Chapter Text

It’s been a year.

Akane, Ayame, and Kizuna were the first to leave. They moved to Towa City as planned, and called in weekly.

After them was Mitch, shortly followed by Kinji. Both of them seemed like they were guilt-ridden about their murders, and couldn’t stand to face the class.

Kakeru and Kanata were next, with Kakeru apparently proposing a month after moving out. After them came Teruya, Satsuki, Kiyoka, and Haru. Haru and Teruya got married, as did Satsuki and Kiyoka. Satsuki’s helping run Otori Mart, and Kiyoka and Haru both do military work.

Iroha and Hibiki decided to travel Japan together (while scamming people). Yuri, Kokoro, Kanade, and Syobai are all in Russia, presumably together. Shinji moved back in with his wife, and Yuuki moved in with them too since he’s Shinji’s son. Yoruko and Sora got an apartment near them, and apparently Yuuki alternates between them every week. (Yeah, Yuki’s stayed in contact with Yuuki. Weirdly, they have a lot in common.) Nikei and the real Mikado are together in a place called Akazora City (previously known as Aozora city, but it was changed to Akazora during the tragedy).

The last remaining people from Class 79—Rei, Mikako, Yamato, Tsurugi, Utsuro, and Yuki—stayed at the Kisaragi Foundation.

Hajime and Rei are publicly dating now, and Mikako and Emma are engaged. Utsuro has been able to admit that he does, in fact, have emotions. He’s even gotten better at expressing them. Yuki’s met more members of his system, as well.

…This feels nice.

This feels safe.

Today, Yuki, Yamato, Tsurugi, and Utsuro are going on a date at a fancy restaurant. Yuki has a feeling he knows what’s going to happen.

"Loves, are you ready?" Tsurugi calls into Yuki and Utsuro’s room.

Can we pleeeease roll up the sleeves? Utsuro begs.

This is supposed to be a fancy place. It’s, like, a cultural no to roll up our sleeves.

I’ll roll them down when we get there!

Then they’ll be wrinkled. You can roll them up on the way home.

Fine.

"Dear? Darling?" Tsurugi asks.

"We’re ready!" Yuki says, coming out. His outfit is pretty simple, a pale yellow suit with the Kisaragi Foundation’s logo stitched on a pocket, paired with a reddish-orange tie and dark red-brown leather shoes.

Oh fuck Tsurugi looks hot.

Sorry, sorry, sorry. Let him rephrase that: Tsurugi looks really fucking sexy.

His hairstyle is slightly reminiscent of back in the ballroom, but other than that not really. His suit is a deep blue color, also with the Foundation’s symbol on it. His tie is red as well, with a flowered pattern on it. And—holy fuck, is he wearing eyeshadow?

Yuki can’t contain himself—he jumps over and kisses Tsurugi. Tsurugi kisses him back for a moment, then pulls away.

"Yamato’s waiting for us," he says. Yuki sighs, and heads downstairs, where Yamato is indeed waiting by the door.

His suit, a midtoned purple, also has the Kisaragi Foundation’s symbol on it. His hair is done in a braid crown (he’s grown it our over the past year), and his tie is a coral-ish red color.

He looks so stunning. Yuki rushes forward, but at the last moment Utsuro pulls their head back to hug Yamato instead.

Ughh. Stupid dummy.

"You look good, Utsu," Yamato says. "Yuki too."

"Come on, let’s go," says Tsurugi. "Our reservation is in fifteen minutes, and it takes ten minutes to get there."

Once their food comes, they make light conversation. Discussing their siblings (with the exception of Tsurugi, who is an only child and can only listen), discussing their classmates, discussing their friends. The one thing they don’t talk about is work, since that’s one of their rules for dates. Yuki does most of the talking, as usual, but every now and then Utsuro jumps in. He even smiles a couple of times.

After dinner, they go to a nearby park.

"Haaahhh, that was so gooood," Yamato says, rubbing his stomach exaggeratedly. "I’m stuffed…"

"Augh, same," Yuki agrees. He leans his head on Yamato’s shoulder for a moment, appreciating his boyfriend’s warmth.

Then, when they approach a fountain, Tsurugi vends down on one knee.

Oh my G-d. Is he doing what I think he is?

I think so.

"Mekaru Yuki, Mekaru Utsuro, and Kisaragi Yamato," Tsurugi begins, averting eye contact as he always does when he’s flustered, "you three mean the world to me. I’ve been able to grow and change as a person with you by my sides, and I can’t imagine living my life without you."

Holyshitholyshitholyshit-

"That’s why I want to know…" he says, blinking quickly, face flushed, "…will you marry me?"

All four of them are silent for a moment, before Yamato immediately begins screaming. Yuki feels tears leak from his eyes, although whether it’s him, Utsuro, or both crying he can’t say.

"Yes," he whispers, "yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes. I— Yes!"

Yamato bends down and crushes Tsurugi with a hug, whispering something in Tsurugi’s ear that makes him even more flustered than he already was.

What do you think Mato said?

Sex joke.

Utsuro.

I don’t know.

So, that’s it.

That’s the story of Yuki survived a killing game and gained two and a half boyfriends (Utsuro doesn’t technically count as a boyfriend, but he’s definitely a life partner) in the process.

It was a hopeful ending after all.

Notes:

IM SO. EMOTIONAL ABOUT THESE FOUR. YUKI ESPECIALLY IS A CHARACTER THAT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME. HE’S SO IMPORTANT TO ME, AS A CHARACTER THAT I CAN PROJECT HARD ONTO AND A CHARACTER THAT HELPED ME FIGURE OUT THAT I MYSELF AM A SYSTEM. ANYWAY HAI I HOPE U ENJOYED THIS FIC! IM GONNA BE WRITING MORE IN THE SERIES EHEHE BECAUSE REINCARNATION APPLE VERSE IS MY FAVORITE VERSE (<- delusional about canon)
