Chapter Text

Miles

Miles woke up to the sound of a text pinging his phone. A quick glance told him it was Mj. Sitting up Miles quickly replied.

     Ángel: Goodmorning!

     Spidey: Morning Sunshine!

     Spidey: How’d u sleep?

     Ángel: Alright.

     Ángel: u?

Spidey: as well as one can in NY lol

Ángel: Yeah, it can be pretty noisy down in the sewers sometimes.

     Spidey: I can imagine.

Miles smiled. He loved early morning texts with Mj. It was always the best way to start his day. He stretched as he stood up. He continued to answer texts as he walked to the bathroom. Mj had to go make breakfast for their brothers, and Miles had to take a shower.

It was friday. But from the notable lack of voices Miles had heard , his parents were at work. Pulling on clean clothes, Miles walked to the kitchen to pour himself a bowl of cereal. A nervous pit was beginning to form in his gut, but Miles ignored it. He had a plan for today, but the thought of it kept making him feel nauseous.

He wanted to plan a special night out with Mj. Something like a date almost. But it would be hard, they couldn’t go out until late since they had to sneak out after their brothers fell asleep.

But Miles wouldn’t let anything stand in the way, not this time. He still had to wait several hours, but it would be worth it. Plus, he could work on a special gift for Mj. The first thing to do was head down to Aunt May’s.

Taking the elevator down to the old Spiderman Lair, Miles quickly headed over to the old Spiderman suits. None of them really looked right through. They were all too big for Mj’s small frame. He scanned them all for the third time now. This was gonna be harder than he thought.

“What are you looking for?” Aunt May had come down the elevator and snuck up behind him.

     “New suit.” Miles said.

“Something wrong with the current one?” she asked.

“It's… not for me.” Miles said hesitantly.

“Oh? Is there another Spider in town?” Aunt May looked mischievous.

“Not exactly. But, a… friend has been helping me on a few missions, and I wanted to get them a suit to help them hide their identity better.”

     “And what's their name?”

“They go by Mj.” Saying that seemed to get Aunt May in a very happy mood.

“Over here.” She pressed a button on the desk. Several new suits slide out of the ground. Each one had clearly been designed for a much smaller person. One in particular caught Miles’ eye. It was red and blue like the others, but it had a hood and pho gloves and boots.

With just a quick recoloring, it would be perfect for Mj.

“I’ll leave you to your art project then.” Aunt May waved goodbye as Miles pulled out the supplies he'd need to perfect it.

“So… any reason in particular you wanted to meet up earlier than normal, Spider Boy?” Mj asked as they balanced themself on the railing of a bridge they were crossing.

“Not really.” Miles said, holding Mj’s hand to keep them  steady as they walked. He was gonna try and lead them over to a nearby pizza place. It wouldn’t be as good as Run of the Mill, but he didn’t have any yokai money, and he wanted to pay this time.

Mj hopped down from the railing, but continued to hold Miles’ hand as they walked. When they were just a street away from the place, Miles hears a ringing. It's distant, but still there. Miles stops in place for a moment to pull out his radio scanner. Pushing in one of the head phones in his ear and started searching.

Mj puts in the other one and listens with him. “Another bank robbery near queens.” “We have the place surrounded, but they have a hostage.” “Any sign of the Hero?”

That was all they needed to hear. In an instant they were halfway across town. Miles already in his spider gear, and Mj in what little of a disguise he could pull off. Miles decides that there's no time like the present. “Mj, wait.” he pulled out the meticulously wrapped gift.

“This really isn’t the time.” Mj says.

“Just open it.” Miles says, thrusting it into their hands.

Hesitantly, Mj pulls off the wrapping paper to reveal the suit that Miles had worked so hard on. It was black like his, but instead of red webbing patterns, orange paint strokes covered almost every part of the suit. Except for the hood and pho gloves and boots.

In a quick flash the clothes Mj had on swapped with the suit in his hands. They looked perfect on them. They spun around to get the feel of the new material. They bounced slightly, a happy stim Miles saw them doing often. It always made him happy too.

“Miles, I love it!” They said, their voice full of joy.

“It looks good on you.” Miles was happy Mj liked it so much. He hadn’t spent three hours on it for nothing after all.

“We need to hurry!” Mj said, stuffing their clothes into their duffle bag and dropping it to the side.

They continued to run the rest of the way to the bank, slipping inside the same way as last time. Miles led the way through the dark halls of the bank until they reached the lobby. Five men were prowling around, each holding one of the strange guns. And hidden in the furthest corner from the entrance were two small girls. The older one curled protectively around the younger one.

“We gotta plan?” Mj whispered. Miles thought for a moment. Planning wasn’t one of his strong suits. He needed to work on that. He glanced around the room for a minute, looking for anything that might help him come up with something decent. Something that would at least help them get the kids out of there.

