Chapter Text

20:00 The Evening After What The Mama Saw

When the papa found out he began to shout

And he started the investigation"

"It's against the law

It was against the law

What the mama saw

It was against the law"

The papa said, "Oy, if I get that boy

I'm gonna stick him in the house of detention"

Han Solo sat uncomfortably in the brig on Echo base, bored out of his skull and freezing his ass off. Somehow Dodonna seemed to have blamed Janson's streaking prank from last night on him, even though he had nothing to do with it. He had been otherwise engaged with the Princess during that incident.

Dodonna had been irate, escorting him personally to the brig and ordering two terrified rebels to haul Han off his own ship while Chewie roared in disgruntled rage. Han was tossed into the brig without a word as to the charge. That had been 12 hours ago!

As Han groaned in frustration at the latest injustice at the hands of that old bastard, Dodonna, he heard the door to the cell woosh open.

A dopey grin crossed the Captain's face. "Evenin' worship. Here to rescue me?" He drawled, slouching comfortably against the ice wall of the cell. Despite feigning total unconcern and comfort, he was trying not to fall off the bench from delight and shock that the Princess herself was here.

Leia removed the hood from her cloak and smiled at him. "Something like that. Come on, let's get you out of here."

"Ya know, usually when the prince rescues the damsel in distress, she gives him a kiss." Han lightly touched Leia's shoulder before he closed his eyes and pursed his lips expectantly.

"When the Princess does the rescuing, the dude in distress just feels grateful and expects nothing in return," Leia teased as she took his hand to pull him out of the cramped and dimly lit cell.

"Your fairytales are no fun, Princess," Han whispered dramatically, making Leia laugh unexpectedly. She quickly covered up her mouth to muffle the sound.

"So, did you break me outta here all by yourself?"

"I have accomplices," Leia replied mysteriously. "Come on, we need to leave."

"It's not like I'm anonymous, Dodonna is just gonna have me thrown back in here."

"Luke has taken care of that."

"The kid? He's growin' up on us Sweetheart," Han said proudly and Leia just rolled her eyes. But she was proud of Luke.

18:00 Echo Base (20 minutes earlier)

Whoa, in a couple of  hours days  they come and take me away
But the  Rogues press  let the story leak
And when the radical jedi priest
Come to get me released
We was all on the cover of the Rebel holofeed Newsweek

"Wes Janson and Han Solo did nothing wrong. They are to be released immediately," Luke Skywalker said calmly to General Jan Dodonna.

"Yes, released immediately."

"You will order Rogue Squadron and Princess Leia to go release them."

"Yes, you all are ordered to go release them. They did nothing wrong."

"Princess Leia and Han Solo were not engaging in unsavory behavior. They were planning a sensitive mission in her quarters so as not to be overheard."

"Yes, I knew she would never deign to fraternize inappropriately with that criminal."

Leia suppressed a snort while Luke's eyes lit with humor. She snuck a quick glance at the rest of the Rogues and glared at Hobbie, Celchu, and Antilles, who all began elbowing each other and whispering at her expense.

"Nothing happened, for kriff's sake," She responded sternly. "Planning a sensitive mission was not a euphemism."

"I love when she uses big words to talk dirty," Klivian whispered to Antilles.

"Guys, shut it. Let's get them out of here," Luke ordered before turning back to Dodonna.

"You will call the brig guard and inform him that we are to collect Janson and Solo from the brig on your order. You will then forget any of this happened. You had an unpleasant dream that Janson streaked through the base. You do not know why you are angry with Han and Leia. They did nothing wrong."

"They did nothing wrong," Dodonna agreed.

The Rogues and Leia hunched their shoulders to suppress their shocked laughter as they left Dodonna's quarters to head to the brig.

"So what do you call this nifty trick of yours, Luke?" Wedge asked enthusiastically.

"Jedi mind-trick," He said with a puffed up grin.

Leia broke off from the pilots to rescue her own rogue. She was absolutely delighted to act the part of a rebel’s rebel for once.

And I'm on my way
I don't know where I'm going
I'm on my way
I'm taking my time
But I don't know where
Goodbye to  Leia Rosie , the queen of EchoBase  Corona

General Jan Dodonna had never been so angry in his life. Not the hopeless rage he felt when the Death Star obliterated Alderaan with his dear friends on it, but the kind of astonished anger one feels when their teenage child does something so incredibly stupid one cannot possibly fathom such an incident occurring.

He wanted to murder Han Solo. He wanted to shake Princess Leia. He wanted to smack Janson's head. He just had these feelings of fury, but he didn't have the first clue why. It was on the edge of his memory. It must have all been a dream – Janson running naked through the halls of Echo Base. Captain Solo doing something or being somewhere he wasn't supposed to be. He had no idea why he wanted to shake the Princess, nor why he wanted to call her the Queen of Echo Base. And he kept whistling a tune about a mama in pajamas that he could have sworn he'd never heard before. Mon Mothma and General Rieekan had given him funny looks and he got the sense that the Princess was masking attempts to laugh at him. Perhaps he should get some sleep while he and Mon Mothma made the long hyperspace trip back to Home One.

He was very pleased to note that discipline on this base was clearly excellent. The high jinks and shenanigans he had drilled out of the rebels during their indoctrination and training had clearly stuck.

Notes:

Yeah, this is ridiculous. I know.

Me and Julio Down by the School Yard, by Paul Simon

"The mama pajama rolled out of bed
And she ran to the police station
When the papa found out he began to shout
And he started the investigation
It's against the law
It was against the law
What the mama saw
It was against the law
The mama looked down and spit on the ground
Every time my name gets mentioned
The papa said, "Oy, if I get that boy
I'm gonna stick him in the house of detention"

Whoa, in a couple of days they come and take me away
But the press let the story leak
And when the radical priest
Come to get me released
