Chapter Text

It was time. Miles had just woken up from sleeping, and he was more excited than ever. He put his clothes on hurriedly and looked at the time. It was 11AM. Dang, did I really sleep for that long?

Nonetheless, Miles grabbed the bouquet of yarrows and ran out his door. “Miles, what’s happening?” Miles turned over his shoulder to see his dad staring at him. “Who’s that for?” He asked, gesturing towards the bouquet. “Oh, um, this is for a friend of mine! Yep! It’s, um- their birthday today, and I wanted to get them a gift!”

Jefferson sighed and said, “Don’t tell me this is for that ‘Gwen’ girl…”

Miles laughed slightly, “No, this is for someone else, actually.” Of course, he wasn’t going to tell his dad this someone was a punk anarchist that killed the president, so he had to roll with this.

“Well, you go have fun with that while you’re still young, I’ve got work to do.” Jefferson brushed past Miles to the front door. “Bye, Miles. I love you.”

“Bye, Dad!” Miles sighed in relief, then went to his room to grab the homemade watch Hobie had gotten him. He swiftly put on his suit and then put his regular clothes into his backpack. Miles went into the kitchen and wrapped two donuts in a paper towel for later consumption. Finally, he ran back to his room and swung outside to find a nearby rooftop to visit Hobie.

He settled for a nice faraway roof and opened the portal to Earth-138. He happily bounced a bit before going into the portal. He swung around all over the place and he held onto the flowers and donuts extra tight. Still, a lot of the petals had flown out.

When he reached Earth-138, he was shocked at how different it was compared to his Earth. He had landed on a roof, similar to the one he came here on, and he saw a lot going on. For starters, the whole place was covered in this newspaper look, and there was chaos everywhere. He could hear loud music coming from multiple directions, people yelling, and cars honking. Sure, his New York was loud, but this was deafening.

This was when Miles realized he’s never been here before, which means he doesn’t know where Hobie lived.

Miles groaned and pulled out his phone to text Gwen.

Miles: hey gwen
Miles: can u help me find hobie’s place
Miles: im tryna visit him but i have no clue where im at

Gwen: omg
Gwen: fine

Miles: thx 🙏

Miles carefully followed the directions Gwen had given him, and he ended up at an apartment complex trying to find out which apartment was Hobie’s. Gwen had told him where the complex was, but not which room. He tried messaging her, but he lost signal. So, here he was, looking like an idiot trying to decide which door to knock on.

He went with one on the far top left, but no one answered. So he tried the next one. Also no answer. Miles groaned and decided to start from the bottom. He knocked on the door and waited patiently. To his surprise, he heard someone walking up to the door. When it opened, he was met with a middle-aged woman with brown greying hair staring back at him. “Listen, kid, I’m not interested in joining your dress-up club. Go ask someone else.” Before she could shut the door, Miles shouted, “Wait!”

The woman grimaced and opened the door again. “Listen, ma’am. I’m trying to find one of my friends, but I don’t know what apartment is his. Do you know someone named Hobie Brown?” The woman chuckled. “Yeah, I do. He’s my neighbor. He always blasts loud music to the point where I can’t sleep. Pain in the ass.” Miles awkwardly chuckled with her, wiggling his fingers.

“Well, uh- thanks, madam!” Miles uttered. “Don’t call me that.” Then, she shut the door in his face.

Well, that was something! Miles stepped next door. Well, no turning back now. He banged on the door, nervously awaiting an answer.

“Who’s there?”

Miles heard Hobie’s deep British accent come from the other side of the door. “Uh, it’s me! Miles?”

Miles bit his lip, waiting for Hobie’s response.

Then, he saw Hobie peek his head out the door, grinning when he saw Miles. “Miles! My guy! How’s it going?” Hobie wrapped his arm around Miles, pulling him into a side hug. Miles giggled at the sudden touch and replied, “I’m pretty good, what about you?” Hobie chuckled, “I’m doing great! Here, come on in!”

Hobie led Miles into his apartment, and Miles was shocked at how little was in there. They stepped into what looked like the living room, which had a couch with some blankets and pillows on it and a long wooden table in front of that. On the walls, he saw Hobie’s guitar hanging with some Polaroids he couldn’t quite make out. There was an additional desk next to the couch that had some Dr. Pepper bottles on it. Across the entrance, he saw there was a small hallway with three doors.

“Oi, what’re those flowers for, mate?” Miles snapped back into reality when Hobie spoke. “Oh, um, funny story…these are for you!” Miles handed Hobie the bouquet and laughed softly.

Hobie grabbed the bouquet and examined it with a smirk. He then looked back at Miles and asked, “You got these for me?” Miles slowly nodded and started playing with his fingers. “Yeah, I just thought you might like them.”

Hobie scoffed. “You thought I wouldn’t? I bloody love them! What’re they called?”

Miles couldn’t help but grin. “They’re called yarrows!” Hobie smiled back at Miles and walked over to the small hallway. He opened the third door and pulled out a small vase. “This’ll do the trick.” He poured some water from a Dr. Pepper can and placed the bouquet in it.

Miles beamed at the vase. Hobie really liked his gift that much? He 100% thought Hobie would just pretend to like it, then throw it away later on. “So, what do you wanna do now, mate?” Miles got the paper towel full of the donuts, then placed them on the wooden table. “I got us donuts!”

Hobie smirked and sat down on the couch, grabbing the chocolate one. “Man, you’re really the best.” Miles looked over at Hobie and felt like his whole body was burning. He smiled softly and sat down on the couch with him.

Miles started fidgeting with his hands and took off his mask to grab a donut. They both sat in comfortable silence for a while until Hobie looked over at Miles and asked, “Wanna go swinging?”

Miles looked up at Hobie, surprised about the sudden invitation. “Yeah! That’d be great, dude!” Hobie chuckled and stood up to get his suit. Miles looked away, squirming a bit at the thought of swinging around the city with Hobie.

“Alright, love, let’s get going.” Miles blushed at the nickname then put his mask on, following Hobie out the door.

—----------------

They had swung around for quite some time before they finally settled down on a building to catch their breath.

“So, is there any reason in particular you got me those flowers?” Hobie looked over at Miles, awaiting an answer.

“Not really, I was just thinking about you and thought it might be cool if I got you some.” Miles started shaking his hands around and awkwardly smiled at Hobie.

“Oh yeah? You were thinking about me?” Hobie turned pink and started scooting closer to Miles.

Holy shit. “Uh, yeah,” Miles started shaking his legs, “I was.” Hobie smirked and scooted even closer, making him and Miles touch. Miles felt like he was going to explode at any moment.

“Do you like thinking about me?” Hobie asked, keeping his gaze on Miles’ lips.

“Yeah…” Miles slowly wrapped his arms around Hobie’s neck and leaned in for the kiss, but before it could happen, Hobie suddenly backed away, wide-eyed.

He turned away and pushed Miles’ arms off of him, whispering what seemed to be, “Fuck, oh fuck.”

Hobie stood up and looked back at Miles worryingly, before saying, “I gotta go, mate. Bye.” And with that, Hobie swung away, leaving Miles behind, and very confused.