“You think you can get the kids outside to the police while I distract the goons?” Miles said, it didn’t have to be long, just long enough for Mj to get the kids out and then back in to help him.

“Of course I know I can, but, will you be okay?” Mj asked. Of course they'd ask if he’d be okay. Honestly he didn’t know if he would be. Just one hit from one of those guns last time had hurt bad enough. But he nodded anyway. Now wasn't the time to be getting cold feet, now was the time for action.

“I’ll be fine. You take care of the kids.” Miles said, and even he could hear how cheesy that line sounded. It didn’t matter. In the same fluid motion they both leaped into action. Miles leapt onto the counter and Mj dashed behind it towards the kids. “Hey! What are a load of trolls like you doing at a bank like this? You know goblins run the bank, right?” Miles yelled, bringing in all the attention from the large men.

“It's Spiderman! What do we do boss?” one of the men spoke to the largest one.

“We kill him! What do you think those guns are for!?” The one in charge yelled. He aimed at Miles and blasted at him. These weapons seemed to be much more powerful than the last. Miles dodged and a shot went straight through where he had been standing on the counter. If he had been just a moment too late, his legs would’ve been shattered, rendering him useless.

“Hey!” one of the men had spotted Mj with the girls, who seemed hesitant to follow him. They took aim and fired at them, but Mj threw up a shield without a moment to spare. Even with their mask on, Miles could tell it took a lot out of Mj to resist that attack. They needed to put an end to this, and soon, or else someone was gonna get hurt. Not on my watch! Miles snagged two guns from separate men.

“Yoink!” Miles threw them up and over the counter before any of them had time to react. The fight continued, less than smoothly. Mj got the kids out through the door and to the police. Good. Miles continued to hold off the men. “So, why are a bunch of guys like you out robbing a bank like this?” he leapt out of the way of another blast. “Aw c’mon, don’t be that way!” Miles smiled under his mask.

“Not up to us which banks we go to, it's up to the main boss man.” one of the lackey’s yelled back.

“Quiet you idiot!” the man in charge yelled. So, there’s another pulling the strings to the puppet is there? Miles just barely had enough time to duck out of the way of a punch from another man and throw one of his own. The man that connected with his knuckles stumbled away in a dazed fashion, holding his nose to keep it from bleeding. Ooo, that's gonna hurt in the morning.

Dodging another attack from one of the men, Miles chanced a glance outside and spotted Mj and an officer running towards the door. A harsh crushing feeling suddenly took over the entirety of Miles' right leg. It felt like an elephant had sat on it and was refusing to move its fat ass so he could get up again. He must’ve been hit by one of the more powerful guns. At least now I know what I’m up against. He thought as he toppled to the ground, unable to hold himself up on his now broken leg.

Another man came running at Miles, his fist drawn back to punch him squarely in the face. Miles braced himself for the pain, unable to move from the spot he had fallen to, he flung up his hands to shield his face, squeezing his eyes shut, except it never landed. Miles opened his eyes again and saw Mj standing a little ways off with a chain clutched in each hand, holding the fist of Miles' attacker back.

The officer that had run in with Miles was standing off to the side, the other four criminals each on their knees with their hands behind their heads. The officer shifted his position over to glance at Miles and Mj, and Miles knew for sure that it was his father, no doubt about it.  Oh boy. He only hoped Mj and he could play things off until they could get away. A crash sounded next to the four men, the fifth had just been thrown over next to them by Mj.

With a quick ‘snap’ chains wrapped around each of their wrist. “Those’ll disappear once you’ve got real handcuffs on them… sir.” Mj said. Miles thought he heard some kind of tone to the edge of Mj’s voice but decided to ignore it as they ran over and quickly got to work on healing Miles’ leg. The soft orange glow over took Miles’ leg and the soft soothing feeling spread throughout his mussels.

“Excuse me, but who are you? I’ve seen you fighting along with Miles before, not in that costume though.” Officer Jefferson Davis was standing over the two of them now. He looked slightly annoyed, and he was looking at Mj. That wasn;t good. He’d just asked Mj for a name, but he didn’t have one he could tell him yet. Miles hadn’t thought something like this could happen on only their second mission.

“Call me… Sun Weaver sir.” Mj stood, having finished Miles' leg, and extended a hand to him. MIles stood up behind Mj, wary of what might happen next. He didn’t think his dad would attack, just like that, but he still felt like he had suddenly been thrown into a cage with a very hungry, and very angry lion. They needed to get out of there, and soon. Miles could see more officers making their way towards the doors.

“Good to meet you Sun Weaver. Glad to see we’ve got more people like you willing to fight for the greater good on these streets.” Jeff took Mj’s hand and shook it once and let it go.

“Sun, we should probably get going now.” Miles said, walking closer to the other two.

