitely hiding something." For a second he was almost tempted to run off after him but decided against it as that aforementioned pint popped into his mind, making him lick his lips. So, he marched off down one of the streets he had run down a minute ago when he spotted something he didn't notice on his run last time.
With an impressed whistle, Scourge's blue eyes became fixed on a neon yellow sign above a big red door reading, 'THE SUPER TATTOO LOUNGE'. Flicking his eyes downward, Scourge saw that hardly anyone was inside the shop besides the tattooists. Looking over to the right side of the shop, Scourge saw row after row of tattoo designs on paper. Designs such as snakes, flames, skulls, guns, bleeding hearts, thorny roses wrapped around daggers, angels of death, and naked mobian women in provocative poses.
'Man, that's my aesthetic!'
His eyes flicked over to the left side of the room in awe where he found more tattoo designs consisting of rings, alcohol bottles, crowns and various banners with phrases such as 'I'LL KILL U' or 'DON'T F*CK WITH ME!'
Rubbing his hands together, he thought 'that's it, I gotta get one of these!' Scourge felt excitement growing within him as he all but sprinted into the shop and asked the nearest worker, a rabbit woman dressed in gothic clothing, "Gimme a tat, lady!"
"Sure thing, greenie. What would you like? A full body tat? Or just on your back or your chest? Or do you want a tat on both of your arms or one? Do you want a tat on one of your legs or both? Or do you want something on your face? Also, would you like it in colour? Is it a complex tattoo that you'd like?" She responded with professional airs about her.
Scourge looked at the walls of badass designs upon designs, examining each and every single one, imagining himself with them on. Suddenly, he faced the lady with a sharp grin as he excitedly gave her the design of his choice.
~
'There. My things are packed away and Scourge's surprise is set. Now all I have to do is return to him.... I hope he's still there. It took me quite a while to unpack everything...' Zonic thought miserably as he exited the hotel room with the little map in hand. As Zonic walked away, he began imaging scenarios of how Scourge would react to his gift. With every scenario, his excitement grew until he couldn't contain it anymore. His walk soon turned to speed walking, then it turned into a jog. In the end, he started full on speeding along the route to the pub, his excitement fueling him, making him go faster than he usually could.
Arriving at 'The Psychic Sheepdog', Zonic entered, searching the sea of many faces for his beloved's. But he was nowhere to be found. So, Zonic went and checked in the gents, but he wasn't there either.
'Where is he?!' Thought Zonic in a panic as he began checking around the pub again, searching for his husband. But still he couldn't find him. So, he went to the barman who was cleaning a glass with a tired look on his face.
"Excuse me." Zonic piped up, grabbing his attention over the noise in the pub.
"How can I help you?" The barman sounded as tired as he looked.
"Have you seen a blue eyed, green hedgehog wearing red shades, grey camo cargo shorts and a black tank top with a flame design on come in here?"
"You mean like that?" He pointed over to the door of the pub which had just opened where Scourge came sauntering it, looking really pleased.
"That's him!" Zonic beamed at the man. Wasting no time at all, the zone cop made his way over to Scourge and pulled him into his arms with such force that both nearly toppled over. "You had me worried for a moment there! Where did you wander off to?"
"Oh, I just made a lil' stop before coming here. That's all." Reassured the blue eyed hedgehog, lightly patting his soulmate's back.
"A stop? Where?"
Scourge broke the hug and suddenly showed him his right upper arm where upon his arm... Was a big black letter 'Z' in a fancy font.
"You got a tattoo!?" Gasped Zonic, his eyes going wide in surprise as he gawped at it.
"Yeah! It cost me forty-five rings." He flexed his arm, showing off the tattoo some more. "Cool innit?"
Moving a little closer to inspect the tattoo, Zonic rubbed his muzzle in thought. "Indeed. May I ask, is that Z for... Zonic?" He bashfully asked.
Now the king was the bashful one as he murmured, "yeah. I got the idea for this off a TV show I saw where someone got their partner's initials tattooed on them, cuz the tattooist told them to choose something that meant a great deal to 'em. I can tell ya now, Zonzon. You mean a great deal to me."
Once more was Scourge pulled into Zonic's arms as the cop was overwhelmed by his sappy feelings again. A feeling which Scourge shared as he embraced Zonic back tightly, both feeling all the other wished to say in that loving embrace.
