Chapter Text

Where the hell is he? Kyley tried to find something to shuffle around in his locker to avoid facing the hall behind him. The trouble was, unlike Stan’s, his locker was neat, organized logically, and didn’t have anything decomposing in it (except maybe whatever the hell Stan stowed in there when he ran out of room). The only thing out of place was Stan’s Valentine’s day gift—a mini toolbox, to remind him of everything that changed since the locker room.

Kyley had been planning to get a gag gift for Stan—something to let the world know Valentine’s day was a silly commercial holiday. But the last few months had been sweeter than any other time in Kyley’s life. Kyley and Stan spent most of their time together at school and afterward, often with Kenny. Otherwise Kyley hung out with Stan’s neighbor Tolkien. Even Eric Cartman had come around to being a frenemy but weirdly invested in their relationship. Stan and Kyley were just too perfect together.

Kyley’s palms were sweating as he waited for Stan’s reaction to the gift. What if Stan thought it was lame? His stomach turned. Was this how Stan felt all the time?

“Dude, chill,” said Kenny, walking toward him as well as he could without slipping out of his skimpy pink Cupid toga. “Stan says he’ll be here soon, he just needed to put his guitar away.”

“Oh.” Kyley had assumed Stan would give him a free singing Valentine—considering they were actually dating, and Stan had spent the day singing love duets with his ex, promising a surprise at the end of the day. “No freebie for me?”

Wendell glared. “It’s your fault we needed to raise this much money to fix the gym locker room damage, no.”

“Now come on Wendell, don’t be jelly,” said Butters. “It’s not Kyley’s fault he has diabetes.”

"That is correct," lisped Scott Malkinson, always having a sixth sense about people discussing diabetes.

“Doing singing Valentines was exhausting," Wendell said with faux concern. "Stan’s probably not going to be up for much tonight.”

Kyley was about to say something along the lines of ‘at least Stan would want to spend the night with me’ when—

“Hey.” Stan was empty handed.

“Hey! You ready to go show me your surprise?”

“Um, actually, we don’t have to go anywhere…”

“Well, I got you something.” Kyley pulled out the toolbox and handed it to Stan, who was standing there with an unreadable look. “They’re tools, you know, cause last year.”

“Aw!” someone shouted in the hallway that was still full for some reason.

“You like it? Stan?”

Soft lips were on Kyley’s, and they didn’t pull away. The hall broke into applause.

“Aw!”

“It’s so cute!”

“Slip him the tongue!”

Breaking out of his shock, Kyley did, grabbing Stan by the waist.

“Oh my God!”

“Woo!”

Even Cartman mumbled something about Cupid Me and a broken clock being right twice a day, which he didn’t catch. Everything was a blur as the kiss continued.

“What seems to be goin’ on here, m’kay?” Mr. Mackey had popped his big head out of the door. “Stan, you overcame your anxiety!” Mr. Mackey clapped. “Congratulations! I’m proud of you, m’kay.”

A hand tugged them. Stan and Kyley finally pulled away, gasping.

“Now, you boys will have to come with me, PDA is against school rules for everyone, m’kay?”

“Well, Valentine’s day in detention is still better than last year.”

There was laughter, but Stan was just smiling.

“It’ll still be perfect as long as you’re there.”

Mr. Mackey had a small tear coming out his eye. “Well, you boys can have a little fun, as long as there’s no tomfoolery, m'kay?”

“Never,” they said together, then looked at each other and grinned.

Notes:

There you have it, a short and sweet ending to this story. I can't believe its over! This is by far the longest story I've ever written. All the kind and supportive comments really kept me going. Thank you to everyone who made it!

I'm going to do a separate mini story about them as adults later.