“Right you are!” Mj yelled suddenly, and in a flurry of movement, a giant flame over took the two and they vanished right out of the bank, as if they had never been there to begin with. And other than the tail tell spider webs left by Miles, and the glowing chains wrapped around the now prisoner's wrist, they might as well have never even existed inside that bank. Other than the fact that Mj had shaken hands with Jeff.

Kingpin.

“So, you expect me to believe that tall tail you’ve spun?” Kingpin stood with his back to the man across his desk. He looked out across the city that hid that damn spider. If he could just get some information on him. Someone close to him, a friend and family member. Even just someplace he goes most nights, something that he could call a home base. But so far, all the damn mercenaries he’d hired and bailed out of prison had gotten him nothing.

“But, I’m telling the truth! I don't know how he did it, but-”

“If-” Kingpin cut in, turning to face the man, his huge frame black any and all light, “-you don’t have sufficient evidence that what your saying is true, then you’d better grab your crew and leave. I have no need for scum like you.” Kingpin straightened his tie, and heard the man hurry out of the room behind him. What a waste. He turned back to face the window. Why bother lying about people flying about like some sort of magic show.

“Mr. Kingpin, sir!” a man out of breath burst into the room, “Sorry for bursting in, but I’ve just gotten some info on Spiderman!” Now that was the kind of information he was after. A dark smile spread across the crime boss’s face. He was finally getting somewhere.

“Leave it on my desk.” he said, not bothering to turn around. A few quick steps and the sound of rustling paper distinguished the man leaving the papers where he had been instructed before leaving. Only a moment before turning to face his desk. A new crisp yellow folder was sitting atop it. Across it in black ink and swooping handwriting was the words: “Spiderman Case.”

A quick flip through revealed a few unsolved mysteries surrounding the young hero. ‘How did he get his powers?’ and ‘Can these powers be replicated?’ were two that he’d kept close eye on for the past year now. But at the back was a new mystery. It was labeled: ‘Spiderman's sidekick.’ Now that was something he could use! That sidekick and his were bound to be close, maybe even romantically.

That was just the edge he needed! He began to read: as the latest attempt at finding the universal key inside one of the many banks around New York, Spiderman has once again been seen fighting alongside someone. Their name has been discovered only tonight however while talking to the Chief of police, Officer Jefferson Davis, calling himself: Sun Weaver. Not very much is known about them right now other than that he wore a black and orange suit, similar to Spiderman’s, and that he seems to have some other worldly powers. Instead of webs, Sun Weaver shoots burning hot chains and fire. These may be only two of many other powers.

Kingpin scanned over these words again and again. As if glued to the paper. This wasn’t the best help, but if the report was correct, then this would only have been, this, Sun Weaver’s second night fighting alongside Spiderman. They could continue to gather more needed information over time. And even if he didn’t get all the info he needed, well. They appeared tiny, even smaller than that brat Spiderman. It would be easy enough to take him if they got the chance.

Cj

The news reporter continued on about last night's latest bank robbery attempt. The robbers had been stopped by Spiderman and someone else. “Thats, right you heard me ladies and gentleman, heard from the Chief of police himself, Spiderman has a partner now! Someone to fight alongside him while protecting our dear city. And they’re going by the name Sun Weaver, absolutely remarkable!”

The reporter babaled on for fifteen minutes before Splinter switched the channel. Mikey walked in just as he did so. Cj didn’t know why, but something told him that he knew something about that Sun Weaver guy. “Goodnight papa.” Mikey was saying goodnight to Master Splinter. He walked away again as soon as he’d come. Something was nagging Cj in the back of his mind.

He remembered a story Master Michelangelo and Uncle Miles had told him. About a man who would stop at nothing to get his family back from death. He’d even gone so far as capturing a much younger and under trained Michelangelo. He thought he could use him to open a portal between worlds, or tear though the fabric in time, but he had resisted. He hadn’t gotten out unscathed, both mystic damage, and physical damage had taken their toll.

Cj knew that even right now, somewhere out there in New York, the man who had hurt his uncle so badly before Cacey himself had even been born, was out there, looking for a way to bring back his dead family, at any cost. The only thing that helped calm Cj at the moment was the fact that there was no way Kingpin even now of Michelangelo’s existence. It would have to be impossible. After all, he wasn’t allowed out by himself.

Miles

Miles face planted into his pillow. The date hadn’t gone entirely as planned. But the two did manage to grab pizza and milkshakes at the place Miles had been trying to get them to before the bank robbery. Mj seemed to enjoy themself. Eating pizza and drinking the milkshake while talking with miles about the night's adventures. Miles had walked them home and then gotten back to his room in his own home.’

It seemed dull without Mj. As if all the light in the world was coming from one place now, and that was Mj.