~
After exploring the town some more, the newlyweds returned to their hotel room. However, before Scourge entered the bedroom, Zonic rushed up behind him and clamped his hands over his eyes.
"Eh? Whatcha doing, Zon?"
"Just keep your eyes closed and walk into the bedroom." He released his husband, who kept his eyes shut with a puzzled look. "Okaaay then?" Taking a few careful steps into the bedroom, he stopped. "Now what?"
"Open your eyes." Came Zonic's soft answer, full of anticipation for what was to come.
Upon opening his eyes, Scourge was utterly gobsmacked when he saw something on top of the bedside table. "ZON, HOW THE HELL DID YOU MANAGE TO GET YOUR HANDS ON THE LIMITED EDITION TEN INCH REPLICA OF MOTORBIKE MIKE'S MOTORBIKE FROM BADASS BIKES N' CRAZY CARS!?" Picking up the collectable he looked it over, examining it closely in disbelief.
Greatly pleased with his reaction, Zonic casually replied, "I saw it inside the shop when I went in. As soon as I saw that motorbike, I instantly recognized it from your favourite TV show. So, I bought you it for your collection because I knew that you didn't have this piece."
Placing the replica down, Scourge grasped his husband's shoulders and began praising him profusely, "Zon, you're an absolute babe! I can't believe you got me that! Seriously, baby, you've really surprised me!" His praises stopped, his hyper attitude being replaced by a flirtatious one, "however will I thank you?"
Zonic felt the tension in the air and so turned on his flirtatious mode, firing back, "Oh, you don't have to thank me... Besides, I have something else for you."
Scourge moved his face closer to Zonic's, the romantic tension growing. "And what's that?"
The cop moved closer, so their noses were touching. "A promise. One I said I'd keep."
Realization dawned upon the blue eyed mobian. As much as he'd love to make his beloved breathless again, he didn't want to push him and so he stuttered out, "But you've already-"
A finger was pressed to his lips, silencing his protest. "Shh. I know. But still, I promised and besides, I want to. Do you?"
There Zonic went, teasing him again with his words! Scourge tutted before placing one hand on Zonic's chest and then pushed him forward so he went flopping back onto the bed with a cry of surprise. "Do I want to?" Scourge asked him with a look as if to say 'isn't it obvious?' because it was obvious. Zonic knew the answer already. He just wanted to wind Scourge up.
Trapping Zonic on the bed, Scourge leaned down to ghost his lips against his. "When don't I want to love you?"
Words were useless at this point. What Zonic wanted to say couldn't be spoken. So, they talked though their kisses from slow and soft, to passionate back to slow again with a steady rhythm. They held one another tightly, occasionally gripping one another's shoulders or stroking one another's quills, a most sacred act between closely bonded hedgehogs as only hedgehogs who had decided to love one another for life could touch certain parts of one another's quills.
They had truly reached the pinnacle of their love. It made a warm feeling burn away in their hearts, a burning sensation hotter than the sun. They truly had a special love... A love that was also an anomaly. But they didn't care. The rules of the multiverse wouldn't come between them. Nothing would. Nobody would.
Breaking the kiss, they gazed longingly into one another's eyes before Scourge shifted and laid his head upon his husband's bare chest (thanks to him unbuttoning his shirt) and listened to his heart as he snuggled up to him, feeling drowsy. Zonic cuddled him close to his chest, feeling drowsy himself. They laid like that for a while until Zonic fell to sleep.
Scourge carefully pulled himself out of his husband's embrace as he left to go and fetch himself a quick drink and a quick drink it was as his husband's warmth was calling him back. Scourge all but sprinted over and leapt into the air, crashing down beside his love... Then the bed crashed down to the floor with a mighty crack!
Quickly sitting up, Zonic looked at Scourge in horror. "How did the bed break!?"
"Uhh... I kinda... jumped onto it?"
"Oh, Scourge!" The cop was absolutely furious with him! Only for a few seconds though as he began laughing, laying back down as he shook his head. Scourge flopped down beside him, laughing too.
However, neither he nor Scourge were laughing the next day when they were charged for a new bed to be put in their room!
But the pair did manage to have a little chuckle over the situation thanks to Scourge's poor explanation of how the bed broke in the first place that nobody believed as "I just sat down on it then BAM! All the legs broke. I'm just as surprised as you are!" Was too ridiculous, but it was all he could come up with.
The entire situation was just another shenanigan in the life of Zonic the zone cop and Scourge the hedgehog.
