Chapter Text
Wolfwood,
It’s strange to think that I’m writing to a dead man right now. I will admit, you made things interesting as we traveled together. I don’t think I realized until too late that I cared.
When Brad told us that you’d left on an extremely long journey, Milly and I just knew . You made her cry, you utter big-hearted dolt (and don’t you dare disagree with me; I’ve seen the way you’ve interacted around children during our travels; you’re definitely a soft older brother).
Dammit you promised you would stay out of trouble, that we’d see each other again soon after we parted ways from Macca. Making a promise means that you keep it , dumbass, or did you lose all of your remaining brain cells hanging around Vash? You know what, you probably did considering the fact you can’t remember simple, basic vocabulary.
It’s just- it’s been so… difficult. Vash hasn’t been the same without you, Wolfwood. Nobody has. No one’s admitted it yet, but it’s as though a thick shroud of grief hangs over us as we work: we miss you so much.
I don’t exactly know how much time we have left, considering the fact that we’re in the endgame now. Anything could happen… It’s terrifying.
This is getting a little emotional for me, so I’m going to switch gears and close off this letter. Wherever you are right now, please please please don’t cause any chaos. I am not within my power to salvage any property. Literally.
Take care for me, would you?
Your friend,
Meryl
To Mr. Priest Mr. Wolfwood Mr. Gossip Buddy my friend Wolfwood,
Please don’t mind the blotches on this letter :/
I don’t think I’m doing a very good job of controlling my emotions while writing this, which is why the letter might appear slightly messy, but it should still be relatively legible for you!
…I guess this is where we say goodbye, isn’t it? I know that Brad wasn’t telling the truth. That you weren’t going for a long journey- I almost wanted to believe it though. And I think I almost did. If it weren’t for the utter heartbreak I could see in Vash’s eyes…
This feels awfully familiar to the first time I saw you die when we were trying to save Meryl. Except this time, you’re not coming back.
Me, Vash, Meryl, Brad, even that new person Livio: we all miss you. It feels weird without you here, and I don’t like it. I want you back.
I liked the time we all spent together. I just want to go back to those days, where the four of us were just so happy together.
I know that you probably won’t feel this, but I’m sending you the biggest hugs to wherever you are right now. That way, you won’t be alone.
Goodbye Wolfwood.
Your friend,
Milly
Nico,
I guess in some ways this is my final farewell to you. I'm writing this letter to you because it will give me the peace of mind to know that even the tiniest part of me was able to accompany you to the grave.
Sadly, not deliverable by the Kuroneko Delivery Service, but she lives rent-free in all of our hearts. Am I using humor to deflect and cope? Yes. Do I care? Absolutely not. Deal with it. Authentic me and everything. It’s not like you’re gonna be able to-
Gods (hehe I guess the church is haunting you in death as well… sorry bad joke; not gonna lie, I sort of expected you to appear randomly behind me and whack me upside the head for “using the Lord’s name in vain” even though you are an utter hypocrite for calling me out like that)... and now I’m rambling
Sorry that parenthetical became way too long, I’m rewriting the sentence below (and now you’re probably out there somewhere making fun of me for my so-called “buffoonery” but anyways-).
There were so many things that weren’t said. Or things that I wish I had said.
We’ve come such a long way together, and it just feel so wrong to just
Leave you here.
I don't want to leave you
I can't
Please come back
I think the last thing I expected after traveling this planet for 150 years was to find my other half. My soulmate.
I don’t know how I’m gonna be able to do this without you, Wolfwood.
You’re my closest friend. My partner. A piece of my heart disappeared when you died, and I don’t think I’ll find that piece ever again.
Some things just aren't meant to be, are they?
I wish I could write to you forever and ever, but I have to go now. My brother… he- we’re in the endgame. There isn’t much I can promise you at this point, but I do promise you this. I will not let your legacy be torn to shreds. Livio and the orphanage will stay safe. I’ll make sure of it. I won’t let your sacrifice go into vain.
I know that we’ll see each other again. It’s only a matter of time, is it not?
I love you.
Yours forever,
Vash
